>Wish failed because Asha is a quirky girl
Maribelle is a fricking freak that's impossible to relate to and Encanto is Disney's biggest W since Frozen.
Stop parroting the quirky girl meme.

It failed because the movie sucked and wasn't interesting
>Maribelle
Frick off newbie
>Mirabel
Sorry I'm white
what? What the frick are you talking about? did she have a nickname on the board that im forgetting? why call that guy a newbie?
What, you can't relate to being a huge fricking loser compared to the rest of your family?
Anon, no need to call me by my name
>Encanto is Disney's biggest W since Frozen
The movie didn’t even make a profit you financially illiterate dork
>source:???
I accept your concession.
Sanest reaction to being asked "What do you mean?"
From wiki:
>Budget $120–150 million
>Box office $256.8 million
That’s worldwide, not domestically
You can still bomb if you didn’t get your money back domestically, like The Flash did
Damn, a loss of about 100 million.
So, assuming Disney got 60 percent of every single solitary ticket sale, 60 percent and not a single digit less, AND all of its advertisment was 100 percent free, everyone just made trailers and billboards and media out of the kindness of their heart, not a single red cent spent to show this to the masses, AND this 60 percent was worldwide, as in every other country was just fine only having 40 percent of every single ticket sale and also advertised it in their countries just because they found it was such a great film, if it did ALL OF THAT...
60 percent is 153 million back, on a 150 million(If not more, as Rise of Skywalker has shown us), budget. Well gosh, don't we look stupid, it totally made money! Unless of course they spent 5 whole million on advertising, in which case it ONLY lost 2 million!
That means the movie lost money because it cost about $100 million to market+ Disney lies to investors about how much their films cost and is currently being sued for it.
Also Disney only keeps 60% of domestic box office and only about 10% of global receipts. Encanto merch isn't making up for the losses. It was a massive flop. Adorkable MC Mirabel is one of the reasons it flopped. No Clouds Allowed in the Sky guy was more beloved on this board than Mirabel.
>Adorkable MC Mirabel is one of the reasons it flopped.
That doesn't sound right at all.
Maybe the 'flop' part is believable but strictly because of Mirabel being "quirky?" I haven't heard a single person say that once.
>Maribelle is a fricking freak that's impossible to relate to
What exactly is freaky about her?
>Maybe the 'flop' part is believable but strictly because of Mirabel being "quirky?" I haven't heard a single person say that once.
You're right, her being ugly and old and frumpy looking played more of a factor.
>her being ugly and old and frumpy looking played more of a factor.
This is still the first time I've heard that. You're wording it like she's wicked witch level ugly. The non-Cinemaphile reviews I've seen for this film mention nothing about how she looks.
i think maribelle is pretty. little girls like luisa so it's not about how she looks.
if anything the issue with maribelle is she's too relatable. there's a reason all the little girls wear elsa dresses and the anna dolls don't sell, being 'the normal one' is just not what a little girl's princess fantasy is about.
I actually kinda like this theory. Movies are about fantasy and over-the-top stuff so I can at least see the logic behind this reasoning.
It's better logic than half the people I see calling it too "woke" since the film had nothing to do with it.
this makes the most sense. If you give girls a choice between being:
>An ice princess
or
>A mexican
What do you think they'll choose?
She’s not Mexican.
Like it matters. Ice princess or some latina?
Great theory. Mirabel and Anna are just too relatable and not aspirational enough. By comparison Elsa is:
>a queen
>has ice powers
>a cooler dress
And Luisa
>is STRONK
>everyone likes her
Anna gets taken advantage of in her film, multiple characters call her out for being naive or implicitly state they think she’s stupid. Mirabel gets bullied by her own family in the movie. Even if little girls don’t think Luisa is pretty she’s at least higher up on the pecking order and doesn’t get picked on.
On the playground who do you think the little girls will want to play as?
