im only halfway throught the third season but couldnt help notice that season 2 is usually ranked dead last.
Dont get this at all, i really digged expanding the topic of urban decline onto the trade unions, also they still included drug crime. Nice way of branching out while keeping the overall theme, also the setting allowed for some fun interactions too imo, be it the banter along different heritages.
Is it really that valid to be ranked last or just TV critics crying due to less Idris Elba screen time?

Oppression narrative not allowed to include white working class. Simple as. It's easily the best or second best season but brainlets want gangsters
Season 2 was the worst and it's not even close due to bad directing making non-believable ccharacters. Iggy was cartoon character right out of topcat. Everyone was too emotional and over-acting all the time so it lost that slice of life feel. Good setting, good casting, but bad bad terrible directing.
Its the same thing that made true detective season 2 feel so much worse than the first
agree to a certain extent on some over-acting but it still worked well for me. Part of what you are criticizing seemed to be carried hard by the authentic atmosphere they created around the union guys.
Iggy was a stupid tool and could ahve def. toned it down a notch yet still captured the tragic unavoidable outcome of the never do well soon with a dad thats involved in shady dealings. Same with AJ Soprano or Jackie Jr. You can preach the straight way through college while earning through crime but that only works if your kid is smart enough, otherwise their path would be working retail at walmart and that obviously cant compete with fast money through OC.
People don't like to be reminded that the American dream is dead, sold piece by piece because nobody wants to get up and do something about it.
Because they heard other people ranked it last.
s2 sticks out as the most different when compared to the rest of them.
in my opinion weakest season is s4. there isnt even a wiretap going on in it
season 5 is usually lower ranked am0ong fans, but i dont think it is that bad at all. just lest serious. the scenes between mcnutty and everyone who knows what he did are hilarious
It's the best season and arguably the only great season. People get bored if there's no ooga boogas on screen because people are fricking idiots. The key to life is to be the greek
any other good shows or movies that depict the union decline/ blue collar class slowly evaporating?
Preferably not ones about the big Ford/GM factories but rather smaller but very identity creating settings like the one here?
Im not even from the states but that season and its depiction of the union traditions versus brutal reality moving on without them mesmerized me, almost chose to rewatch the season straight away instead of continuing with s3.
maybe Out of the Furnace and Holler. Wouldn't say they're super realistic and kind of lean into poverty porn.
will check those out, ty.
currently fighting through it, s2 kind of gave me too many expectations, so far s3 doesnt seem to hold up, unless theres some major plottwist coming my way.
The other seasons are escapism, like going to the zoo, while S2 hits too close to home
It's over for the little guy.
sopranos always felt too hilarious and detached from everyday life (organised crime) to drive this thought home, while this show hit like a fricking truck with that season. Sopranos is still the best show ever made, but id dare rank this season up there with it almost.
i found it annoying when i first watched it - but i still enjoyed it
nicky and ziggy are annoying for different reasons
I couldn't even finish s3 it's so shit compared to s2
One of the realest seasons of The Wire. I think some people found it boring
Isn't that the season where the BET version is super condensed because it's only the black storylines?
Anti-polish sentiment
What really hits hard is seeing Johnny Fifty homeless in the fifth season.
I don't know. To me, it's the best season, followed by season 1. S4, if anything, is INSANELY overrated.
season 2 best season just because of her. she was my first female crush. look at her she is so cute.
>McNulty gets together when he stops fricking up his life at the end of season 3
>spends the 4th season just being happy with her
>then they pull him back in and everything gets ruined
Man, I wish it hadn't happened like that. I feel like the 5th season was just the weakest shit ever.
yea there was no reason for it to fall apart either. his life wasn't shit anymore and their wire tap was in a better position. Personally I blame Bunk. Bunk or Dunlop.
IIRC, it was because Bodie's death hit him hard and he wanted to bring down Marlo. Bodie's death had an impact on him because Bodie was killed for being seen with McNulty at the station.
There was some quality boob honking iirc as well.
did anything else happen?
amazing how firm they are for that size and her body fat %.
always found that scene super hot where McNulty is having one for the road with his ex-wife, no honk there tho
It broke up the momentum of the first season after it just started getting good after a mediocre start. The entire show was poorly run and produced. It only had good episodes out of sheer luck and israelites wanting to humanize criminals.
>why is season 2 of the wire usually ranked last or second last?
Ziggy is fricking annoying especially on the first watch, the Barksdale crew is pushed aside for the most part and the whole season is a very slow burn with a shitton of new characters, including the Greeks. Jimmy, a fan favorite, is gone from homicide and goes on his own little adventure. Unions, politics and container ports are too fricking real for the average Joe, who would much rather see ghetto nigs killing each other over real estate.
So there's that. It is also the season that profits the most from repeated viewings, which means that Season 2 is the one that seperates avid watchers of the show from the casual audience. It is basically the perfect filter. Personally I love the season for its comfy winter setting, the dock scenes and the feud between Sobotka and Valchek. McNulty vs Rawls is fun. Horse and Frank have good chemistry. Ziggy grows on you with repeated viewings. He's still irritating, but you get a better understanding why he behaves that way.
The first series was applauded for its focus on blacks, on both sides of the law
Shifting to the suffocation of blue-collar labour was too alien for champaigne-supping tv critics
because people are moronic
Season 2 is probably the best. I've watched the show 5 times at least maybe more. I'm gonna buy some Jameson tomorrow and get drunk.
Wrong pic
>tfw you're ziggy, AJ and dutch
> lesbianca
