TV? No. Streaming? Maybe. Boondocks was lightning in a bottle. There's a reason why the last season wasn't good and the cancelled continuation sounded bad. It just takes the right talent to come together and to be on a platform that doesn't give a frick.

I REALLY hate this argument. It was EXTREMELY controversial at the time. Adult swim was the only network that would even touch it and it was considered a literal who network back then. It was the FIRST show on television not to censor the word "Black person" and the MLK episode had several civil rights activists up in arms including Al Sharpton. The creators didn't care, they did it anyway because it had real passion behind it and was never about the money. You have any idea how provocative speaking out against the Iraq war was on day time television in the early 2000s? They did it anyway. It'd be like speaking against Ukraine now but even worse.

This show would absolutely work today, but it'd have to have writers who actually believe in something and who weren't deterred by some gays on social media.

Everybody says this but The Boondocks also vilifies white people, if not even more so. The Boondocks is critical of Blacks but it's more of a "We got problems but we can work through them and rise up" and not "Black folk will never be shit" like Cinemaphile thinks it is.

It made me kinda sad when they kicked the voice of Early Cuyler over some twitter shit even if it made sense. It's clearly the end of an era.

Things change. You even said it yourself it was a "who" network and now everyone knows the channel and has shares in it.

Obviously, it won't be on adult swim because as you said the network isn't what it was. It will have to be somewhere new and very niche with people who have balls and actual beliefs on a different medium.

Anon, Riley calling everything gay is clearly shown to be a bad thing. Riley is a moron who mimics everything he sees on TV and his gay bashing is supposed to be a commentary on homophobia. When his hero Gangstalicious is shown to be gay and kissing another man, Riley overdoses on copium and gaslights himself.

It was made by a radical socialist. Not some dye-haired western one either but a former black nationalist (basically as close you get to serious Marxist movements in the US). That's why it's so unique, kino and artfully made. It was a once-in-a-generation thing.

I also think 'another cartoon like x' is the wrong mindset. Boondocks didn't try to be anything, it was revolutionary for being its own thing. Anything that tries to "be the new boondocks" is going to merely be a lesser copy of the original.

It more made fun of types who think peaceful protest does anything meaningful. A genuine Marxist understands a single theatre going on strike won't change much alone.

The first two seasons made self criticism of Huey that being a revolutionary socialist means jackshit if you're too autistically tenacious to even understand and convince the common people.
Like Black Jesus was literally he kicked out every white kid and parent out of the staff and demographic just so he can wank off to a handful of critics and journalists.