They're written by adults that are supposed to be more mature than the average child or Cinemaphile user but honestly a kid probably will just be like 'meh'. Frozen and Zootopia have a pretty boring setting, pretty bland plot and little girls flocked to it because they liked how the character looks. Cars did well because boys like the racecar toys and cars are cool for boys. It's weird and dumb but it's knowing your audience.
he did say one of the reasons, I'm an adult that watches too much porn and pirates everything so I'm not really a good market for Disney even if I like Mirabel, it's just kind of a weird in between where it doesn't have massive curb appeal to kids which are the primary audiance.
that's actually pretty bad movies nowadays have to make 3-4 times their Budget at the Box office to make up for the advertisings and cinemas cut of the profit especially with nobody buying DVD anymore.
gdi
? she's a little chipper and has unfortunate fashion sense but she was probably the most well adjusted in that family.
The movie plot itself was very low-tier, but the musical bits were so well constructed.
The plot gets a bit hokey (Bruno lives inside the walls? really?) but the themes it deals with are heavily relatable and they are handled well.
The one thing that people complain about which is >muh generational trauma but it's handled with such grace. I liked Coco but the whole fricking "no music" thing is so unrelatable and moronic. Encanto on the other hand has real family dynamics as the basis of its conflict.
Daily reminder that if you like Rapunzel or Anna you HAVE to like Mirabel and Asha because they’re literally the same except for that one thing. You aren’t racist are you?
She's a lot more homely than either, chubby, big dorky glasses, unflattering frizzy hair, baggy dress, big nose. But I do think she's cute in her own frumpy way.
Frick off, you race baiting son of a b***h. Don't ever talk to me or my dick ever again.
What does quality shemale porn have to do with being racist? Also Mirabel has much better troony r34 than Anna.
Encanto was hardcarried by unclefrickers
Get off the computer, Mirabel
SHUT YOUR FRICKING FACE
Canadians liked Encanto that much?
Encantos success is 100% LMM
Encanto was forgettable slop just like everything else post-Zootopia
Wanting to frick bunnys and sheepgirls doesn't make a mid movie about "racism bad" interesting
i desire him
>impossible to relate to
You got magical powers OP? What are they?
Just punched my screen for some reason
Moana was more successful
Encanto initially bombed
it only got popular later because the Bruno song got popular on TikTok
people were still avoiding theaters when it came out, it immediately well on streaming on the other hand
>people were still avoiding theaters when it came out
Sing 2 made 400 million one month later.
Also a sleeper indy hit named Spider Man made a couple million, less than a month later.
Mirabel’s problem is she looks a solid decade older than she’s supposed to be.
Like she looks like a 20-something frumpy single woman with at least two cats instead of being 15 like she’s said to be.
>Like she looks like a 20-something frumpy single woman with at least two cats
Disney's second largest demographic after children
I'm pretty sure she is the lead writer's self insert
>self insert is browner than she is
Why?
Well ya can't make it TOO obvious
>instead of being 15
I never saw this movie and I just assumed she was 20 something. Jesus fricking christ.
It failed in the theaters though it only found a following once it hit Streaming and even then it wasn’t really successful as the merch is still collecting dust on the shelf of bargain stores
>Columbians got one of the best disney movies of the last 5 years
>SEAmonkeys got Raya
I guess the good news about Wish flopping is that there aren't any Moors left to care about their representation.
>Pitch: Disney does martial arts fantasy action movie!
>We get Raya
I will never not be mad.
I have never seen it but I will forever love Raya for getting Lindsay Ellis cancelled by her own fanbase for being racist after saying it was an Avatar the Last Airbender ripoff. Lindsay Ellis quit social media she was getting so much bullying from her own fans for criticizing Raya, even though no one liked it. What a hill to die on.
those weren't ellis's fans. they were haters. i used to think the concept of a person who just sits around all day seething was just shit rappers made up, then i found out about twitter
kys sisterfricker
I'm annoyed that she's out of the public eye now because I used to use her videos to track her slow but consistent weight gain. As a fatgay I of course love watching women get bigger, and Ellis was porking up nicely. It even seemed to be accelerating in the lead-up to Raya coming out. Now I can't chart her progress any more, so I'm annoyed.
Get help
What is the context for this?
