The other factor is this site has a significantly larger than average population of teenage edgelords. Shawshank has a positive message and an uplifting ending. That's no good, we gotta have our gritty grimdark realism around here and will appraise anything positive as this

Because it's pandering goyslop just like Green Mile and Forrest Gump.

I think a lot of people later on had it talked up way to highly by the time they got to it. I saw it knowing jack shit and it's pretty great that way. It's not the best movie ever, it's a good movie though.

That's literally the point of the fucking movie, that we should feel bad for prisoners because they listened to a song over the loudspeaker at one point. Fuck that homosexual King living in his New England bubble.

No. It simply means that prisoners are also humans. You dont have to like em at all. The movie also panders to fags like you by making andy an innocent prisoner.

            >prisoners are also humans
99% of prisoners are subhuman scum, and if you had met any of them you'd already know this. Instead you live in a bubble just like all the other retards who love this movie and think that prisoners are just normal people who committed crimes because they were going through hard times and not because they were biologically hardwired for criminality.

Was he innocent though? Remember, the movie was told from the POV of Red who got his info from Andy. Of cpurse Andy would claim innocence.

Good film for sure who's qualities shine most in the eyes of the general audience.

The last act is a huge catharhis for some but feels like a lazy cop-out for me.

The only thing about the last act that is a little over the top is Red improbably reuniting with Andy. Andy would not have left clues to his whereabouts laying around in a field. Red could simply have been shown to have used Andy's example to get over his fears of institutionalization, and be able to move on and live his remaining years in peace rather than ending his life as others had done. Besides that there's not much about the ending that is a cop out, it was all set up well in advance.

The only clue andy left for red in that field was the paper saying: You remember the name of the town dont ya? Thats it. An insider between those two. Police could not do shit with that information if they really found it before red.

It's a good sentimental Hollywood flick, not the best thing in the world.

    >It seems like /film/ and other contempories hate it

it is a fine melodrama, but it is not formally interesting and the narrative does not offer any complex or challenging themes. It is a simple story effectively told and very emotional. Good film. but not great. that is why.
