i like how obvious this bait is but Cinemaphile will fall for it
yeah it's worded like bait but I'm genuinely asking. I'm on the second episode now and it's just an okay show so far. I can't see why it garnered such a big following.
is it just the Seinfeld effect?
I see. I guess I had to be there
It was a different time.
It really was a different time. It never really gets that good, but I do enjoy a lot of the monster of the week episodes. I also love Gillian Anderson. It's a very comfy show.
t. 25 year old elder zoomer
You're zillennials. Face it, you're not young anymore.
I definitely don't feel young, but apparently 97 is the cutoff for zoomers so I guess I'm a zoomer. Generations are pretty much made up anyway.
>97 is the cutoff for zoomers
Only according to corporations and the lamestream media. In reality, 1993-1999 are zillennials.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zillennials
>butthurt zoomers create their own made up word to avoid being labeled as such
Kek.
>t. zoomie jealous of his zillennial superiors
So the whole thing I based around 9/11? Pathetic.
Thank god i was born in 2001 so im not part of this cringe term.
Generation Zyklon is king btw. Frick boomers and frick millenial hipster homosexuals that ruined everything. It's going to take a while but we're going to fix this mess and our grandchildren will think of us as gods.
You just have a cringe existence instead.
>ynr the tattoo episode
it was on earlier today on comet. scully deserved cancer after that. too bad the schizo didnt throw her in the furnace.
For you? Never.
Get a time machine and watch it in '94
it started out on friday nights so only losers and nerds knew about it
until they moved it to sundays and it blew up
Record it on VHS in '94. Label everything meticulously and fill an entire shelf with cassettes. Now go to Blockbuster and invite the cute 20 year old student who works there to come and watch them with you. Don't forget to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and leave a few pouches of Capri-Sun in the fridge.
Now get on Usenet and subscribe to every newsgroup related to government conspiracies and the paranormal, particularly aliens. Join your local BBS and start posting long rants about how "the truth is out there". Construct a tactical tin-foil hat to protect yourself from the subspace waves that the ayylmaos transmit to implant thoughts in your brain.
After a while your friend Brett will introduce you to cannabis for the first time and you will relax. You'll still believe all the stuff about aliens, but it won't really feel so bad. Star Trek Voyager will air and you'll begin to wonder if there are benevolent aliens out there who will help protect us from the bad ones. You'll also discover the band Incubus, and get very stoked when S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is released.
Boomer here. X-Files is boring. You don't have to like it to fit in.
Are Mulder and Scully the cutest couple in the history of Cinemaphile?
Season 1 is a bit rough, I think season 2 starts to get better and by season 3 you're right into the best stuff.
It's dated, but not in a way that hurts it. I fell in love with the show when I was 15 in 2008, and when I rewatched the show in full last year I fell in love all over again and even came to appreciate things I didn't like about it before. If you don't like it you don't like it.
I've never got this show or the argument that "muh zoomie brain doesn't get kino". Bullshit. I'm an '03 zoomer but I watched like 2 1/2 seasons and was seriously disappointed. I grew up on shit like M.A.S.H/TOS/TNG/DS9/Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks. Shows like that and I'd always hear about how cool X-files was, to the point where I started imagining all the cool stories that there would be involving aliens and government secrets. My parents would never let me watch it when I was younger, and when I finally got around to it I was like 15 and was disappointed. I can see the comfy appeal but most times it was just underwhelming and cliché, and I know they weren't the ones to make these clichés because I'd seen them in older shows and movies. So, OP, don't believe people when they say you don't get it, it's just not for you. Same thing happened with "Monk" but it's just worse "Psych"
What kind of psycho displays donuts like that??
>I'm a natural born wienersucker.
I love the X-Files and think it's one of the best shows of the 90s, but I understand why some people find it boring.
Fringe did the X-Files better than the X-Files (but replace aliens with parallel universes).
>Fringe
Bleh.
In season one alone they managed to make a poor mans version of the thing, and a poor mans version of HAL 2000 but in an office building, and thats just off the top of my head.
I really do want to like the show since Gilian is so fine, but I would much rather watch SG1 or some other "grounded" Sci-fi show.
>she so fine
you sound like a Black person. if you don't like the show for what it is, you don't like it. no one cares what you want to jerk off too.
why would I ever jerk off to a woman when I could just have sex with one?
Why would you sit through a show you don't like becuse it has an actress you find attractive in it? You're like a zoomer street shitter.
you are literally me, and you are of course correct. I watched 2 seasons of Twin Peaks and while their chemistry is good, but the episodes are fairly dull and the plots are often uninspired. Its like a heterosexual version of Supernatural but less fun.
Never, don’t listen to the boomers on Cinemaphile.
i am a 32 year old boomer watching Season 1 for the first time as well, it's pretty obvious that it's going to be campy but the acting is very strong and it's not boring enough to stop watching. the one thing i don't like is how most of the cases are resolved by the end of each episode, although that's just how shows used to be back in the day, the heros always prevail.
