2010s and 2020s easily. The indie scene is especially fucked with hacks like Vivziepop running around.

      > the indie scene is fucked

the great thing about the indie scene is you can just ignore something if you don't like it? The only time I'm exposed to hazbin stuff at all is seeing the constant threads on the catalog here.

The 1950's and 60's was the absolute low point of animation. It was the end of the classic age of animation, and the quality standards for theatrical shorts began nosediving on pure average after WW2. There was more of a reliance of limited and Soviet style of animation in this era, and it's just really embarrassing and depressing to look at. It also had the worst TV animation, although that's frankly to be expected. The best things made in 50's and 60's (example: Disney) were outclassed by their previous efforts. As a whole, it is a very sad era, and there's only a few gems that help redeem it.

70's and 80's is when standards gradually began to improve. TV animation actually became good during the 70's and 80's, and films outside of Disney became a lot better too (I'm also inferring foreign animation when I say this by the way).

2020s: Name 5 shows you think will be remembered fondly 100 years from now. We don't even have any charming rubber hose public domain stuff we can admire for being well animated. 1920 IS BEATING US HARD. That's how bad this decade is for cartoons.

Are any 1920s cartoons rememembers? Stuff like Betty Boop or the early Popeye cartoons are '30s, and nobody but enthusiants knows Koko the Klown or Boscoe.

Probably depends on what you think makes a good cartoon tbh, and every decade has its highs and lows. Typically the 70s/80s are seen as especially bad. The 20s are shaping up to be rough because the big networks are making a sharp veer towards preschooler content and adult animation still struggles with the idea that it can tell a story without falling back on edginess and swears. Indie animation is a coin toss, Vivzie's success is an outlier because she's a nepo baby with a huge fanbase (I also want to point out that A24 is not indie, they basically swept at the last Oscars). A better indicator of whether or not indie animation can thrive will probably be Lackadaisy.
