DC Earth is the Somalia of the universe. A backwards tribal nightmare full of nonstop wars and chaos with thousands of superpowered people beating the shit out of each other almost daily. While a few of the scariest beings in existence hang out there fairly often. when the shit does spill out from it, it usually fricks over the rest of the universe and blows up other planets.

Marvel Earth is the Afghanistan of the universe. Smack dab in the center of a major hyperspace crossroads and all the big space empires want it as theirs, but everyone that tries taking it gets their shit pushed in. Including cosmics and abstracts. All the biggest terrorists with the highest bodycounts come from there. too damn many important players in space civilization come from there so it cannot be ignored either.

Usually most of these guys don't all operate on Earth at the same time

Some are stationed on Oa or with the GLC
    Jo was in Far Sector

Yeah, but why so many from 1 space sector.

And why so many selected from the same planet in that sector.

Doesn't each individual ring try to find the most courageous person at a given time in its sector?

Earth has more superheroes and supervillains than the rest of the universe combined and a decent number of them are planetary level threats or worse. Also, whenever there's a major crisis you can bet Earth's at the center of it. So yes, it really does need that many Lanterns.

Problem is that Earth has a lot of extremely powerful reality warpers on it, and they can manufacture more of them with their meager technology too.

Their backwards sticks and bones tech level still lets them make as many Captain Atoms, Firestorms, and Amazos as they want. Nothing stopping them but general want to do it.

Guardians probably know Earth is super duper special snowflake planet that the universe hinges on. It is also the detroit of the galaxy.
Tossing a few extra guards at it is logical. Besides Hal, Kyle, Guy, and John have each pulled off some miraculous wins for the corp. Why wouldn't they want as many of these prime lanterns around as possible?

There have been a couple Red Lanterns from Earth
Dex-Starr, Rankorr. Guy was temporarily a Red
And Supergirl was a Red as well but she's not from Earth

Jessica Cruz was a member of the Sinestro Corps last time we saw her but there was a bitt of a time skip between the end of Thorne's GL and Dark Crisis, so she might be a Green again

No wonder why the Green Lanterns are terrible at their job. They are short staffed, overworked, underpay, and have to the annual bullshit of the Oan Guardians doing something incredibly moronic that it threaten the universe... again.

        Anonymous

No wonder so many went and made their own corps. Being a gl is being abused.

I really wouldn't mind if they retconned "space sectors" to cover only the Milky Way, because making it cover the entire universe is completely moronic. The Milky Way already covers 100-400 billion stars, so you could bump up the number of lanterns per sector to like one or two hundred and it would still probably be understaffed.

          Anonymous

I feel like they did this in the cartoon, but yeah makes more sense.

Honestly even if they had ten thousand lanterns per sector it wouldn't be enough

You could probably argue the Guardians know of all the inhabited regions and prioritize which areas to focus on.
The Corp makes small comments from time to time about some areas being shitholes or quiet zones. And the rings have a large database of known planets.

It didn't work because MUH DEAD PARENTS and he had a Sinestro Corps ring for a second but that rejected him because he wore that GL ring for a brief time. And there was a time during Sinestro's comic in the New 52 when he brought in a lot of heroes as Sinestro Corps lanterns, including Superman, who I believe was losing his powers at that time. Also, the Guardians don't like giving rings to people that won't come to them whenever they call. They barely tolerate Hal and Guy.