Meds
>get help
you not understanding the joke of the post is beyond my comprehension, but goddamn it's hilarious to see a real moron in action.
Did this shit have no marketing? I legitimately thought that this was netflix original anime type thing until this year
It was direct to D+
People here in Spain actually kind of gave a damn for a while
Give a damn how? Like they were excited for it?
>Encanto
>"one of the best disney movies of the last 5 years"
The grim state of Disney
why are so many Disney movies directed by Asians these days?
>Wish failed because Asha is a quirky girl
Said fricking no one
The sad reality is that no little girl wants to grow up to be Mirabel.
>Maribelle is a fricking freak that's impossible to relate to and Encanto is Disney's biggest W since Frozen.
Encanto flopped too. No one wants Mirabel merch. No one buys Mirabel merch. The stupid bruno song is forgotten. You only think Encanto was a success because Disney said it was. In reality it lost them a lot of money.
>Encanto is Disney's biggest W since Frozen.
But it wasn't. Just because it had a popular song and was watched on streaming doesn't mean Encanto was a success. That's like saying Quest for Camelot was a success because it had the song "The prayer" and aired on Cartoon Network all the time.
>Just because it had a popular song
On top of this, songs only get played on the radio if you pay for it. Disney used payola to get that Bruno song played on popular radio stations for 2 months. When they stopped paying, radio stopped playing the song, and now it too is forgotten. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney paid top tik tok influencers to make Don't Talk About Bruno dance videos too to try to create the illusion that it was an organic meme. Encanto merch doesn't sell and rots on the shelf and at Disneyworld. That is proof the movie is a flop.
Anecdotally, I went to Disneyland on Halloween, and the Mirabel meet and greet had zero line. No one wanted to meet character actor Mirabel either. Pic related says she was in California Adventure but when I was there she was sitting in Adventure Land with her handler and no one lining up to meet her.
ironically shes too skinny to be attractive
otherwise thats pretty fricking depressing
This movie succeeding destroys every victim angle they try to give Wish and I love it.
>Overanimated
Looks tiktoky
>Encanto is Disney's biggest W since Frozen
All these films did better than Encanto
>Frozen
>The Wind Rises
>Planes: Fire and Rescue
>Big Hero 6
>Inside Out
>Zootopia
>Finding Dory
>Moana
>Cars 3
>Coco
>Incredibles 2
>Ralph Breaks the Internet
>Toy Story 4
>The Lion King
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
II
>Spies in Disguise (unclear if better or nearly as good)
>Elemental
In fact, Encanto was a borderline bomb. It's not clear it made its money back.
In fact, Elemental is the only animated Disney film since Frozen II, which I hope is the Frozen you meant, to definitely make its money back.
Jennifer Lee destroyed Disney Animation with no survivors. Is Frozen II the only successful movie she made since taking over?
It's funny that in 2019 DIsney had the Highest Grossing Movies for every rating aside from R (G: Toy Story 4, PG: Lion King LA, PG13: Endgame), and now their only profitable movie of their main brands movie did not even make 900 Million.
Ralph Breaks the Internet came out under her. Technically.
This is what Disney gets for not making the giant e-girl film.
The songs in Encanto are catchy and people liked the other characters better than Mirabel
>The songs in Encanto are catchy
There's only one song people even remember and it isn't even that good, really. Encanto is just really lame when you get down to it.
>no antagonist
>conflict is just petty family bickering
>pretty much nothing at stake besides the magic house, the consequences of losing it are that... they have to live in a normal house?
>wow, I sure hope they don't have to live like a regular person, imagine how shitty that would be!
Encanto is fine, it also showed they could still make a semi decent movie after how fricking shit stuff like Frozen 2, Ralph 2, and Raya were. Then they immediately proved everyone who thought that wrong by making Strange World and now Wish.
Three memorable songs.
>>no antagonist
Their abuela
is just petty family bickering
It's a reasonable conflict
much nothing at stake besides the magic house, the consequences of losing it are that... they have to live in a normal house?
>>wow, I sure hope they don't have to live like a regular person, imagine how shitty that would be!
