Tony literally did rat on a couple of arab guys and didn't think twice about it

This was an interesting dilemma in the show about what exactly constitutes being a "rat". Like for example Tony obviously considered Paulie talking to Johnny Sack about their business to be ratting, whereas Paulie himself didn't see a problem with it even though he was probably the core crew member who was actually the least likely to rat on the crew to the police.

Talking the the FBI about possible Islamic terrorism in 2005? You get a pass for that. Shared enemies, and you get to bank the goodwill

Yeah absolutely, every last person in Tony's crew would've flipped if the Feds had anything on them, except for probably Furio.

if he survived he would go to prison eventually or keep on trucking until the next assassination attempt.

Criminals usually flip o n each other when faced with harsh enough consequences

I could never imagine him flipping just to save himself from prison. I could only see him ratting on others if it were revenge and only if he were in a position where a lengthy prison sentence was unavoidable.

No he could never bring himself to become that big of a rat. The only other people he could have ratted on were New York bosses and maybe some politicians.

Any guy with a wife and kids would rat. Ironically the guys who probably wouldn't are weirdos/loners like Paulie and Furio, because they literally have no lives outside of the crew.

He already had a plan for his family in case he got locked up. He's not some goomba in over his head like jizz mountain or drinkwater.

He would have lamb chopped it to Elvis country and maybe gotten away with it. Whitey Bulger was on the lamb for like 15 years but he was famously a rat on his enemies.

did he even have any dirt on anybody higher up the food chain than him? can't rat if there's no-one to rat on. I guess they would have reinserted him back into his crew to rat out his subordinates, that's happened IRL, but would they really let him back on the street to finger Paulie and the four or five surviving no-names left in the family?

He was doing two-bit truckjacking deals with Phil but he's dead, does he even have anything on the other bosses who he never interacts with? They certainly wouldn't let him out in exchange for ratting on chumps like Butchie.

Realistically some politicians. Tony is narcissistic so I dont think he wants to go down in history as a bigger rat than sammy the bull or the worst thing to happen to the mafia since gotti.

IIRC he's only got Zellman on the hook and he's just a state assemblyman, doesn't feel like a big enough fish compared to a full blown boss (of a glorified crew but still)

He was friends with Little Carmine who might have been the new boss.

Esplanade. Embezzlement and political corruption. Back when that shit was at least pretended to be taken seriously

Little C got out because he wanted to live and be happy, no way he goes back to the life after Phil's head gets popped like a watermelon in front of his own grandkids

He wouldn't have to rat on other boss, or wear a wire with his crewmates. He could simply tell the feds everything they need to know about the family he's running, so that they can dismantle it and lock up lots of people.

The family he's running is Paulie's crew, whatever kind of half-assed operation Larry Boy can run under house arrest, and Patsy who hates his guts and probably had him popped in the diner. Even when he was in the safehouse during the mob war with Phil, most of his bodyguards weren't even made guys.
You ask me, part of the reason Tony went into a downward spiral after supplanting Junior is because he realized there was nobody he could throw under the bus to save his ass anymore. He knew he'd die old or free, but not both.

You say this only because you're focusing only on named characters in the show. Canonically Tony controls all of NJ, which means that his organization includes LOTS of people.

hard to believe Tony had other capos who never showed up at the Bing or had anything to do with the plot. Two capos puts a hard limit on how many guys the family can manage, not to mention how much gets kicked up to Tony. Shit, by the end oldheads like Paulie and Feech are getting wet over landscaping routes and Tony has to get a loan from Hesh to cover his college ball losses, this was not a big time operation any more.

His glorified crew is dead in a coma or snitches themselves. Only thing that would get him a deal is a New York Boss. He only did business with one family and most their top guys are dead. What does he even have on Butchie.

There's lots of people working for Tony, although I think the series often fails at showing how extensive his organization is.

The Lupertazi family sure but Tony's family were always a glorified crew.

Yeah but the feds dont care about them besides Paulie since they already have Tony by the balls. The feds might shave off some time to have a slam dunk on paulie but the only mobsters higher than tony are the other New York top guys.

They're criminals who frick one another and other people over for short term gain. Of course they'll turn rat if it helps them. They tell one another not to rat so the morons in their group take the heat and leave them out of the consequences. There's no honor here.
