I thought that was the implication. If it's the mate(I never saw ANYTHING saying this), that would be some crazy misandrist shit with her specifically eating the male rat but staying friends with the female rat.

Did you not fricking read the comic? Thee male rat ignores her and won't speak to her. She warns it to leave and it still ignored her so it got eaten since she hadn't had anything in months (?). Then the girl rat shows up saying she is looking for her mate and Diana tells her what she did

I posted that remark you responded to, and while I agree with most of what you said, I wasn't specifically referring to just that page.
There's this phenomenon among young people, I've noticed when it comes to comic and memes, and they just shut down after 2 paragraphs, as If they never read a book before. Even if a video exceeds 5 minutes long, they can't cope with it.
I was just wondering if that was just me, or have other people noticed? I always see comments like:
                >I cant read all that
                >you expect me to read all that
                >tldr
                >word words words
                Seems weird.

The answer is that you're a redditor, we have a strong anti-essay left memes policy here, and if you didn't know already then I have all the rights to call you and all people like you newbies, newbie.
You know who makes 1 hour videos? Leftists that complain about something being RACIST or TRANSPHOBIC. Lily Orchard made a 2 hours video seething on racism, transphobia in SU of all shows, which is a very woke thing. And if you want me to watch it then you're brain dead to think I have to spend 120 minutes of my life hearing a troony shouting identity shit.
Your claim that is a young people thing is as clueless, the young audience for Quinton reviews stays to watch 20 hours videos or read one of his jokes and needs to wait the 20th chapter for the punchline to appear.
Rightwing memes and videos don't need 2 hours of newage bullshit to say something is shit, we just need 4 words that explain it: Comic Has Rat Vore. That's it.

So you're either pro-essays and so a tumblrite or pro-shorts and so a functional human being like all the people that refuse to look at 15 text balloons that are both ugly and boring.

If you spent your time reading what I wrote here then you're part of the problem.

A cultured jokester tells a joke that needs only 10 seconds to get.
A short simple joke makes more laughs than an essay joke that needs you to search the what it means.
People remember "Yo Mama" but will never remember shitty long jokes like "When the skibo autihelicoptesexual monocloneromantic".
The difference between smart joke and stupid joke isn't how you call salt as sodium chloride, but as you can make a joke anyone can laugh, if it's not then it's a stupid joke even if you put 100 references to Shakespeare.

Comics are a visual medium. Usually King secretly relies on the artist to uplift up his work which is something critics and his reddit fans are entirely blind to, but here, neither King nor Sampere are taking advantage of the medium at all. King is just spewing his annoying, screenplay style, so-minimalist-it-becomes-pretentious dialogue all over the page. Obviously the point of this issue is that Diana is retreating into fantasy as a way of coping with her imprisonment, but there's little to no meaning behind any of the fantasy vistas seen in the issue. The setting changing from page to page becomes nothing more than a gimmick, which means this big double splash page has absolutely zero impact.
Maybe if this page was good prose, there'd be merit to doing something like this. Maybe the idea could have worked had the issue played much more with the juxtaposition between the visuals and the text. But instead the whole thing is simply boring, because it's switching between a bunch of pretty locations as Diana directly tells the reader what's actually happening in reality in King's singular detached and depressed tone. None of this works in practice. The attempt at a character piece is let down even further by having the one significant event of the entire issue be that Wonder Woman has gone so crazy from simply being locked up in a cell that she EATS A LIVE FRICKING RAT. Which, again, is just told to us.

So yeah, this is a terrible page. It's distinctly anti-visual in an entirely visual medium. It's just further evidence (if anyone still needed it) that King mistakenly believes he's a far smarter writer than he actually is. Which is ironic, considering this whole damned issue is about fantasy versus reality.

no one's arguing it isn't a bad page, we're ridiculing anons who are straight up wrong about what happened in the story then saying the correct anons are actually wrong, all because they can't read.

