Peawiener is mostly just NBC. There are a lot of lame streaming services. Most are merging together now. Apple is on the low end of the premium ones. They don't really have any flagship stuff that people will subscribe specifically for. It's probably mostly Appleheads who are super into apple products. I didn't want to see the black shakespeare Coen movie enough to get it.

I was a bit hyped, then I watched the two opening episodes and realized why this doesn’t work. BoB and Pacific had a constant beat of tension running through them with a handful of R&R episodes as contrast.
Any flyboy show has a major problem in that the only tension is when they’re doing a mission. And then only for a very brief time and in a very limited set of circumstances. Here’s the flak again. Here’s the fighter pilots again.

I thought they did a good job capturing the uncertainty of being lost in the clouds, being jabbed at by fighters and shot to shit. It just can’t ever replicate what made the other shows so good because after those 15 minutes it’s back to barracks and whatever social drama they can drum up.

    CGI sucks too.

It was clearly neutered early in the process by israelite producers who wanted a fat paycheck, so they've tried to make it easily digestible garbage, instead of something that could have had real potential.
I'll still watch the rest because I'm a sucker for anything WW2, but I doubt it will be any better.

Because people now know those shows were just israelite propaganda. BoB cam out 6 months after 9/11, Pacific came out at the height of the war in Afghanistan, as did Gen kill. Theyre just designed to brainwash people with a bullshit hero rhetoric making the allies appear like all encompassing angels that can do no wrong. No doubt Masters of the Air will have some progressive diversity inserts too like a brave Black person airman or some sassy female auxillary officer.

Yeah but thats what people want to see. It also accurately shows the close knit bond and intense banter soldiers(or marines) share with each other. Basically like a frat house. Thats what young men wanted in a military career back then. Whilst it sucks getting ordered around by shit c**ts, the politics and clashes and inter unit rivalry is what makes it exciting.

Because that's what a small military unit that spend an exorbitant amount of time together looks like, morons that normally wouldn't interact with each other outside being forced to live together. Bootcamp, outside the physical exercises and drills, felt like one big camping trip.
But like everyone in the show afterwards, all the funny shittalk and banter isn't worthwhile when added the stupid shit they push on you, morons in charge of the moronic that got baited into the military.

Hell yeah, spent two weeks sleeping in a shallow grave and learning how use a m101.
              >He never had the one frick up of his company after the bulk of boot when they leave us in the barracks begging if someone has a phone with internet because he wants to jerk off
              >He never had the more laxed drill instructor during a health check up saying he can get you a big Mac for 20 bucks
              >He never had a used condom appear at the bathroom sink and having all the drill instructors have the company run laps around the barracks as punishment
              >He never shit all over the white plastic cover sheets of the improvised shitting grounds at night
Looking in retrospect, nostalgia blurs out the all the crap and leave only the good times, but even though, military is not that bad.

Yes. Do you seriously think its a coincidence that in and around the time of 9/11 numerous war films and TV shows got released that depicted elite fighting units, brotherhood, brutal training, herosim and comradery in the face of "le ebil bad guy"?. Uno like basically the things an impressionable 15yo kid gets a hard dick for? BHD was about a bunch of operator chads killing Black folk in a 3rd world country. BoB was about paratroopers, Pacific again MUHREENs, Gen Kill MUHREEN RECON ooh-rah. Lets not forget Jarhead. Its about elite MUHREEN Scout Snipers in the Gulf War. Came out during the height of the Iraq War. Even though its a somewhat negeative depiction of a military experience, that romanticism is more effective at recruiting people than displaying victory.

Lets not forget other propaganda avenues at the time. The History channel. Theres a reason it was the Hitler channel back then, non stop war documentaries and after 9/11 it was shows about elite special forces units selection, training and missions. Discovery channel did BUDs 234. Literally a camera crew following Navy SEALs around through, until then their "secret" selection course. Video games-America's Army gets "leaked" onto civilian market, Battlefield, Conflict:Desert Storm, COD, Full spectrum Warrior etc.

I think it's more likely that Band of Brothers was created to exploit the success of Saving Private Ryan. Anything that was in production before 9/11 is coincidental to the event. Those created after, that's different since they would be shaped by the event. If you believe these were in production before the event based on foreknowledge of the event, you're fricking crazy.

              Anonymous

If you're going to make this argument you should be able to show the data that demonstrates that recruitment was significantly higher in the US armed forces during the period those films and games, etc were released, AND decouple it from 9/11, which should be expected to create a bump because it was a highly publicized attack on the country.

              [...]
And further more to all of this, you had DVDs. All these old war films were getting re-released and pushed onto shelves. Platoon, Apoc Now, Full Metal Jacket. I remember seeing FMJ when I was a 16 and thinking it was the funniest thing ever. I couldnt wait to enlist and get beasted by an instructor. I couldnt wait to finally prove myself, not the bad odd person out in the group and laugh at the fat lazy piece of shit who struggles more than me.

This is more of a comment on your own stupidity and that of the lowest common denominator than evidence of a systemic push to recruit impressionable teenagers. That era saw the widespread adoption of DVD and basically every film ever made was due for a re-release on that format for the next ten years.

Maybe you're just mushbrained and easily influenced. War movies never went out of print, they just changed formats. I had all the ones you mentioned on VHS before DVD. I even had obscure shit like 1950s Italian low-budget war movies. All of this was generally available. It didn't come into being when you turned 16.

However war films always serve a propaganda purpose. Even films claiming to be "anti-war" or "realistic". People who sit there and watch a heroic war epic claim they were upset or disgusted are liars.

                SPR:
                >Everyone dies, horribly
                >But they died heroically like warriors
                >They achieved their mission and in the end all the Nazis run away like cowards

                Das Boot:
                >3 hours of pure terror
                >But you realise real Men actually endured this for years
                >Frick yeah I want to be a part of that

                Thin Red Line:
                >The light....muh soul....
                >Cuts to an hour long battle scene

Because its on streaming only. People arent going to sub to another streaming service to watch one show. Until they go back to selling the rights to TV channels all over the world then they'll get the publicity they want.

When BoB came out here in Australia the majority of the country only had free to air TV with 5 channels. So whenever some big epic like that came to TV its all anyone spoke about.

I dont like the main guy they got for the show. Hes not a good actor. BoB, Pacific and Gen Kills cast were all nobodies, just a bunch of 20 something actors all going through their big break together. It added to the sense of brotherhood and comraderie. I still love watching the Making of documentary for BoB seeing the actors go through their bootcamp and the subsequent meetups the actor have had over the years. Same with Platoon even.
