    Because it's too conservative.

Ironically true, it stays far too safe, only attacking "acceptable targets" and fellating the woke establishment. It's afraid to transgress in any but the most socially acceptable ways. Not so much as an inappropriate nurse smooch.

because it's soulless and completely unnecessary. Animaniacs belongs to the 1990's only,it exhales the 1990's Zeitgeist. It doesn't belong to these awful and soulless times

To be fair, the original was unfunny, too, just in another way.

The way I see it, there's two kinds of anons in the board: anons who like Animaniacs, and anons who don't like Animaniacs. You're either with us, or you're against us. So which are you?!

These companies desperately want to mine the nostalgia of this era but they completely lack the faculties to do so. People can't write anymore. They can't draw anymore. They don't want to pay for expensive animation anymore. And the only thing people know how to do anymore is act offended.

Plotz was funnier. Every time she showed up I kept trying to figure out what her angle was, but I eventually just figured it was just some dyke animator's sketchbook fantasy.

No. Whenever I catch an episode of the original that I haven't seen before, it still manages to make me laugh. It's still legitimately funny to me as an adult.

This new one, I laughed at ONE joke the entire 1st season. One. (it was the Batman v. Superman jab)

No, it's not the characters that make the show funny, it was the people writing it. The new show has the old characters (the ones people liked, anyway). And it even has their voices. But the writing is baaaaaaad. Just awful.

The original having an adequate animation budget probably helps, too. Cartoony shows usually depend on funny drawings/animation for their humor.

I think it's funnier than the original.

But then I also think the new DuckTales, Powerpuff Girls, Rise of the TMNT, and Looney Tunes Show are better than the originals so apparently I have bad taste.

Are you a zoomer? legitimate question. Do you like digital animation more than traditional?

We don't watch cartoons/comedians to laugh at politics/current events anymore, we want to finally get a breath of fresh air from it for once. It's the last thing people want in this current environment.

I watch comedians who talk about politics and they're still funny. This show isn't. It's barely even political, it barely even feels like its trying to be funny most of the time.

took out all the good characters and just left pinky and the brain, why is WB so obsessed about pinnky and the brain?

  22. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Writing overall is a bigger issue than the jokes, especially the conclusions. Most of the Warners' shorts feel like they end abruptly, the punch at the end is weak, the story doesn't "wrap around" to the beginning, all the neat things that good stories are supposed to have. They don't feel satisfying or memorable as a result.
The Pinky and the Brain shorts are better in this regard, but they can't carry the entire show.

      Anonymous

Truth. All too often a Pinky and the Brain short will begin and I'm saying to myself, "Wait, was that really the end of the cartoon? Did they accidentally leave the end out?"

Despite what the writers try to say, it's obvious they never actually watched the original show and only have a cursory knowledge of it through memes. Almost every time they reference the original it's either a YT meme (nations of the world) or is just flat out incorrect (Chicken Boo being the least liked Animaniac). It's the exact same issue with the Rescue Rangers movie; neither teams of writers actually gave a shit about their source material and used the IPs to churn out low effort garbage.

animaniacs has a diverse cast for different segments, is what made every episode feel fresh everytime. the reboot removes 90% of it leaving the siblings and the rats which ironically becomes less diverse in terms of cast and for writing episodes that could work for others and/or have a break from one character to watch another not to mention crossovers to give a few twists.

is a reboot written by people who shown to never watched the original and is only used to soapbox their opinions just lile hwo writers use Lisa Simpson to speak om behalf of the new simpsons writers

Isn't the show written by Ren & Stimpy fans? The Ren & Stimpy guy was notorious for shitting on Animaniacs back in the day. No doubt that rubbed off on his followers.

This half-tweened half-hand-drawn style was probably the best they could do with the budget they had but it's so distracting because if I'm looking at the characters I expect them to move like they did before.

Too many women writers. I know it's not cool to say but women are generally not funny. They can write Care Bears. Hell, they can even write X-Men. But they should not be writing stuff meant to make you laugh. (yes I'm aware Sherri Stoner is hilarious, she's a diamond in the rough)

Animaniacs was never funny. It's a pretend comedy. It is purely made to stimulate your eyes and nothing more.

I wouldn't say it's unfunny but its a different style of humor than the original despite its positioning as a continuation of the original show. It's more focused on dialogue (a trend that was already showing up in the later seasons of AM1993, satire of the modern world, and modern pop culture references. It's not like there weren't modern satire and pop culture references in AM1993 and the P&tB spinoff but the driving force of comedy (at least initially) was more on slapstick and pop culture references that were already decades old (a lot of them particularly referencing stuff from the 1950s and 1960s).

I will say I'm biased towards the older shows but I do believe the reboot has its own merits (even if I believe it should've been a full continuity reboot than a continuation).
