Would it be possible to successfully combine the elements of a horror movie with a romance/coming of age movie?

Would it be possible to successfully combine the elements of a horror movie with a romance/coming of age movie? Like actually real horror, not just soft stuff? Are there examples?

Why don't we see more genre bending? Is it just too difficult?

I've always thought it would be really something to combine a sitcom with horror. Like get a full 5 or 6 seasons deep into a wholesome comfy sitcom where the audience gets really attached to all the characters and everyone has their favorite characters/relationship arcs on some friends shit. But then in the season finale some funny games shit goes down. And make sure nobody knows it's going to happen.

Such a thing could never be though

One of the many reasons it would never work

One of the only good tranime, Higurashi, is literally that. Whiplashes between sitcom moronation and pure stark terror without any warning. The original visual novel is much better than the tranime thoughbeit.

Big Ass Spider, Suburban Gothic and Night of the Living Deb. All came out around the same time, all got Ray Wise in, all pretty comfy - but not at all scary.

Why not a movie where two violent people fall in love sort of Harry Met Sally style? Something like When JigC Met JigShe.

500 days of summer is already a horror movie

I watched 500 days of summer with my girlfriend thinking it was just a cutesy romance movie and not realizing it was hypergamy propaganda. We broke up 3 days later and she got with another guy immediately afterwards. (or probably was before behind my back anyway idk)

What's extra horrifying is the amount of women who relate to Summer's psychopathic ass. And the message people seem to get is "hurr just because you like someone doesn't mean they're your soulmate™". This idea that there is some perfect partner posting around waiting on you is so fricking destructive. In reality actual love is work and commitment not fleeting "sparks". If course women love this movie that reinforces their awful emotion fueled decision making.

Also, that sucks man but honestly bullet dodged.
