It's good for a few episodes and then devolves into twists for the sake of twists drivel. Subversion of expectations meme shit.
The first episode is very good. I dropped it when it got ridiculous. Read the plot spoilers and was glad I dropped it.
Watch Stranger or Beyond Evil instead.

HOLY SHIT THAT'S THE SHOW I WAS TALKING ABOUT HERE

Is this an actually serious show? Because last time I tried watching a "dark, serious" Korean serial killer show Cinemaphile recommended one of the first scenes was some goofy shit where the cop slipped on a fricking banana peel or something, hit his head on the floor and then made a goofy face while the "dizzy" tweety bird sound effect from Looney Tunes played. What the frick.

For context one of the first scenes is a cop breaking up a dumb ass slapstick fight in a hair salon, he trips on a banana peel or whatever the frick and it's all fricking goofy and gay as hell. I hate you guys!

You got filtered by the first episode, which is fine, but it turned out to be a good show.
Stranger is still the best Korean TV I've seen, but I haven't watched a whole lot.

      > Download first episode of this show after seeing this thread
      > Grab some food and drinks to watch some kino
      > The first scene shows a kid slipping a mouse into the enclosure of a snake
      > The mouse has absolutely horrendous CGI
      > Well okay whatever
      > The mouse fricking WWE style holds the 100x larger snake and slams it
I'm done with this show and from trusting Cinemaphile threads again.

My pet peeve with kdramas is melodramatic directing and soundtracks. Stranger and Flower of Evil are fine shows otherwise but I can't stand when they play some blaring, loud music to tell the dummies watching that "THIS IS INTENSE" or "SINISTER THINGS ARE HAPPENING". I'm glad the style has changed in recent years. The Bequeathed was a recent crime kdrama that didn't have this problem. Mask Girl and Anna and The Glory didn't have this problem either although Glory contained some melodramatic scenes.

I dunno why it's Korean stuff specifically but for me it's when some shitty CGI monster shows up and completely takes away my interest kek
Gf was watching what I thought was a ww2 Japan/korea historical show
Then scene cuts to some shitty ass cgi monster and I just walked away kek

when will japan make a good tv show

        Anonymous

        Define "good". Or "TV show".
Japanese TV works differently from Western TV (broadly speaking).
The western equivalent of those cheaply produced J-drama series are daily soap operas. The western equivalent of Sentai is something along the lines of Dr. Who, Emergency Room, Tatort and such.
But all of it a bit more over the top. Think Kabuki.

I'm honestly surprised more countries don't make an serious effort to produce quality film. The amount of interest in korea their recent media has resulted in must be bringing it a lot of money and instantly making korea more relevant culturally.

It depends on what you have available in your country
SK government literally said, 15 years or so ago, that they were "thinking" on how to become an elite power/influential nation worldwide, and came to the conclusion that due to their extreme delay in reaching industrialization and technological advances (they were literally Africa-tier 100 years ago) their only shot was not at economical, industrial of military power, but soft power i.e exporting
culture i.e exporting kpop and kdramas

They did things like not show/not put in mainstream TV channels all of the super popular western TV shows to get more people to watch kdramas and then propagate them online internationally

They banned all sorts and forms of porn, so they could channel the only sexual release in the country into kpop

They have an entire ministry, the Ministry of Culture, made to vet and regulate products to be shopped internationally and show the country in an appealing/attractive way only

It's not that Spain can just make a TV show and make it magically become super popular in Spain and then spread it online when they have none of the infrastructure SK built up to be able to shill these things as well as they do
