The original SAW was unironically a good thriller.
The franchise gets more shit than it deserves.
The first four really had the dirty green green grunge look and the Grey look was cool. 1 was more of a mystery thriller and 2 was good but then 3 seemed like they sidn5 want to continue Matthew's story and just ended it. 5 and up had a weird more indepent but HD look. Spiral probably looks the best since 4 and probably x will
I don't think anyone disputes the value of the first Saw. The blue/green filter was fucking rough but you can chalk it up to the era - the Saw series gets its shit for the same reason most do, it just didn't know when to end.
Saw 1 is pretty good too, it's saw 3 where it's shit. Saw 2 has a few missteps that come from being a script by a guy unrelated to Saw that got forced into being saw 2.

I know everyone kind of agrees that Spiral is the worst, but anyone else think Jigsaw is easily the 2nd worst?
I just rewatched them all in anticipation of X and I just find Jigsaw so much less enjoyable than 1-7. Like 7 has a lot of issues but it's still fast paced enough to prevent the dumb aspects from being a slog.

Yeah, Saw 7 is horrendous and objectively the worst out of the originals, but it feels like it's 15 minutes long, and that's a big plus.
