It's not that complicated: Rock thought he could main the DCEU, used his influence to get the movie made to that end, the movie underperformed, Rock tried to save face, it blew up in his face, and Warner decided to bury him to save their own face with mixed results.

    Textbook Hollywood backstabbing.

I think what really did it was
      >Dwayne trying to strongarm and control the new DC universe away from Gunn, making enemies along the way higher up on the food chain
      >Shilling his booze brand at company events
      >Tried to mislead investors about the state of the film/reception and got caught

Here's what gets me; Dwayne couldn't just play ball, and play the character for what it was. He couldn't accept being a complex Billy Batson antagonist that could have multiple appearances playing both sides, no, he had to be the front and center big star who disregarding the DCEU's only decent hit (Shazam) in favor of a title fight with Superman no one wanted (and now will never happen). This would be like if Baron Zemo yanked control over Avengers films and got propped up as a bigger deal.

What really pisses me off about this film is retconning Shazam, and effectively sabotaging the sequel which gave us those 3 goddesses doughnutsteels

Every other DC movie besides Shazam was a huge runaway success and every other Rock movie besides Shazam was a flop. He definitely needed them, they didn’t need him.
Now there will never be a good DC movie all because the stupid jerkface poopy idiot Rock had to get involved 🙁

What did he do that was so bad? The movie was good. And it set up the Black Adam-Superman rivalry that would've been amazing.

Now we're getting another pointless reboot with worse actors and Lex as the main villain for the 15th time.

            LOLOL
            Oh lord...no.

The whole Black Adam saga was a funny moment in the DCEU copefest fiasco.
Anons actually blamed the Rock, someone who got into the franchise very late, for ruining the entire DCEU. They seemed convinced that a Shazam 2 movie with Zachary Levi fighting the Rock as Black Adam would be a giant success, but a solo Black Adam movie would be doomed to fail.
Then the Rock’s big plan for the DCEU basically amounted to “bring back Henry Caville,” it was no different from what the online fans said they wanted, except now the Rock would also have his movie.

It's not that he ruined the DCEU, that ship was already sinking. The problem is that he basically fricked up their soft reboot, effectively wasting the JSA out the gate and sabotaging would could have been a fun Shazam sequel. Now the new Superman films like a "Okay lets try this a third time" gambit where we're watching a studio struggle to get a franchise off the ground.

            The frick are you smoking?
No one anywhere on Cinemaphile or any board that wasn't a paid DC shill fricking thought this.

The sideways frick makes you think that the rock playing a villain in the shitty shazam movies was going to sell?

Only way shazam would work with big rubber suit israelite guy no one wanted to see was if he shows up as the kid and ends as levi and the rock is pissed at the wizard shazam for making a child captain marvel again.

And they have a confrontational mentor mentee type thing.

Anything else will just embarass everyone.

            >Dwayne trying to strongarm and control the new DC universe away from Gunn,
Gunn wasn't even hired until after Black Adam flopped. In fact Zaslav wanted Fegie, but got rejected.

Gunn had been blacklisted from Marvel after making some pedophilia posts on social media. So Zaslav managed to scoop him up.

But we know Alonzo likes her girls young and we know about her and the chick who played ms.america.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman both did better, and that's not even counting the Snyder flicks.

We're talking about money, and they all made more money.

No one is going to launder that much money through the movies anymore.
Disney and DC already used it to steal enough and aren't going to be able to get away with it anymroe.

Because people still liked The Rock and it was a decent bad guy role people wanted to see? This isn't complicated, and your attempts at revisionist history isn't going to work. Dwayne fricked up and got too big for his britches. Shazam was a fun movie, and they could have had a great sequel

        >Warner decided to bury him to save their own face with mixed results.
JEEZ LOUISE are you people sometimes so clearly clueless and out of touch.

Someone like Harvey Weinstein or Bill Cosby (in addition to both now being far too old to be productive) wouldn't be able to come back from what they were convicted off, including being in prison, but people have HUGE movie failures all the time and come back - a perfect example is Kevin Costner with Waterworld but there are tons of examples.

All WB did is no different than say Sony did with Leto and Morbius or Disney did with Alden Ehrenreich (or Ron Howard) and Solo, or any other studio would do in a similar situation.

        >wreck and
        >bury
        >shit/threw
just speaks to the level of imbecility on this board.

To be honest the Rock's career has been shit for a while. He had to practically beg to get back in F&F franchise because of that shit with Vin Diesel. The guy has had to eat humble pie because he isn't any kind of draw and his old streak of bad movies that still did alright hasn't help him anymore. Dude is just boring and hollow and his "charisma" doesn't land anymore

This is all true but to be fair, he still can get enough attention on his social media that he could end up doing something like Howie Mandell and end up hosting or regularly appearing on reality or game shows that were popular enough to help buy several houses. Same thing for people like Rob Lowe and Jamie Foxx; someone like Dax Sheppard or Joel McHale were never huge to begin with, but even they should be embarrassed.

If I were a popular comedian or movie actor, I would be ashamed for that to be my public/known career, but I would like to think I would be smart enough to have saved up enough money to live off than embarrassing myself chasing ANY bit of fame or ANY bit of 'fortune' such as it were.

          It's embarassing.
It's obvious what's going on, and it was a massive frick up.
The new reboot was damned to failure.
They had one ONE hope to fix this and that was to rejigger the Ezra movie to END with FLashopoint and have everyone show up in a crisis type event on the cheap to end eveything.
From there they could renegotiate contracts and see who would show up in the new universe in what capacity and even have fanvotes for story ideas to give the ILLUSION that the fans have a say.

Just stop doing anything DC related. All future projects are doomed because only hacks are in charge. No comics, no merch, no cartoons, no movies. Just stop, it's not going to work out anymore. All the characters need to be retired and forgotten.
