'X-Factor' Pays a High Price for Fame, Fortune, and Power

>While the X-Men’s mission forces them to work outside the law, certain teams have found ways to fight for mutant rights within the system as officially sanctioned strike forces!

>In the upcoming From the Ashes era, that tradition continues in a new volume of X-FACTOR from Eisner winning writer Mark Russell (FANTASTIC FOUR: LIFE STORY, The Flintstones) and acclaimed X-Men artist Bob Quinn (CAPTAIN AMERICA, KNIGHTS OF X).

>Formed by the government in response to a post-Krakoa outbreak of mutant paramilitary, ops squads, and mercenary teams, X-FACTOR will be co-led by Angel and Havok and include recruits like Pyro, Frenzy, Feral, and more. Part special agents for missions that require an arsenal of superpowers and part celebrity propaganda machine, X-FACTOR will wage war against emerging factions like the Mutant Underground and X-Term.

>Whether they believe in their actions or are just doing it for a check, the members of X-Factor are no fools when it comes to shady politics. As hidden agendas rear their ugly head, they’ll fight against the dark consequences and disastrous public opinion from the inside!

>FAME, FORTUNE, MUTANTS! From the ashes of Krakoa, a new mutant arms race sweeps the globe! International governments are building their own mutant armies. But only America’s X-Factor has the most powerful, most patriotic, most marketable mutant heroes to stem the tide and make the world safe for democracy! Join them as they go from one death-defying mission to another. Who will die? Who will fall in love? Who will be the first to sell out? Like, comment and subscribe to find out!

“The thing I've always loved about the X-Men is that they're characters first, Super Heroes second,” Russell shared. “So being able to write characters like Havok and Angel and Frenzy in a post-Krakoa reality is an opportunity to write about what I really care about, which is how do we help each other survive the apathy of the world we live in?”

“It’s so exciting to be back and drawing mutants in the X-Men universe again, and doubly exciting to work with Mark again,” Quinn added. “To my mind, Mark’s mix of humor and ability to shine a light on the peculiarities of modern society make him the perfect writer to tackle the relaunch of X-FACTOR. Drawing this team and every unexpected twist and turn of the story has been a blast so far, and I can’t wait for readers to get their hands on it.”

    >Mutant sellouts or mutant role models? You be the judge! Check out the main cover and preorder X-FACTOR #1 at your local comic shop today!

cont. either that, or Bendis scenario, ie. one big nothingburger. There is this unspoken rule that every time someone associated with Avengers tries doing X-Men (like Mark Waid), it's either cancelled/abandoned, or simply padded before they move onto something else

He has tenure/seniority at editorial. He's not going to go anywhere. What most likely happens is they retool again back to the mansion and Xavier once this entire line flops.

yeah, which also means that he can fricking retire already, he doesn't have to edit books for too long, which he himself admitted in one of his write-ups

Shame, that was the only thing I was even a little bit interested in. Man, this X-Line-Up is absolutely dreadful. It's like those Post-SW/Pre-HiX-Men days. You know, I just got done reading PAD's X-Factor run the other day. That was pretty damn great, even with all the X-Frickery of that era that tried (and succeeded once or twice) to get in its way and the insane level of cast bloat. There was not a single character that I honestly hated getting their own panel time, and even the recurring secondaries were fun (especially Reverend John Maddox, what a fun use of Madrox's dupes). I can see why this one ran for a hundred issues.

    >Pyro: "former" mutant terrorist
    >Frenzy: "former" mutant terrorist
    >Feral: "former" mutant terrorist, also as her name indicates she's feral and wild

I don't think Angel's crimes as Archangel are public knowledge, as far as the public is concerned he's an attractive rich heterosexual white man from a respectable family and who looks like an angel. Everyone else is indeed suspect, although maybe not Havok, he was an Avenger once which probably means something in-universe.

I have absolutely no idea why we're still stuck with people like Frenzy or Pyro playing 'hero'. It's not like these characters have insane fandoms like Magneto or Emma do that are keeping them in a role they don't belong in and don't work in. Just get them back to being villains already.

        Anonymous

Frenzy and Pyro went through actual character arcs where they reformed, why should they go back to being villains when there's already tons of other villains just because muh status quo? And I disagree that they don't work as heroes, Frenzy has been more interesting since she reformed than she ever was a villain. And Pyro may not have an insane fandom, but he is one of the most iconic X-Men characters, having been in several movies, cartoons and games.

          Anonymous

Yes, anon. There's tons of other X-Men villains, you can have human strawman bigot villains, robot villains, alien villains, or Mojo. But you can't have mutant villains anymore because muh reformed villains muh character development.

And being a Z-list X-Men member who's yet another woman simping for Cyclops of all people is not more interesting than being an unapologetic villain. As for Pyro, making it into a lot of adaptations does not mean "iconic", but him making it into those adaptations as a villain does mean he should be a villain.

            >But you can't have mutant villains anymore because muh reformed villains muh character development.
What the frick are you talking about? There's still plenty of mutant villains. Even with villains who were on Krakoa, most of them never really reformed, they simply took a break from committing crimes. Characters like Sabretooth, Mystique, Sebastian Shaw, Selene, Gideon, Mastermind, Lady Mastermind, Azazel, Emplate, Mesmero, Mentallo, Genocide, Omega Red, etc. are all either already back to their old ways, never actually stopped, or will do so inevitably.
Having 2 less villains won't hurt anybody. And I disagree that just because Pyro is a bad guy in most adaptations he has to be a bad guy in the comics.

I'd like them to bother exploring Lorna's relationship with daddy and her "siblings" since they've barely ever done that. We still have no idea about her mom's whole deal with Magneto. Wanda and Lorna interacted like twice in the 15 years or so they were sisters, and then in Krakoa they're loving "sisters."

Thought it was interesting how Resurection of Magneto has a very specific reference to Lorna's mom and her death. Maybe they'll actually explain that

I don't want that because Wanda and Pietro need to stop being treated like they're Magneto's kids. That retcon was moronic in the first place but at least then they hated him.
Now they're trying to play happy family with them to wash away the terrible shit he did to them while they were part of the brotherhood. And all of it only exists to pander to non-fans that want a happy Magneto family

I agree that Wanda and Magneto suddenly loving each other was also random and sudden. The same thing happened with Polaris and Magneto. At least Wanda being his daughter had an explanation and a reunion; Lorna just randomly got a DNA test, and Magneto coincidentally made her his heir. And then he was dead, and even when he was alive they never really interacted. I don't think they ever bothered to write a genuine confrontation with that, everyone just accepted she was his daughter

At least Quicksilver still hates him.

That's just it, the parentage stuff has not improved their characters in anyway, but non-fans don't care because they want a big happy family.
They should just wash their hands of it and be done with it

Havok's X-Factor teams have always been the lamest X-Factor teams.

I think I might’ve been mistaking Feral for Wofsbane for several years
