No. You can never match the feeling that Highlander gave back then. The music was spot-on, it was a little bit both gritty and tacky, the fights weren't crazy, Lambert was simultaneously an awful actor but extremely charismatic, Clancy Brown can never be replaced, and the 80s aesthetic brought it all together.
Pessimistic homosexuals. Miserable people like you make this place shit.

Oh yeah, this time it's gonna be different, guys.
You're a dumb fuck and probably 14, we've had multiple trash Highlander films, and two separate 90s TV series. What the fuck is the point of a Highlander remake in 2023.
Pessimistic homosexuals. Miserable people like you make this place shit.
Yeah I want to reject it out of principle but at the same time, it's made by one of the few legit action directors who's a literal Chad starring our favorite chudcel so...maybe?
How hard can it be to find a just as masculine guy who can act better? Like literally just go to a gym in LA and there’s probably 6 guys who could do better at his typecast role
If there's a movie in dire need of rebooting is Highlander. Great concept, terrible execution aside for the tv show. The Kurgan being the highlight of the movie.
I hope they get a good director that can make the quickening shots shine.
Greystoke is a better movie than Highlander. And trust me, i was the biggest Highlander fan back in the 90s. Highlander was my shit. I rewatched the TV show 3 times probably. I even defended The Raven show to my friends. But i've had plenty of time to break the programming and while the original Highlander movie has its charm, as a movie, it's not very good. Like I said, Clancy Brown is probably the best part of it. Lambert is awful, Connery is there for a paycheck and the action scenes are underwhelming as fuck. It also looks like shit most of the time. The tv series improved on much of what the movie set up, but that isn't to say it was without its flaws.
I actually look forward to what they can do with the franchise because it's an interesting mythology.
I'm not lying when i say the Highlander franchise was my thing back then. I hated Amanda so much in Duncan's show but i craved more Highlander content. Safe to say i didn't last long defending the show.
You forgot the music was good. I thought the action scenes were all right at least for the first movie. The crossover movie with Duncan Macleod had good fight scenes but I think they reused a shot twice in the final fight scene.
Scots and Irish are indigenous to the British Isles more so than the Romans, Angles, Saxons, Norman's and whoever else invaded those islands. If you read the Conan The Barbarian short stories, it's pretty much just Conan traveling from country to country having adventures and being a perpetual barbarian or "foreigner." Don't know why I used Conan the Barbarian as an example since he is suppose to be an ancestor of the Celts while also a descendant of the Atlantians.
Original Highlander was lightning in a bottle and captured the 80's zeitgeist perfectly. This new one could be good for sure, but I doubt it can top the first one. The first one is so good they're still trying to bank on it nearly forty years later.
it hasn't really solidified yet. It was the same in 1983, a lot of stuff from then looks very 70s. At best it will just be another soulless boring remake, not highlander 2 terrible but just completely bland.
Highlander is a fucking great film.
Christopher Lambert is a very unique actor though and part of the reason it works is because of him. I'm unsure if a modern remake with a generic himbo will recapture any of the original magic
I met the black guy who played the black immortal in highlander. macleod drinks with him on a bridge and he dies in an alley to kurgen.
at the time I didn't know it was him, another long career actor was introducing me to him and my response as "sorry I don't watch much television". later found out he'd been in highlander and the star wars prequels.
Pros: >Chad Stahelski & 87Eleven Enterainment >Henry Cavill (assuming he's a fan of Highlander) >Gergory Widen (writer of Highlander) as executive producer. Shows they're at least humoring his opinion.
Cons: >Original Film production company, guys who made Fast & Furious series among other slop >Ryan J. Condal, writer for House of the Dragon, Rampage, and 2014 Hercules >John Petro, has only ever written for one film before and it wasn't good >Kerry Williamson wrote an episode for the Resident Evil tv show
I'm thinking the action will be good but there's a huge risk of it feeling corporate as hell. I'll watch it anyway cause Chad Stahelski and 87Eleven can do no wrong in my book.
Ryan Condal is the guy who wrote the based Conan script for Amazon that was almost turned into a show before a feminist took over the department and scrapped it for being too full of toxic masculinity, causing him to make HoD for HBO instead. For that I will continue to give Condal the benefit of the doubt.

