I finally made some close friends so last 4th I met up with them and got shit faced in a field, we had a roman candle war and when some people came out their houses yelling at us to stop shooting fireworks at 4am we lit them up with bottle rockets.
        Best day ever.

Lion King will definitely chicken out and change release dates. They'll blame the strike or late CGI work.

I haven't been 12 years old for 20 years, and even then I wouldn't have seen this knuckle dragging dreck. What's the excuse of a grown adult that would bother with this mind numbing tripe for a night out?

nostalgia and being so busy with work/family life that they can’t get super into media, hobby, etc to form a unique and nuanced taste in sed media

I don't know if you've noticed the past 20 years, but all the big film studios do is chase trends.

Barbenheimer was like Doom and Animal Crossing releasing on the same day.
They need to be themtically as opposite as possible.

Jesus Christ, I just remembered all those terrible forced crossover pictures being spammed all over Cinemaphile.

Japan did something similar with My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies. But it was treated like a World War II tribute instead of a fricking meme.

I mean barbie and opp were mid as frick movies with a legendary marketing scheme. If other movies tried that hard, any piece of shit would hit a billion dollars

Memes are free publicity. People will want to watch them just to be part of the meme

On the one hand, double features are an old format. They are fun, especially when well-paired. OTOH, Barbenheimer was manufactured but it worked. When Hollywood sees a success it will run out into the ground. Since they compete with each other, there is no real way for them to coordinate astroturfing double features.

It won't work with kid movies, kids can't even sit through the entirety of one of those disney remake movies, let alone two.
Back when Coco was in theaters parents were complaining because they showed this 20 minute long Olaf cartoon before it and their kids were getting restless halfway through the movie they actually went to see.

I'm sure this is intentional to feed the idea of competition between two large fanbases to force more engagement from both to stick it to the other studio!

But these are two sequels based on the most popular family franchises on the planet. The whole Barbenheimer was funny because of the contrasting nature of the films. And they were stand alone. These are just more shit that we’ve seen a million times for years.

I’d like to avoid both but so far the gru movie hasn’t been flooded with Black folk and trannies and my 7 year old likes those yellow things that talked in fricked up Italian
