The last comicbook writer who said this has 2 flop movies with each having 0% on rotten tomatoes. Amazing how fricking stupid these people are.

Because the real test of quality of a comic book writer is box office numbers and rotten tomatoes reviews.

NTA, but speaks volumes as to why the stories are so poor. DC and Marvel pick up the rotten leftovers. The talent simply isn’t there and never will be.

Ewing has repeatedly said he is bad at writing fights which why they usually end quickly or go the metaphor route. He will never keep consistent power levels. He was doing this even before he started catering to stormgays. Plus he tends to wank characters he likes, he is responsible for most of Blue Marvel's "how does that even connect to dark matter" bullshit.

I agree that a difinitive "whose stronger that who" isn't necessary but a general gage on where character stand is important. Readers like consistency and if characters do shit that doesn't make sense they get taken out of the comic.

Ignoring powerlevels and act like they don’t matter at all is how you get poor incoherent inconsistent writing.

It's always been inconsistent, why would that matter now?

Because you can always change and improve. Not doing so shows that you’re a lazy frick who doesn’t give a shit.

You know that Toriyama introduced the concept of power levels just to point out how flawed it is, right? Numbers aren't everything in a fight.

I don’t care about DBZ, but having zero rules is a recipe for a bad narrative.

Yeah, but it's relevant because DBZ is where all this power level bullshit started. People missed the point entirely. You can't just go "oh, this guy wins because he has a bigger number than the other guy".

I don’t fricking care about DBZ. Whether DBZ influenced jackshit or not, you’re a bad fricking writer if you have Thor tank a crumbling mountain but get knocked out by a small rock. That’s fricking stupid and nonsensical, not matter how much you want to defend that.

is right. You can write whoever you want as the winner but do it in a clever way.

          >You know that Toriyama introduced the concept of power levels just to point out how flawed it is, right?

That's the opposite of why he created power levels, post power level dragonball was when every character won due to being stronger not smarter or due to unique abilities, he created a hierarchy set in stone based on power level.

From Raditz it's made clear that power levels are not everything, villains lower their guard every time by relying on numbers.

Most people dropped them. James Gunn admitted no one is reading comics and he’s the new CCO of DC. They’re pretty much ignoring the comics scam “canon” and doing what makes for the characters instead instead of going full schizo.

So you rather DC suffer, ignore facts, assume samegay, and not atleast give Gunn’s universe a chance? Why do people want bad products instead of doing something different.

Thor powerlevels have been incredibly downplayed for the last decade or so at this point. Last time Odin appeared for an event he needed Iron Man armor to fight dark elves.

They've been trying everything to emasculate Thor in every way instead of capitalizing on Chris Hemsworth being popular

Anything can happen if the writer wants it to, power levels and abilities justify how they can happen.

No, that's wrong. The person who decided what happens isn't the writer it's the editor. If something is inconsistent it's their job to tell the writer no.

It shouldn't be so hard to create a consistent power scale. However if you want Spiderman to beat Thanos and for it to make sense, then you're going to have to use your genius and creativity to make it satisfying.

      Anonymous

This. It's not enough to say "any character can beat any character if the writer/editor deems it so, but you have to be able to convince the reader that it was earned and not in any way nonsensical and breaks the rules of that universe, which is where the disconnect comes from so often. Beak being able to fight and win against a random goon is fine, Beak getting his ass beat but managing to trick Taskmaster in a way that allows him to get a win through cunning, tools, and the environment is fine, Beak landing a punch on Thanos where neither of them are affected by some magical or scientific MacGuffin to massively strengthen Beak or massively weaken Thanos and knocking Thanos out is fricking moronic.

That's why it was better when the old scaling system was the standard to every Marvel character, level 1 to level 6 with level 6 being around 100 tons, now Marvel power level variety and difference is just as insane as DC maybe even more nowdays, it's impossible to write it well.