I love weird 80's movies. I didn't get anything out of Highlander. I thought the idea was that as the other immortals are wiped out, the remaining ones got stronger and stronger, until the final two were basically gods. Sort of like that Jet Li movie. Except they didn't showcase that well at all in the movie. The Highlander doesn't seem any more powerful at the end of the movie than at the beginning. The Jet Li movie handled that idea a lot better I think.
They already can be killed though, so already mortal... not really a gift.
And if you meant "immortality" they already have it sans getting your head chopped off.
So... what's the prize?
Already answered you. Mortality. The main theme of the series is that being immortal sucks. Everyone you know, everyone you bond, everyone you LOVE dies. And you have to watch it happen for centuries. The older you get, the more it sucks. It also sucks that you have to be watching your back ALL THE TIME because you never know when a maniac wielding a sword will burst into your house to chop off your head.
Winning the Prize means you can finally grow old with someone and not be on the lookout forever.

Yeah I get that, but they could an hero at any time. For instance after there wife died of old age.
So the theme is more, don't ever give up while you're still living, dying of old age or in defending yourself is honorable but suicide isn't.

Yeah well, in the tv show you see quite a few immortals doing this, but Connor (and Duncan) aren't cowards.

They aren’t aware what the prize is, which is Ramirez trained Connor despite him being competition; he was terrified The Kurgan would win and doom the planet if the prize let him.
Also, the original movie never made it clear if the prize was what something Connor wanted or if every Immortal would have won the same prize.
It will be awesome. Also, 18yo Cavill was extremely handsome hot. But he's still handsome hot rn just not as extremely handsome hot. I hope there will also have a handsome teen Richie best friend for Cavill's character.
the original film had lambert that was sufficient (and nothing more), connery that was good as a teacher figure and Clancy Brown which was the best of all actors in the film and portrayed the best villain of his kind.
Henry is better as a hero than lambert but who will they use for the teacher and who more importantly for the villain?
Will it be on film or digital? The first was on film and this made the result much better.
Will they keep it simple and vague like the first film or will they add modern sjw etc bullshit or idiocies from the other films and tv series?
Highlander was one of those films that maybe could have been a huge franchise, if they had ever managed to actually capture the feeling of the original, unfortunately besides the TV show every single one of them was dog shit and the TV show was only okay.
The world of Highlander is really interesting it's got so much mystery, hopefully they don't ruin that.
Rock works because we need someone taller than Cavill, or maybe he wants to be Kurgan and that would be fine.
And Rock doing a real dark villain turn could be the only thing that makes him cool again so, give the homosexual a shot.
Yes, I put in Sophie Turner. She is in the age range and has the irish vibe. Give me someone better. And someone else mentioned Banderas first and yea, he's perfect.
I'm pretty sure the Rock actually refuses to play villains anymore because he doesn't want to play someone who loses. Anti-heroes is the worst he'll go.
>Is there any single band today capable of something like that?
absolutely not. they will either reuse the original music or will just go with a regular old film score.
>Henry Shitville project >good
his only good thing was fallout where he was just a passenger and maybe man from uncle but that was hard carried by Dębicki
Anyway original ours already soullest movie ever so this shit will suck
Highlander along with the original Mad Max are the only two movies I'd actually want to get remade. They're very rough executions of amazing concepts, a remake wouldn't be pointless and could add a lot.
because they have to shoot it poorly on cheap digital and then color grade it so the only two colors present are blue and orange
any more questions chud?
no
Pessimistic homosexuals. Miserable people like you make this place shit.
Yeah, and your "OH THANK YOU DADDY, MORE GOYSLOP" attitude is a real fucking winner, right?

exactly.
it certainly won't top the last 5 highlander sequels. I'm not including 2 and 3 either.
Who's playing the kurgan?
Batista was pinned for the longest time but now he's too old
Too old to play an immortal?
God I hope it's not him, I can't stand that fag
This is true but a remake in by these guys does have a chance of at least being good.
My ancestor 🙂
who the fuck wanted a highlander reboot LMAO
Sane people. The original is not the great movie you think it is once the nostalgia goggles come out.
I only know the original because of Queen and Connery.
I think this actor was tarzan too which he was great as

Was The Raven a bad show? I never got around to watching The Raven, I only caught reruns of The Highlander series on the SyFy channel.
Yes. It didn't sink as low as the franchise got in some places, but on anyone's scale of 1-10, it's not hitting a 5+.
They hated him because he spoke the truth
A series with no good installments after multiple films and TV series over 40 years should be left in the dustbin of history.
It's a great concept.
Should be fun, hopefully it’ll get good sequels too cause Highlander sequel was god awful
Too pretty to play a barbarian
Scots aren't really barbarians.

