Will it ever be likely we get more gay males in cartoons?
The closest we have is Kipo, but they're both the side characters and nothing else about the show is interesting to me.
We have lesbians in Korra, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, She-ra, The Loud House and The Owl House. But we hardly if ever have gay males.

Supernatural could have done it but they pussied out. Literally their entire fandom for ten years had been Fujos and they couldn’t do it. If they can’t, no show will ever do it because guys kissing doesn’t have mass appeal and turns off viewers in a way girls kissing is the opposite and more tolerable

Lemme make a correction. The audience of women that is aggressively fujo and likes gay shit is a niche. It’s not the level of mainstream appeal studios and corporations want. Heterosexuality sells better to women by the numbers.

There’s scientific evidence watching guys kiss makes the average man have the same biological disgust reaction they do to seeing maggots. Compare that, along with the risk of aids, to the “harmlessness” and hotness of lesbians, on a biological level lesbians are more acceptable.

They’ll never be as common as lesbians, and for a good while expect them to be older background characters you can largely ignore. At best, maybe a gay male will be one of the secondary characters with the least amount of focus and screen time.
Netflix will give you one but the protag won't be cute and it will be gone from the cultural zeitgeist so fast you would for get it

Yes. Newer generations are growing up in a climate where homosexuality is more or less socially acceptable. Kids don't call things they don't like "gay" any more. The current oversaturation of lesbians will burn out, gays will be seen as unremarkable in cartoons and representation will drop to be more proportionate to the percentage of gays in the population, or at least the percentage in cartoonists. Without pushback, the pressure for all gay characters to be lesbians will be lessened. Judging from past trajectory I estimate 10 years.

Another thing to consider: Gay males in cartoons get far less attention then lesbians (and especially lesbian ships) and far less forced marketing to the point some people don't realize they exist in shows.
How many of you know about Mildew and the numerous canon gays in Jellystone? Or that Launchpad is canon bi in Ducktales? Or Danger Mouse is bi in his reboot?
