His ex-girlfriend claims he personally asked Comedy Central to cancel Drawn Together for that reason. Which is why the movie ended up being a pisstake at South Park. Seth MacFarlane even agreed to do a voice for it just because he was also pissed at Matt and Trey.

Can you link the source? I always thought the show sort of fizzled out and since it costed more and brought in less profits than the other edgy show Comedy Central decided to pull the plug.

So assuming this is true, does that mean that they think they hold a patent on the concept of an adult cartoon?

        Anonymous

        1) you probably mean copyright, not patent
        2) no. Drug dealers can hate other drug dealers encroaching on their turf without thinking that they invented the drugs.

Then why they don't hate Simpsons or all the other animated sitcoms, just family guy. ( Unless what the drawn together creators said about matt and they cancelling their show is true.)

        >Unless what the drawn together creators said about matt and they cancelling their show is true
It isn't. No one watches Comedy Central's cartoons other than South Park. It's still true 10 years after Drawn Together had been cancelled.
It's why CC rebooted Beavis and Butthead, AND Ren and Stimpy, cartoons from different channels.

The same can be said of Matt and Trey, and shitting on Isaac Hayes on his deathbed because he wanted no part of their reddit crusade against some scammer cult.

        Anonymous

No man, it turned out the declarations weren't direct said by him but some homosexual spokeperson, and Hayes was in its last years because of the stroke, which literally left him brocken, to the point of just looking like he was subsisting, and Trey and Matt jumped the gun on him instead of, you know, talking to his family and friends about the issue as well as him, but since they grew in the smug centrist ''No one is right (but us), everyone is wrong (but us), both sides are dumb and stupid (but us), no sacred cows (but us), everyone gets mocked, even the innocent (but us), who cares if it only makes the problem worse'' trite....well, it did not ended well for neither.

Like for real, Hayes..... son? nephew? dont remember, but he revealed what really happened.

They couldn't talk to the man himself because he was nonverbal from his stroke. He wouldn't be able to speak for a while (and even when he could speak again, his voice and especially his singing was never the same). I would also assume that they simply didn't have any way of contacting his family without Hayes' scientologist handlers stopping them from doing it.

          >In a 2016 oral history of South Park in The Hollywood Reporter, Hayes' son Isaac Hayes III confirmed that the decision to leave the show was made by Hayes' entourage while Hayes was unable to make such decisions on his own.[27]
          From Wikipedia.
Didn't know he had a stroke, kinda changes everything. 🙁

it's sad too because no matter what, thanks to the stroke, chef would have had to have been retired as a character anyway. but if the fricking scientologist ratfrickers hadn't quit the show, he could have had a positive send-off to his character instead of what actually happened (the return of chef is fricking hilarious, but still).

By the time this came out they were relatively hands-offy on the show itself. I mean, they made their bones, and wanted to rest on their laurels. Kind of like how most shows get 3-8 seasons and then just veer sideways. Seemed like a follow-up to "Simpsons did it!" because they needed to take a shot at everything.

Boring episode, lackluster "punchline" to it.

In the commentary tracks for the Cartoon Wars episodes Trey and Matt outright admit that part of their hatred for Family Guy stemmed from jealousy that Family Guy got 4x the viewers.

I think they took jabs at if because they thought it was too “formulaic”
Family guy and South Park both have spots of shit writing, witty writing, and dumb fun humor.
It’s just that Matt and Trey focus more on being witty and poignant whereas Seth revels in jokes being immature or dumb a majority of the time. Both shows have competent and dare I say somewhat smart writers which speaks as to why the two shows have gotten so popular, the shows just have different priorities and values when it comes to humor.

