Because Max was sidelined for most of the film. You could remove his character and change the name and nobody would even know it was supposed to be a Mad Max movie

And then they'd make Furiosa the new lead and she'd get it done instead. Hence why they're putting out her movie next

Except she couldn't. Her entire plan crumbled in an instant because the "Green Place" had been gone the entire time.

Furiosa getting a standalone film has been a part of miller’s plan for decades now. It wasn’t a studio mandated thing, he has a story involving her he wants to tell

            Anonymous

But she didn't get a stand alone movie, did she? No. Miller had to use Mad Max as a platform for his stupid feminist trash that nobody would have cared about had he not used an established and beloved character.

I am so sick of Hollywood nu-Marxists, feminists, queers and beta simps trying to convince me that the same b***hes that can't even open a pickle jar or reach the shit on the top shelf without a man around are supposed to be believable "badasses" in action films. They're not.

            Frick off.

these aren't the coddled girls you're used to meeting. there's definitely girls who exist that are completely competent. i used to date this girl who would travel with just a backpack and camp outside where ever she would go, chop her own firewood, boil water and whatever. she was hot as hell too. i went on a trip with her and was pretty emasculated lol.

point is, this environment would create more of that.

That's part of the fun. He's just a wanderer tangled up in bullshit. The movie was unfortunately released right as the DEI stuff was taking over all of culture, but the only thing that is truly reflective of things to come is that its male hero is mostly sexless. "Stoic sexless white man" is the go-to for "positive masculinity" these days. It gives the woke horde a bit of plausible deniability. I still think Fury Road is comparatively good faith as Max remains hyper competent but believably killable.

One of my favorite bits is when he tries to blow off his chain with the shotgun, only for it to jam. He then uses the faulty gun to threaten the concubines, and then Furiosa fails to kill Max with that same gun when she temporarily gains the upper hand. A lazier writer would not have even bothered with that setup, the gun just would have jammed when it needed to. People, even people who like it, really do not give the movie enough credit for how tight it is.

it really is a masterclass of keeping all its set ups visual. every action point in scenes like the road chase is multiple things building off each other at once, and its never confusing as to whats going on
