Why is it so hard to find a good werewolf movie?

These monsters are horrifying yet so underused. And when they are it's usually done sloppily. The Howling was a terrible movie. That woman waited a full minute to watch that monster change.

What a good design werewolf looks like it's really subjetive, some people say a WW should super msucular beast like the one from Vanhelsing, other more classic fashion like the one from Haary potter and other said it should e straight up a wolf.

I say Dog Soldiers design is pretty good, not too skinny, not too beefy

      Underworld 2 nailed it perfectly.

Just big enough to think "Yeah this thing would tear a person apart with one swing' but just skinny enough you don't think it's trying to look like a bodybuilder.

    Here's the key
Find dudes who are like 5'2" and girls that are 4'11" to play the heroes. Then find guys that are 7 feet tall playing the werewolves. In full body makeup and effects, as well as good camera angles being utilized the difference in size would be magnificent and really add to the ambience of the film.
Having a 6'3" guy being scared of a 6'6" guy doesn't and hasn't worked. Having everyone scared of a green screen doesn't work either. Going back to more practical effects generates more real terror and lends better credit to the film.

You are a moron, a werewolf is not scary because he’s big, it’s because he’s super fast, super strong and is will just viciously and violently maul you.

Neanderthals are the original Europeans, Cro-Magnons were Black folk. This is more israeli subversion.

I want an autistically folklore faithful werewolf movie about people making deals with Satan for magic ointments and animal skins that let them turn into wolves, because being a werewolf was on the same level as witchcraft in medieval and early modern Europe. Make the werewolf plain evil and chaos.

I every now and then watch Elena’s transformation complications from Bitten for...no reason at all
A higher budget that? Yes please!

Can you talk more about that sort of werewolf? I’m trying to write something with that kind of person as the villain but I’m having a really hard time understanding the character and making their lines feel anything but stupid cheese

You might want to read this book. Covers a broad range of werewolf stories from all over Europe (and touches a bit on similar traditions in Africa). It should be up on libgen.

    >horrifying yet underused

TBQH i think they aren't all that horrifying, they are more a representation of uncontrollable urges and passion in general. That's why they are so often intertwined with love in media, I think it's fitting and I enjoy it everytime.

An actual werewolf horror would come off like that leprechaun horror movie
