The color green is coveted in the future because forests and natural plants are pretty rare due to massive deforestation to support human population that is in the hundreds of billions. When they say that something is green, they mean it's something great and rare.
anyone else surprised they never made a sequel to fifth element? there was so much stuff they could have explored in that universe, both within the context of the existing story elements as well as the outer world they set up. so many creatively empty movies got revisited but the world of fifth element never was. I dont get it
I'm still hoping it happens since a clone of Leelou Dallas multipass has been created, but it might not be possible to have the same director after Valerian flopped.
>I'm still hoping it happens
it's been more than two decades. the window for a sequel or continuation is long passed. if any studio ever buys the rights and revisits it, it'll just be a reboot with black actors
>anyone else surprised they never made a sequel to fifth element?
No. I was going through puberty at the time and a film buff so I as more conscious of the discourse. While it was certainly a financial success and in a sense a no brainer for a sequel, there was a lot of talk about it being a "star wars rip off" and other such nonsense. It was also a bit too far ahead on some trends that weren't really normalized until The Matrix. Part of the resentment you see from older people on this board and others is due to us watching the masses reject shit like The Fifth Element and then suddenly embrace it as a masterpiece like a decade later. And it's not because LE NEW GENERATION OF FANS or any bullshit like that. It's that people were simply cowards and did not speak up when the liked something that others were critical of. And you don't need to look too far to find evidence of that still going on en masse.
It's all largely superficial but we are talking blockbusters. It wasn't cool when Leeloo would do a Bruce Lee reference but it was cool when Neo did. The truth is it was bad ass in both instances and bleeding edge but that plus stuff that people found off putting to later on celebrate like the Diva scene just hadn't really been done in live action.
I love The 5th Element but let's be honest, the Matrix had the impact it had because in terms of execution and story it dunks on the former superhard.
But what most people miss about Besson's movie is that it lifts a lot from French and European sci-fi comics like Moebius, which were normally pretty weird and often straight up absurdist. A sensitivity that even people in Europe may struggle with as sci-fi has always been dominated by Americans for budgetary reasons, let alone the actual American audience who most likely were never exposed to this stuff at the time.
people like the fifth element because its fun and besson knew how balance the movie taking itself seriously and when not to

That post said that people were ashamed of liking it for retarded things like the Bruce Lee thing that the Matrix did too. But that's like comparing Labyrinth or another cult fantasy to Lotr, the simple reason why was more influential than the other is that it's an objectively better movie.
I think the execution of The Fifth Element is superior to Matrix because it does feel like those European sci-fi comics, complete with Bruce Willis’s mugging face. Its perfectly captured from score to emoting to dialogue pacing.
I read the novelisation. It was fucking weird. The reason new york is covered in fog is because they just dump their garbage out the window like blacks on train and the skyscrapers constantly rearrange themselves by how rich you are.
The pacing is what is so great about this movie,
There’s always something happening, it doesn’t drag on, it doesn’t focus too long on the action with drawn out gunfights that will get boring.
I’ve had friends who aren’t interested in sci fi watch it and love it.
The delivery of the exposition setup to let you know what’s going on with 3 seperate parties having 3 seperate conversations.
The clothing and costume styles are exciting and interesting. With a thought to how some things in the future might look, the future McDonald’s drive through is a familiar thing everyone of this age knows.
You could, in a sense make the exact same movie, (changing a few small things like the technology for growing a human) in modern day and people would understand it.
>Ex military Cab driver with no points left on his license gets pulled over after helping a weird lady who fell out of a skyscraper and into his cab. >he runs from police and hides in the ghetto, she says she needs a priest so he goes and drops her off at this weird cult
Actually yeah I’d like to see it just because i think it could be neat.
Yes, it doesn't waste my time and every moment has something interesting. The mark of a good director/editor. See also Verhoeven's trio of sci-fi blockbusters or Demolition Man.
>boring emotionless muscle head protagonist >cringe slutty dressed mary sue romantic interest >loud and annoying weird looking gay black side kick >Gary Oldman playing Gary Oldman's alter ego #15 as the villain >Bilbo Baggins
why did Boomers love this movie so much?
CORBIN DALLAS
i don't remember anything green about it
COOOORBIN OH MY GOD COOORBIN EEEEEEEEE!!!!
AAALLL NIGHTT LOOONG ALLL NIIIGHT LOOONG
I don't remember seeing the color green at any point in the movie, was the entire thing filmed with greenscreens or something
they used blue for that film
Ruby Rhod flying the e-boita Express.
>who’sready to FUCK SOME KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDS!?
The color green is coveted in the future because forests and natural plants are pretty rare due to massive deforestation to support human population that is in the hundreds of billions. When they say that something is green, they mean it's something great and rare.
How did they get a black man in 90s in to act and dress like this
Same thing they did to that mark ass trick Dre
Prince said it was too faggy

probably because feminists are offended by leeloo and they know no one will watch a sequel with a hideous negrified version
>feminists are offended by leeloo
why are you viewing 1997 through your contemporary culture war psychosis lens?
I'm still hoping it happens since a clone of Leelou Dallas multipass has been created, but it might not be possible to have the same director after Valerian flopped.

elaborate what you mean by this
It's all largely superficial but we are talking blockbusters. It wasn't cool when Leeloo would do a Bruce Lee reference but it was cool when Neo did. I find the matrix to be quite boring on rewatches. So much dialogue and exposition. The action is definitely good though.
I think the execution of The Fifth Element is superior to Matrix because it does feel like those European sci-fi comics, complete with Bruce Willis’s mugging face. Its perfectly captured from score to emoting to dialogue pacing.
Because luc besson is a hack all his newer movies sucked
he's not that bad.
"Le grand bleu" is his best movie but nobody saw it outside of France.
Le grand bleu is pure soul
What is America's excuse for not looking like this now
asking that question is anti-semitic
why this person of color disappeared from movies?
Because of Kevin Hart
Is the Fifth Element the most liked film on Cinemaphile?
I'm thinking it is.
Fifth Element or Last Samurai are the only 2 films I see people genuinely defend with a passion.
Both are pretty based
Idk, but it's my favorite sci-fi movie. I wish there were more like it
What's this hair style called and how the fuck does he pull it off?
bruce=good looking+strong jaw, so he can pull off any kind of hairstyle really
my ex looked exactly like her only with normal brown hair
>my ex
you fucked up. bad
>left is technically braindead now
so sad
Every time I watch the movie I wish we could've seen more of the city.
eh. the city is kind of a rip off of altered carbon
why is her dye job so fucked up?
either that was the look they were going for, or they dyed her hair and throughout filming her hair grew and they never bothered doing another dye
She had to use a wig for half the movie because the dye destroyed her hair.
TWENNY TEN TEEEN
Commercial! COMMERCIAL!
Supergreen
Now I want Chinese food
Let me guess, you need "more"
it's bigger than mine
this is a mansion in most big cities in current year
>there's an alternate universe where leeloo is played by natalie portman
Unlimited Soul
I'm going to push the red button and there is nothing you can do to stop me
What does the red dot do?
I read the novelisation. It was fucking weird. The reason new york is covered in fog is because they just dump their garbage out the window like blacks on train and the skyscrapers constantly rearrange themselves by how rich you are.
So, a giant open air Ponte tower?
