and this is why none of you should doctor with star wars, ever
their being siblings is absolutely necessary to make the audience believe for even a split second that goody two shoes luke could fall for the dark side
it's a very important story-telling device for the finale

        >it's a very important story-telling device for the finale
It's a hackneyed add-on that disrupts ANH, and was done because hack Lucas wanted a "big reveal" moment akin to ESB's. If Luke needed a "push" to being tempted to the dark side, there were less egregious ways to accomplish that, which could have been addressed during the Han rescue and with his final talk with Yoda.

nope. if he wanted a big reveal he wouldnt have done it so unceremoniously. it's just a device for the finale. and it fricking works.

Those are not acceptable rationales for why you can't stick to internal continuity in your story. Thanks to Lucas's cowardice, the OT rivals the Bible in being internally inconsistent, but the Bible at least has the excuse of 200 authors and 2000 years of editing.

They could have used the same device using Luke's sister character who is not Leia.

      Anonymous

That was the plan. Luke was going to meet his father in ghost form to complete this training, who would then guide him to meeting his sister, so Leia and Vader would be no relation to Luke.

      Anonymous

Yeah, Lucas should have gone for the original plan that called for a sequel trilogy to tie up the story instead of truncating it into one movie. If he was "tired" of making Star Wars movies he could have just let someone else make them which he ended up doing anyway. Except without them having to tie up themselves into pretzels trying to continue a story that was completely wrapped up in ROTJ already.

I dabbled in it and read a few books but ultimately didn't really care for it. Star Wars fell off hard around '84. You couldn't give it away. Shops had bin bags full of dirt cheap clearance mint SW toys and merch. People started getting excited for it again when the widescreen releases came to VHS, the Zahn novels happened, and all the video games started popping up. From the early '90s onward you could feel Star Wars excitement in the air again. It was a cool time.

You obviously know nothing about what happened in the making of these movies. People who hate on the Ewoks are stupid. The point of the Imperial Garrison's complacency is that the Ewoks don't appear to be any threat. The idea of them being slave Wookies is moronic for the Empire to have any complacency and it would be an asspull for the rebel strike team to use slave Wookie uprising given that the Imperials there would be well aware of the threat of Wookies (as Han Solo points that out directly in dialogue in Star Wars).

There was nothing wrong with the Death Star nor the Ewoks. The Death Star was specifically a clever trap devised by Palpatine to draw in the entire rebel fleet to crush them and it worked. It was only plot armor that allowed them to escape and win the day. The Ewoks were meant to be about not underestimating your enemy.

Just look at this shitty last frame. They look like fricking bums, the costumes look cheap, same with the set. Fricking ewoks are clearly just dwarfs in costumes and Carry Fisher looks worse than any time before.
And to make it even worse the music is shit. It's either the crappy Yub Nub or Victory Celebration, which while fine, it does not fit the visuals.

replace ewoks with slave camps of aliens like duros and rodians

A slave revolt would have been a better trope than a stone age indigene uprising.

I'm just constantly disappointed there's plenty of aliens that aren't just humans with some prosthetic and/or color change but they're shoved to the background because they won't speak english and subs would be too much for most people

Han didn't do anything because there was just nothing left for some smuggler to do.
He should've just been killed at the end of ESB. Leia is a general and the rebellion is in full swing and Luke is now a Jedi. The idea to give Chewie a wookie rebellion would've also been an improvement.

Luke and Han were initially one character. Seems like Lucas should've gone that route instead of splitting the two and making Luke his self-insert.

      >Han didn't do anything because there was just nothing left for some smuggler to do.
It's also weird as frick since he looks like the odd one out when considering the whole saga. Like he's just this average guy getting roped into all this crazy shit.

ROTJ gets more praise than it probably deserves because it has a very strong opening and very strong conclusion. That the second act is boring and stupid matters less than how your movie starts or ends.

    the Death Star over again

It's just kinda lame, and also doesn't make much sense in terms of, how the frick did they mostly finish another death star so fast?

the EU sustained and fed the Star Wars universe; it would have faded into relative obscurity if the Zahn novels hadn't been written, along with all the technical manuals that came after

literally every video game fed off the EU, it's peak normie-reveal to claim the EU didn't matter

Bro the entire franchise sucks, with a few exceptions (such as Rogue One).

I rewatched all the (Lucas) films recently during May 4th. The prequels I had previously only watched once when they originally came out.

For me, it's 4>5>3>1>6>2. Honestly, RotJ's is only worth watching for the Luke/Vader/Palpatine bits.

The writing was on the wall with The Star Wars Holiday Special.

If the prequels weren't good, then the originals were awful. Overrated shit movies.

this type of mindset explains so much of the way modern media is presented, because something was good that means my subversive attempt at undermining and ruining it must also be considered good as well
