No, he's an unimaginative director. The scenery will just look kinda big.

Looks so generic with shitty CGI.
      No character development.
      Missing loads of context.
      Shit movie.

      >Will Denis go all-out psychedelic?
no, denis fricking hates any color that isn't brown or grey or blue. blade runner 2049 fricking sucks

Everyone's replying with comments about the scenery, CGI, and color. But I think what OP is referring to is the actual DRUG use that's featured in the book.

It's been a while since I've read them, but if I remember properly, Paul takes part in this ritual where the whole sietch trips hard on concentrated spice. And they have this experience where they all feel connected, and pair up into partners to have a semi physical, semi spiritual orgy. Again, my memory is a bit fuzzy, so I don't know if that' exactly what happens. But I remember some truly psychedelic experiences. Not "ooh, look at the pretty colors" psychedelic. But more like "we are one with everything, and I can feel all of time" kind of psychedelic

You're 100% correct. Denis couldn't make a SINGLE shot that looks anything as good as one of these.

How did Scott make two movies with some of the best cinematography in history of cinema than proceed to make soulless flicks for the rest of his career?

He knew he peaked and would never reach that point again. Probably fricks with a guys head.
          >soulless flicks
Hey bud flicks have their place in the mix too. Watching a top tier flick can hit just as well when you need it.

Sure, it's just peculiar that his earliest films were so much better than the the ones he made with a lot more experience and budget.

I think a large degree of blame lies on digital cameras. I don't know a single filmmaker who has managed to successfully transition from film to digital.

Probably a mix of a few things
          >the great cinematographer/production designer that never got the recognition but did most of the work left
          >not being comfortable with new soulless production methods
          >being rich and not wanting to work that hard
Another theory I have is one which you can see with a lot of youtubers. They make 1 or 2 really good videos and only trash after that. The first videos are so good because the guy had been thinking about and refining these ideas for years before he finally bothered to make a youtube account and put his ideas out there. Afterwards he just runs out of ideas. Frankly most people aren‘t all that creative. Coming up with two movies like bladerunner and alien is more than most people will ever achieve. But even that pales in comparison to a hayao Miyazaki

This. I enjoyed the remake and will likely enjoy the second (and possibly third) installments, but Villeneuve is just a garden variety entertainer. He has no vision; he has no understanding of emotion... Honestly the man is kind of emotionally moronic. I still vastly prefer Lynch's 'Dune', for all its flaws.

I think this movie really failed to capture the essence of the story, and adda huge fan of the books I hated it. That being said, I really would like to see the rest of the series get adapted.

But then again they wouldn't have the balls to introduce the concepts or issues brought up in later books (characters discussing Hitler's "modest" kill count, certain characters explaining that male armies are a bad idea because there's too much gay sex, and a certain character flipping his shit over seeing two girls kissing)

The latter two I doubt are a major part of the story and you could convey the dilemma surrounding the Hitler's kill count thing exactly the same, just remove that specific line

also racial/genetic memory, incest (GoT softened this up though), fascism on bath salts, wiener falling off after turning into a sandworm, beefswelling, i could go on

I like the books. But some of it's concepts are ridiculous. No one ever talks about the time that female soldier spontaneously orgasms at the mere site of Duncan's physical prowess.

But it really doesn't make sense that someone would flip their shit over two girls kissing. You would think that in the far future, they'd be more liberal about that kind of thing. It just seemed like the author was trying to work out his own feelings on gay relationships.

I read the books but barely remember anything from them, didn't bother reading the follow ups

Don't know if I'll re read it and read the sequels, Dune to me felt like a very boring world, then again I barely paid much attention while I was reading so I was pretty lost until they invade their home and kill the Atreides, I also don't get if they're humans from the very far future that came from Earth or humans like in Star Wars

Dune is set in the far future. So far in fact, that they already had an AI revolt, and barely survived. But they did, and re-learned how to space travel without using AI, instead relying on spice. Hence why spice is so valuable. If you control spice, then you control trade.

The other anon has a selective memory. He remembers the books talking about Hitler's kill count being modest. Because "based antisemitism". But he forgets the book also had actual israelites. And the israelites culturally remember escaping Earth, as that has been passed down in story.

My thinking is that all of GEoD's Amazons were bisexuals who spent their whole lives around only females, doing f/f intimacy and seeing a giga-chad like Duncan awakened that part of their sexuality that was so understimulated that it caused a maximum overcoom.

Just finished watching "Part one", it was alright, some reviewers said it was slow so I expected a slow movie like Dennis other films, it wasn't

I also think this is the least impressive looking Villeneuve movie, it looked very bland and had capeshit tier CGI, not good

considering how he handled pauls first spice freak out in the tent when he’s supposed to see the jihad for the first time, no.

This. That needed to be a blow out scene. Frankly the main theme of the story hinges on that single first vision and dennis blew it. Thank god he had time for 45 minutes of cgi explosions when the harkonnens attacked though. I don‘t have much hope for part 2