        >I think they took jabs at if because they thought it was too “formulaic”
They took jabs at it specifically because of the cutaway gags and how they are completely random and disconnected from whatever is actually happening in the episode.
That's where the manatee joke comes from. The cutaways make so little sense and are so disjointed that it's like they are randomly generated ideas.
Though at the same time, in the episode, they DO acknowledge that there's nothing wrong with finding that kind of stuff funny. Hell, they use Cartman as a stand-in for South Park, and explicitly depict him as being in the wrong for trying to get Family Guy cancelled.

IIRC, DT was cancelled because it was expensive to produce and despite decent viewership, advertisers didn’t want to be attached.

To be fair they believe they are smarter than average people but are actually dumb as fricks. By watching this in my more primal and juvenal state I only wanted funny stuff with swearing but then they started to be political and fricked everything with their opinions that nobody cares about.

Like why am I forced to see what they personnally thinks about gays, smokers, mel gibson, scientology, circumcisions and abortions? I don't care about their opinions. Just make me laugh, but they refuse to do that and promote some boring status quo to every problems instead and tell how is this the right answer with Stan or Kyle talking, and how Cartman is terrible and always wrong.

      Anonymous

let me guess, you hate gays, hate smokers, love mel gibson, think scientology is cool, regularly seethepost about being circumcised, and think abortion is against god's will?

      >Like why am I forced to see what they personnally thinks about gays, smokers, mel gibson, scientology, circumcisions and abortions?

        >you made a choice to consume their art
        NTA, but ;et's be reasonable:
If there was a version of South Park presented to me as an alternative choice where these topics were replaced with entirely different topics which wouldn't cause these negative reactions within me - and I was informed that the "normal" version would put me on that cross - of course I would choose it!
That's nowhere near the agency I actually have when choosing media to consume.

In what universe do I have a choice in "I want to watch something like South Park that doesn't contain the aspects I find displeasing?"
        Through AI?

Well I am not them in particular and I honestly don't discuss politics online because I hate putting people into groups and being put into groups - nearly any other argument or thought is more interesting on Cinemaphile.

I will admit - and what I argue- is that if I were the person that you imagine, it would not actually be my choice to be triggered, and be the fault of society for showing someone known to get misery from certain media... that media. That person is - wait for it - too unreasonable to make reasonable decisions if the reason is to AVOID their misery of viewing the show.

I really don't know what you're trying to convince the first anon of, and they don't seem like someone worth winning and argument over, even on Cinemaphile.

i'm not trying to convince the /misc/tard of anything, they are naturally immune to all forms of logic that don't involve pedophilic israeli vampire conspiracy theories.
i simply enjoy making fun of them and reminding them that this is not their website and that not everyone agrees with their whiny incel insanity
              >What's your opinion on Family Guy's portrayal in South Park?
              it was spot on
family guy is only funny when you watch the best jokes condensed into youtube videos. sitting through a whole episode of random shitty cutaway after random shitty cutaway hoping for one cutaway to actually be funny is an awful experience.

Guy, South Park predates the internet. We went through an era of shock humor because it was edgy to actually get an outside opinion that didn't go with the grain into the mainstream. Howard Stern, hell even the Simpsons. South Park was a natural evolution into Cable where you didn't have the FCC directly fining you for swearing.
What your proposing is that nobody have an opinion because it might be different from someone else's.

                Anonymous

                >What your proposing is that nobody have an opinion because it might be different from someone else's.
I was only speaking for someone who truly cannot do anything useful and only experience misery from experiencing an opinion other than theirs.
This is not a reasonable position, and if you think it is the one I hold personally it is not the case.

The hard part of writing comedy is building up for a payoff, they were made that Family Guy skipped all that through cutaways which were the focus of what they hated about FG.

Also this was just when Family Guy was brought back from cancelation for its 4th season so they probably weren't critiquing old family guy as much as they probably were making fun of what was brought back.

Keep in mind season 4 gave us shipoopi, meg hate, Brian doing peanut butter jelly time, Quagmire cheating with Loretta, family moments got more hollow, plots got more whacky, cutaways were more frequent, it basically laid out how things would go moving forward.