The powers were symbolic of being born gifted.
I think the main problem with Encanto is that you could easily slot another member of the family into Mirabel's role and still have the film work.
>>>no antagonist
>Their abuela
She did nothing wrong.
I didn't say that they were good, just catchy, I agree that the movie is just simple and boring, I only remember it when I want to fap to Camilo and Isabela's love interest. The only good thing was that twitter have a madrigalcest month, which I found funny.
Grandma could have been more controlling and show how this affects the family more, if it was a cartoon then they could have expanded it upon.
Are you the same anon as before?
>and Encanto is Disney's biggest W since Frozen.
Being less of a failure than the other failures does not make you a W, Encanto
One, Wish failed for a bunch of reasons. Asha being a shit character is just one of them.
Two, Encanto didn't actually do particularly good.

I hate manic pixie girls
I hate quirky girls
I hate le nerd girls
I will never consume products with them in it.
My big thing is you notice it's never actually a manic pixie dream girl. She's never floaty or sugar sweet and a little schizo, it's always some "Having a peppy tone is a personality!" tomboy wannabe who can hang with the boys. The classic legitimately weird vaguely spiritual girl without an aggressive bone in her body and who's generally an air head is anathema to modern "quirky" girls because it's not "empowering" enough.
>Ng points out things like the choice of framing were done to hide the inability of the animators to depict a horse walking. He referenced one scene where Magnifico rides a horse, doing it all in a semi-close-up probably because the inexperienced/inept animators cannot animate a horse’s legs and movements believably—shocking considering this is supposed to be the commemorative “100 Years Of Disney Animation” benchmark movie for the Walt Disney Company.

Go away, shill. Learn to spell, or maybe you are a bot?
I love that the overwhelming consensus has learned exactly that was said early on by reviewers for this film: Encanto is a B-tier movie that somehow manages to bungle itself down to C-minus grade by the end.
ITA is a half assed attempt to connect a co-director's career to the plot.

>“Everyone keeps talking about, ‘Aren’t you stressed? It’s 100! How do you uphold that legacy?’” Veerasunthorn said. “But at some point, I felt like, ‘Oh, we can turn this energy into excitement.’”
>During an interview last month at the studio’s headquarters in Burbank, Calif., the 41-year-old director — wearing oversize magenta glasses and baby pink-accented sneakers — laughed frequently and verged on tears more than once. Not unlike the characters she brings to life, her energy was infectious.
>“The journey that a person takes toward a goal, that is what this movie is about,” Veerasunthorn said. “It took me a few tries to get here. If I were to be discouraged the very first time, this would never have happened.”
>She added, as tears brimmed in her eyes, “This film is saying that the choice is always yours, no matter what the situation.”
well that was awkward and painful
Que es una GILF?
Do people really say Mirabel is quirky? People like to act like the most recent Disney female leads are very similar, but they aren't really. She looks silly, but as a character she isn't really that quirky
"We don't talk about Bruno" is the only reason that movie is even acknowledged. Wish didn't have a single good song.
would absolutely miscegenate my holy white aryan genes with
Mejorar la raza, as they say in S.America.
>why yes I purchase funko pops how could you tell?
>Disney's biggest W since Frozen.
lmao
>On a global scale, the theatrical release of Encanto grossed $234,197,979 worldwide, which excludes the film from the top 100 highest-grossing Disney theatrical releases. Frozen (2013), a Disney film commonly compared to Encanto grossed $1,265,596,785 worldwide and its sequel, Frozen II (2019), grossed $1,445,182,280.
And while we're comparing Enc**to to Frozen: no matter how hard they tried to push this narrative last year, the "impact" of that Bruno song was no where near Let It Go. I had to look up the Bruno song to hear what it sounds like and I've heard it no more than three times ever, and that's only because it was played during news reports about how it's supposedly so much more viral and more popular than Let It Go. That's bullshit. Let It Go was fricking everywhere and could not be escaped for YEARS and even a decade on I still hear it somewhere at least a couple times a month.
Frick you, frick Enc**to and frick Muslim Spain.