So what's the 2020s zeitgeist?
it hasn't really solidified yet. It was the same in 1983, a lot of stuff from then looks very 70s. You can see it in stuff like Blade Runner which came out in 82, lots of things that went on to define the cyberpunk aesthetic which is part of the whole 80s zeitgeist, but which still has the occasional hint that its very 70s like Deckard's brown coat but it isn't anywhere near as 70s as for example Alien.
Right now we're still dealing with the 2010s which was basically defined by streaming TV shows, the MCU, and tons of reboots, remakes, spin-offs and so on. This reboot is part of that.

I'd like it to be good but for me Lambert will always be the Only One.
So will he be playing MacLeod or some other immortal? The setting seems pretty ripe for spinoffs without having to reboot the original.
The weirdest shit about all the Highlander sequels is they take place in the future, or post-apocalypse. I guess nobody wants to spring for costumes and sets.
why does he have a penis instead of the nose

no chance the villain will be better than clancy brown as the kurgan
Highlander is a perfect movie there's no need to remake it on the other hand at least it's not a black woman as the lead
Only if it has 80s rock ballads.
I guess the question is, who do you think would be a good Kurgan to cast?
nigris nigba
Gary Busey or his son if he’s too old

the original film had lambert that was sufficient (and nothing more), connery that was good as a teacher figure and Clancy Brown which was the best of all actors in the film and portrayed the best villain of his kind.
Hollywood is creatively bankrupt
>reboot
fuck off >-<
Can he still be jame bond or is that over for good?
According to Broccoli, they haven't even started talking about the new Bond movie.
When’s the last time Hollywood made anything good?
The first one was a documentary filmed in real time.
I'd be excited for this except i just somehow know Cavill will playing Ramirez and some minority chick will be the Highlander
>100million
>for a remake of something no one cares about
lmao. Incoming flop.
100 million is a low budget these days
ok
incoming WMbF
Highlander was one of those films that maybe could have been a huge franchise, if they had ever managed to actually capture the feeling of the original, unfortunately besides the TV show every single one of them was dog shit and the TV show was only okay.
The world of Highlander is really interesting it's got so much mystery, hopefully they don't ruin that.
I’ll watch it.
There will be a trans highlander who every generation just switches genders with their new identity for the lols.
Highlander is Cavill. Ramirez is Banderas. Kurgan is the Rock. Sophie Turner is the wife.
Movie tells the whole and he wins the prize. Sequels can just be his autobiography telling the world his story, Interview with the Vampire style.
How are they possibly going to get a soundtrack to top Queen’s? Is there any single band today capable of something like that?
>Is there any single band today capable of something like that?
absolutely not. they will either reuse the original music or will just go with a regular old film score.
Not really, arena rock bands like Queen are long time dead, what else do you have? Hip hoop and poop is popular now, not a single rock band on sight
>i dont listen to anything but slop so that means its not out there
ok boomer
ok goober, nice outfit too
name 1 (one) rock band as popular as Queen was back then when this movie came out
>100M budget
for fucking what?
it's a half dozen dudes in weird old timey outfits swordfighting in abandoned warehouses
fuckin hwood...
i really love " the rules" the idea of a set of rules that immortals follow as they duke it out over all eternity is so cool.
calling it now - his mentor Ramirez (Sean Connery) will be a brown woman
As long as she's hot I'm okay with this
>Henry Shitville project
>good
his only good thing was fallout where he was just a passenger and maybe man from uncle but that was hard carried by Dębicki
Anyway original ours already soullest movie ever so this shit will suck
Lol just noticed it's the john shit guy, this will be total fucking garbage
It is time for a female highlander.
Highlander along with the original Mad Max are the only two movies I'd actually want to get remade. They're very rough executions of amazing concepts, a remake wouldn't be pointless and could add a lot.
I hope they don't have the villain become an urban punk like they did in the 80s movie. Brown pulled it off admirably but it was a dumb decision.
>$100 million
WHY IS IT SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE
because they have to shoot it poorly on cheap digital and then color grade it so the only two colors present are blue and orange
any more questions chud?
gimme the quick Cinemaphileapproved rundown on the lore of this movie.
just see it, it's kino
i like Cinemaphiles takes on lore
Man they really fucked up with the naming of this franchise. Pretty much locked the main character into being from Scotland.
Yeah not for Caville, a skasgard would be much better
*Sip* ah, the Highlander, now THERE was a movie. Yup.
idris elba
one of my favorite movies. i just watched this two days ago and already forgot he was in it.
