All of my favorite movies were made by Italians of Catholic background so I can only conclude yes, as my taste is, of course, truly and objectively correct
They were cheaper to shoot in Italy and the word 'spaghetti' is interchangeable with 'macaroni' when referring to those kind of westerns. Macaroni and Spaghetti were at one time very popular but soon lost their momentum, much like the genre.
Being cheaper to shoot in Italy, made it easier for filmmakers who had the gift of vision and who couldn't procure any good deals do something with their craft. Italy has some sort of tax-free thing going on if you're filmmaking- it attracts tourists they like that.
The only one I can think of that was shot on Italian soil was The Great Silence, which is kino. It was very dark-themed and Corbucci used it as some sort of anti-capitalist statement flick. Its change of location from the usual desert-setting to snow-topped mountains was a needed change in the genre. They shot in the Dolomites of Northeastern Italy. At that time those areas were really depressed and some municipalities worked to keep the sets of the fictional town and turn it into an amusement park. Sadly, as with most thing Italian, bureaucracy, disorganization, lack of funding and hopelessness didn’t see that project come to fruition. A real shame.
Today in the region of Almeria, in Spain, some of those old towns built in that time are active amusement parks.

They weren't. They're just more well known to current generations, but honestly it's a mixed bag. There are some great spaghetti westerns, but being made in Italy or outside of major studios didn't really make them better or have more potential.
It sometimes takes an outside perspective to showcase the singular otherness of another’s time. Whether it be historically accurate or not, the tone of these specific entries were not held to the same moral standards of Hollywood’s earlier Hays code and as such were able to delve directly into the more complex nature of outlaws and knight errant lawmen.
When they emerged in the 60s the western genre was dead and it introduced a more raw, manly and brutal type of characters. Classic westerns were made during the squeeky clean high ho silver era. Post-Spaghetti westerns are still influenced by them.
>introduced a more raw, manly and brutal type of characters
nah dollars didn't hit america until '67 which was after stuff like the searchers and major dundee
the main influence was the way they were filmed: having a man shoot another and seeing him fall without cutting away. this along with new tech in squibs popularized by bonnie and clyde had an immediate influence on stuff like wild bunch and everything after

Notice how almost all the most famous westerns from the very beginning were "revisionist"? It's a false dichotomy. Only children's TV shows had the hi ho silver thing like you said.
Oh yeah westerns were totally dead in the 60s with huge films like True Grit, How the West Was Won, The Alamo, Liberty Valance, Cimarron and more. I mean it's not like John Wayne was putting out 2 huge western films every single year in the 60s or that tv was absolutely flooded with westerns and stars like Steve McQueen were getting their starts on them. No, it's not like Bonanza was a massive hit and there 60+ western films made in 1965 alone. No, it was totally a dead genre. You little fricking moron you ought to just blow your brains out now.
alamo, how the west was won, cat ballou, shenandoah, and the professionals were all top 10 grossing in their years during early-mid 60s
the genre was very much alive
I'm one of those lazy meds you're talking about and I suffer chronic insomnia. Not only I can't sleep longer than 5 hours but half of the nights I have horrible nightmares. Last night I dreamed that a tree was growing out of my belly button and I was trying to cut it but it just kept growing until I literally became a tree. It was terrifying. Any advice to become a good sleeper? I've never even taken a siesta like you say we all do.
There's something incredibly identifiable and sad about people who live on twitter. They end up endlessly arguing about obscure political denomination wars that have no real world existence.

They were filmed in Spain
It always amused me when those lefty directors and actors made movies in Francoist Spain.
>They were cheaper to shoot in Italy
many italian westerns were actually filmed in Spain, where it was even cheaper

How come the Roman Catholic parts of Germany are the most successful if Catholics are so lazy?
The Good. The Bad and The Ugly is the best western movie ever made. Period and end of story!!!!
I bust my ass at work far more than is necessary. I'm terrified of being a NEET so I do whatever I can to make myself indispensable.

The Catholic and Protestant work ethic doesn't hold a candle to that of a Mormon's.
