Seriously, bless that man. I don't really care about the movie, it is just so awesome that Elizabeth spends the entire movie naked and dancing around. A dream come true
He'd already done that with Basic Instinct. This was just taking it up another notch by showcasing a 20-year-old former kids TV star in the buff instead of mid-30s (albeit still smoking hot) Sharon Stone.
His previous "coomerbait," from the same writer, was genuine kino, though. And then he turned around and made the greatness that is Starship Troopers afterward, which has some nudity but is hardly coomerbait coming on the heels of Showgirls and Basic Instinct.
but Showgirls IS kino
No, it's not. But it's also far from being as bad as it's often accused of being. It's just mediocre.
That and basic instinct are probably making good money for him to this day.
Showgirls bombed in theater. But made truckload of money on vhs. Espesily rental. I think it was most rented movie at one point. I'm sure that and basic instinct are doing well in streaming. So the keep making money. Whitout getting remake treatment. Unlike carpenter movies. Where he makes bank just from remakes they make from his movies.
The 4K UHD versions of both need to come stateside (they've been released in Europe).
>But made truckload of money on vhs. Espesily rental.
Unfortunately, Showgirls had to be censored for Blockbuster.
>Whitout getting remake treatment. Unlike carpenter movies.
You do know both Basic Instinct and Showgirls got sequels, right? Neither Verhoeven nor Joe Eszterhas had anything to do with either, however (Eszterhas, at least will have gotten royalties for use of the characters, though).
It's Paul Verhoeven. Do you really have to ask that? Have you watched any of his other well-known films from same timeframe? Was RoboCop not at least partly satire? Is Starship Troopers not? Total Recall? Even Basic Instinct has it, although it's mostly somewhat more subtle.
He was thinking about something I also often think about: breasts
The same thing everyone who went to see it was thinking about: Jessie from Saved By the Bell showing EVERYTHING. It delivered everything it promised.

having fun at the studio's expense
i already got the gore audience, now i got to haul in the coomers
he already did that with basic instinct
which you will enjoy much more

he was thinking "I want to make an accurate documentary of Las Vegas, and I'll add in a kooky plot with a prostitute to string it along"
more like
>i want to make a film about hollywood's vampire elite
>better set it in vegas to throw off the je...wolves
what does hollywood or israelites have to do with anything?
The only thing they were fighting over was who could be a bigger prostitute
Anon... I...
excellent non-answer
Whoever design this movie poster is a genius. Everything about it is soo perfect. The mystery, allure, simplicity. 10/10
>Behold! A worm!
The movie was pretty fun. Can't imagine anyone that enjoys Verhoevens sensibilities not enjoying this film.
>Wtf was Verhoeven thinking?
same think lynch was, got so butthurt over critics he stopped making kino and just focused on coomerbait
but Showgirls IS kino

It is kino. You just have bad taste. Jacques Rivette opinion on showgirls > average drive loving kubrick fanboy opinion on showgirls.
>kubrick fanboy
Swing-and-a-miss
Dude is pervert. He made his name doing movies for masses. Then went to do what he wanted. Coomer movies. Dude is still doing them.
Literally
>what if I did a showtime softcore porno with the girl from Saved by the Be
Literally
>what if I did a showtime softcore porno with the girl from Saved by the Bell
You zoomers have no idea how revolutionary showtime softcore porn was. Ask your moms about red shoe diaries.
Great film. Only redditors with shitty taste hate it.
Showgirls is a cautionary tale for woman that's more relevant now than it was in 1995. I give it a solid 7.5/10, its Verhoeven's third best flick.
t. dolphin fricker
>coomer makes coomer movie
Such a good poster. The pic. Not the OP. OP is once again a homosexual.
Elizabeth Berkley is such a true artiste that she got naked for the poster and promotional materials.
very nice

Verhoeven is a master of creating controversy for all the right reasons. Basic Instinct is still making people REEEEEEE at the mere mention of it.

"Bitches leave"
He did nothing wrong.
Is it really satire as some claim?

"I'm about to make pure kino and completely filter plebs"
They're seething to this day too