The post I responded to was specifically asking why people were immediately turned off by King's monologue there. It wasn't about the lack of reading comprehension anons were showing upthread over the two rats situation.
Though arguably, the fact that people missed that major plot development that there were two rats (or at least, it's a major plot development in an issue where frick all happens asides from Wonder Woman eating a live rat) indicates that King is pretty clearly doing something majorly wrong if he can't even get people interested enough in his terrible hack writing to just read what amounts to a small paragraph.

Well, that phenomenon in general is more just a result of the internet, and specifically social media.
Social media like Twitter and Facebook encouraged quick, short updates and specifically limited character counts on posts. With those places having become so incredibly prominent as communication platforms, rather than just life blogs, it means communication has shrunk to fit those limits. Instagram and TikTok have the same limits for video. Even this site has a 2000 character limit on posts.
It just means that culturally, people now have less taste for longer pieces of writing. Everything has to be easily digestible on the internet, so if you waste time writing out a big argument, then you get mocked for it. It's why memes are a thing, because they serve as an easy, low-effort shorthand. Just look at getting ratio'd on twitter, or the cheap "whomp whomp" response to a long complaint. To bring it back round to reading, this obviously means that longer pieces of writing are just less appealing to the internet generation.
Not that anyone would actually be able to get anything from King's writing, though.

Funny that it's usually the non-readers piling on the hate train of a book when in this case we were defending it.
Fricking hell, King fricked up with this. Diana eating a live rat, even when she's at this supposed "lowest point" kills all sympathy I, an animal lover, would have for her. I just can't unhear the rat's screams or unsee the terror it would be feeling in those last few seconds as she bit into it.

If King was half as smart as he thinks he is he would have taken influence from that Buddhist story about the rabbit jumping on the fire and have the rat sacrifice itself to save her. Instead of being silent have them talk and build a rapport so it becomes a friendship.

Are these magical rats of some sort? Cause I refuse to believe that any regular rat would have thoughts that deep.

I really find it hard to accept that Diana isn't a vegetarian while being able to talk to animals. It's sort of fricked up otherwise

You ever ask yourself just what animals are saying? They're simple creatures with simple needs. GM'd a D&D game long ago. One of the players was a Cleric and leveled into talk with animals. We looked at the specifics of the ability and he said he wanted it to be that he could understand animals at all times. Okay, fine. So shortly after the party found themselves walking down a forest path on a beautiful. The sun was out and the birds... were chirping. He immediately wanted to know what the birds were saying. So I told him...
SEX! SEX! WANT SEX! FOOD! HUNGRY! WANT FOOD! SEX! FOOD! DO YOU HAVE FOOD!? NO! DO YOU HAVE SEX!? NO FOOD NO SEX!
And on and on it went, because really, just what do you think birds are chirping about?

Yes, but now people are saying it was the rat's mate but I don't see anything saying there were two rats. The whole issue was just in Wondy's head. I thought the fact that the rat is shown to still be alive at the end was proof of this

did you people just not read the issue at all?

King's WW run is probably the only thing by him I like, but his awful habits as a writer hold him back from being good.

What was the point of WW randomly eating a rat?

How was the Sovereign able to imprison her for months in a simple cell that isn't enchanted?

Even more unbelievable is the fact that WW has been missing for months and no one from the JL or the Wonder girls have attempted to find her.

The end very much implies that Scott died when he tried the trick with the bullet and Metron has trapped him in an a makeshift afterlife where escaping would be abandoning Barda and their kids. The final issue is literally a bunch of the New Gods spelling it out that Scott chose not to come back to life when Metron offered it so he could stay in a world with his family.

Technically, you can read it as Scott breaking the cycle of the New Gods. Oberon is the only person who truly congratulates him on it, because it means Scott doesn't have to deal with the endless bullshit of DC Continuity. But you can also read it as "Death is the only way to escape the trap called Family".

Rucka made her explicitly a vegetarian a while ago, I don't recall if she was prior to that probably because most comics don't really show superheroes eating unless they're written by Bendis
