No, we love it tbh. All non-political qualities aside (such as its excellent characterization) its a cartoon about a diverse group of city kids being kids with a some emphasis on immigrant families. My parents moved her from Italy so i always liked that

        No, what the frick lol.
I hate it when adults (from ALL political sides) insert their politics into a kid’s show. Hey Arnold was simply a show about a diverse group of kids in a city environment.

I think this is what I loved about it, its location really set it apart from all other shows. If there really is any kind of political message, it would be that cities can be a great place to raise kids. Although you could say that about any cartoon that takes place in a city like Turning Red for example

They had a closeted gay teacher who hid his relationship due to the politics of the time. There is politics in the show.

Any artist can analyze the pitfalls of capitalism without being anti-capitalist themselves.

I liked the episode where Gerald gets too into selling those watches. He drives Arnold away and gets too greedy with investing in his exponential growth only to completely fill his market and lose his business entirely while still being pressured to sell. It was a great warning against pyramid scams like Mary Kay or Princess House Diningware where they rope people like Gerald in to sell luxury items that after a few green turns hits red once their market runs out (leaving them holding the bag with all the product they have to sell).

Then he sells his entire supply back to his boss after he convinced him that his watches were too good sell in pyramid schemes

I don't think Fantasia, Wizard of Oz, Twin Peaks or Sailor Moon is about how bad capitalism is. Although Oz may have been about bimetallism

And their major contribution to society is writing articles about it. How frequently you think Hannah Borenstein visits the local soup kitchen or Habitat for Humanity site?

Sort of, i love Trailer Park Boys and id say it does have a lot of fun anti-capitalist themes running through it but at the end of the day the boys are shamelessly capitalist. Which does wrap back around into how its (clattenburg seasons) have human portrayels of white trash lumpenproles, fricking OF COURSE they're obsessed with making money thats what being dirt poor does to you. What lefties like with TPB and id say even hey arnold is that its humanizing fringe characters and not just rendering them into one note jokes.

Its the difference between Eugene Horowitz and Mort Goldman. Ones human, one isnt.

The government already forced corporate production of those propaganda cartoons ages ago, where did you think the mandate of "dissenters are always wrong!" came from? What do you want, Helga to beat up Eugene for being a gay antifa? Lame.

It's true, the show often had Arnold fill the role normally filled by a government worker. The cause of people's problems were often societal and those problems wouldn't be solved if it weren't for Arnold. The most positive capitalist thing to say about this that isn't anti-capitalist is the equivalent of those "inspiring: all this child wants for Christmas is funding for his classmates school supplies" articles.

      No, what the frick lol.

I think what gets cast as socialist about it is just the human element that everybody fundamentally agrees is good and should be protected. Everyone but the most arch capitalist elite can recognize that values like neighborhood community, taking people as they are and protecting your home are fundamentally decent. Theyre pre-capitalist ideals everyone can find value in, though of course socialists do find it easier to bake into their messaging because a lot of capitalism's localist elements have dissipated.

I can definitely see it being anti-capitalist. I haven't watched HA since it was actually on TV, but one thing that stands out to me is that it focused very much on basic human goodness, and the only characters that were really without any kind of ability to empathize or partake in that goodness were the ones in high seats of capitalist power.

That said, the position that money and power makes people into psychopaths is not a unique one. It's something agreed on across the political spectrum: people just have different reactions to it.

There could be a shown about poor peasants living under feudalism and it would be political. It's about seeing something that isn't there, it's substantial.
