WWE Chris Benoit Biopic Crossface Was Shut Down by Benoit Family Says Son

Crossface, the planned biopic about notorious pro wrestler and double murderer Chris Benoit, has been shelved. According to Benoit's son David, who has pro wrestling ambitions of his own, the movie was scrapped after the Benoit family saw the screenplay.

As explained by David in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, the filmmakers needed the family's permission to move forward with the Chris Benoit project, but the Benoits rejected the proposal as the movie would have depicted the infamous tragedy.

"There was a director, everything bro. We had to step in because they wanted to do the tragedy about how it all went down. So we said no," David explains, adding that the Benoit family even hired a lawyer to assist in getting the project shut down. He added: "They needed our permission. She sent us the script and then the end was the whole murder/suicide was gonna be all in it. We said no." Making it clear that having portraying the details of the tragedy on the big screen was off the table, David also says that the family wouldn't be opposed to seeing a new documentary about his father getting made, noting he has lots of home video footage to offer.

why do boomers like wrestling so much

my dad is 51 and in his free time he watches old wrestling matches on youtube

I'm guessing it's a combination of there not being a ton of entertainment opportunities when they were younger and the fact that wrestling used to be a lot better than it is now.

Wrestling today isn't nearly as entertaining as it was 15 years ago, so it just makes sense that it's an old person's sport and young people aren't into it. You think young people are going to turn off TikTok for half an hour to watch Roman Reigns?

The real reason is that people younger than boomers have something else that serves the exact same purpose as pro wrestling: anime. Shounen anime specifically.

I loved watching overpaid and over the hill wrestlers cut promos on eachother back when WCW was in it's prime and battling monday nights with WWF in the late 90's.
Because when you're with the NWO, you're with the NWO for life brother and when you love the NWO, you love the NWO 4 life and that's just too sweet brother.

Wrestling's awesome. It's on all year round. You get to see people beat the crap out of each other. You get to see hot women and there's a bunch of different genres of entertainment in it.

I mean kudos to the family for not just saying yes for quick cash, but his legacy is ruined, the murder suicide overshadows anything he did in wrestling. Just watching his old matches is hard to push it to the back of your mind.

I wouldn't go that far, that just seemed like them cancelling Chris Benoit before we had a word for it. If a wrestler said something transphobic they'd also be wiped from the archive. Killing your family is a cancel worthy offense tho

There's no real rabbit hole. Heavy steroid abuse and a lot of head trauma making him more unstable is one of the main reasons why it gets swept under the rug so easily though
Hell, you can see the fall of juiced up wrestler numbers after his death

Steroid use was overstated. His head trauma was the real issue. Guy had the brain of an elderly dementia patient.

        >There's no real rabbit hole.
Hmm maybe it's true but I stumbled upon some youtube channels with like 50+ of atleast 15 minute long videos that explain some shady stuff surrounding the murder suicide. Like the contaminated murder scene but I didn't really go deeper into it past that. So he had CTE? I wonder how Mankind didn't get CTE cos he was getting injured all the time.

        This

Autopsy on his brain showed he had massive brain damage and dead areas. Equivalent to an 85 year role with dementia.

Probably more to do with the years of taking blows to the head from chairs and shit rather than steroids. Benoit never shielded himself from head blows like most wrestlers do

No. People made up this shit about his son having fragile X and Chris injecting him with roids but that's just sensationalism. Chris did inject steroids into a moronic fan they invited backstage when he wrestled in Calgary, though.

          Anonymous

What is the point of injecting a moronic fan with steroids once?

To get a laugh out of the other wrestlers in the back. They do wierd shit like that. Chris Jericho told a story once where Benoit and him had a hotel room next to a bunch of rowdy fans who were playing wrestling all night making a shit load of noise. One of them threw a shoe out in the hallway and Benoit grabbed it and took it back in his room. In the morning, he took a shit in the shoe and threw it back in the hall. When the fans found the shoe they were absolutely disgusted, and Benoit cackled like a mad man listening to their reactions from inside his room.
