Because of Snipes and Kristofferson. Any other actors and it would have been shit.

Comic books were still considered being for nerds so they made a movie where us nerds were the primary audience.

Where I live people had absolutely no idea Blade is a comic book character.

True. Same with Men in Black. I only recently found out it was a comic book movie.

They have that cool underground goth/urban vampire aesthetic from the late 90s/early 2000s
Also Snipes is THE perfect cast

There is physicality in Wesley Snipes, he had martial arts training, and it shows in everything he did, from a stroll to kickass.
Great costumes, great music, fairly short but packed, Chris Christofferson, properly violent, Snipes charisma.

Most action movies in the 90's with Wesley Snipes in were kino. This one probably had a slightly better cast than most and a cool concept/back story with sexy vampires and guns. Good soundtrack too. If techhnically it counts as a comic book movie its forever been one of my favourites, the first one anyway.

Just saw Demolition Man today again, half of that movie is Snipes performance, no one else could do it better.
Man,being in prison for shit that shouldn't exist, we were robbed.

I always loved Drop Zone and Money Train, two of his lesser rated but more entertaining and genuinely funny ones. Gary Busey is great in Drop Zone and Woody Harrelson in Money Train. Hell even J-lo is alright in that movie, but Robert Blake sort of steals every scene he's in lol.

Because the problem has never been about casting. Cinemaphile is perfectly receptive to female leads, black leads, etc. where the filmmaking is good and the casting is appropriate. The problem is assuming that ticking the right diversity boxes with casting means you don't have to pay any attention to basic principles of filmmaking or storytelling.

      this
blade has always been a black character so casting a black makes sense. there was no need for racebending or making political statements with a fricking film. it was just good old comic book exploitation. also for the film they pretty much reinvented the character so it was really their own take and now it's the definitive form of blade.

Wesley Snipes is a charismatic dude

      also this

      >some muthafrickas always be trying to ice skate up hill