>i am a 32 year old boomer
have a nice day
The pilot and season 1 are pure kino. Especially the mythology episodes which gradually got worse with later seasons. But if you can't recognise the first few episodes for the pure gen x, paranoia kino that they are, then the show is probably lost on you.
Mid 30s millennial, but nihilistic gen x-er in spirit.
Whats your favorite monster od the week episode? mine was Ice
>we are not who we are
or Hungry, the one with the fast food vampire guy
I would love to be a glowie in the early 90s driving an old tauraus with a glock looking at shit
I've actually given some thought to making an extremely pared-down edit of the show, since perhaps the biggest problem with the series is that there's an unreal amount of mostly-crappy filler
cutting the show down to
>episodes that move plot(s) forward
>episodes that contain events/people/etc. that are referred to in plot-relevant episodes
>episodes referring to actual real-life conspiracies
>the occasional filler episode that is actually good
would make it a much better overall experience
The MOTW stuff is the meat and potatoes of the show, though, especially from season 2 onward. Even some of the first season's best episodes are MOTW. They were 20 episode seasons so they weren't all winners, but the show had a much higher hit rate than you make it sound.
Depends on what you're looking for out of the show. I wouldn't begrudge your enjoyment of most of the side-story episodic content, but I think the sheer amount of it hurts the shape and pace of the series as a whole, if you want to approach the series from a continuous-narrative perspective. You might be right that the way I presented it was incomplete or not charitable enough.
Anyway, I firmly believe Skinner should have way more screentime as a fraction of the overall.
Jesus frick this thread.
have a nice day.
Total zoomer death
> t. Chad gen xer.
Based. Frick millennials and zoomers. Zillennials are the only good generation post-Gen X.
you were 5 years old when Wind Waker came out you homosexual, that isn't your game and it never will be. it belongs to millennials.
I will concede that game was technically before my time. I put it there because the Gamecube's popularity lasted until late 2007/early 2008 when the Wii started to get big, and many of us continued playing Gamecube games like WW throughout the 2000s. It also helps that there were Youtube video walkthroughs of those old games which we got addicted to.
>YouTube walkthroughs
totally soulless, when Wind Waker came out most people didn't even know about GameFAQs yet and we had to figure it out on our own or buy a $40 player's guide.
It's a millennial game, but we got the last remnants of its relevance. It doesn't really matter anyway, the point of the meme is that people born in the 90s have a shared cultural experience. No brother wars.
we don't, i started gaming on 2D consoles and i started watching movies on VHS tapes. the only rewinding you ever did was on a youtube video. when i was a kid it was common for people to not have internet and i didn't find out what a cell phone was until i was 16 or 17.
>i started watching movies on VHS tapes
I did too, actually. I was watching 90s Disney movies on VHS back in 2003-2004. DVDs were already outselling VHSes by then, but VHSes were still something people used until around 2008. The last VHS (A History of Violence) came out in 2006.
>when i was a kid it was common for people to not have internet
I didn't really start using the Internet until my later childhood, which probably does set me apart from you since you likely spent your entire childhood without the Internet (or at least with only dial-up) but playing outside was still something we did. I can definitely relate a lot more to my siblings born in the early 90s than I can to some kid born in the late 00s who spent their entire childhood watching Elsagate videos on their mommy's iPad.
Of course all this is just my personal experience. I can't speak for everyone my age. But all my friends had a similar experience too.
Reminder everyone born after 1989 is a homosexual or a cuck.
one off. rip. this could have been the most significant post of your life.
you dont belong here gayoot
based
>people born in the 90s have a shared cultural experience.
Not really. Someone born in 1991 will likely have more in common with someone born in 1987 than they do someone born in 1997. They're just digits. $19.99 is also closer in price to $22 than it is $17.50, but people tend to place undue significance on the first digit. There's nothing special about decades as blocks of time.
>most people didn't even know about GameFAQs
and that was a good thing. look at it now.
yeah now it's saturated with late 90's and early 00's births who have a mental breakdown when they see "toxic" posts because they were raised on the moderated internet as opposed to the raw internet.
Then you have homosexuals like this who thjbk they're really cool and tough and that they have everything worked out, all while flaunting their ignorance.
i was a cool dude on GameFAQs, on my regular boards i was a respected poster. i also had three troll accounts because i was a fun guy, zoomers and zillennials think that's toxic.
Dont give him shit he saw the truth. Shits get hazier the more you go toward the early 80s. In the end what matters is that you recognize how fricking shit everything that came post ~2005 is, and how people who gre up only on that can only have a rotten mind.
true even average movies and shows from the 90s are lightyears better than todays
I rewatched Babylon 5's 1st episode not too long ago. There was as much plot in that single episode as in the entire first season of GoT. Shit was bleak.
Reminder this show never named the israelite
naming the shadow government israelites was too on the nose for fox or for anyone who didnt want to be murdered.
Just watch the monster of the week episodes.
Just go back
It still holds up, yes.
Don't understand gays who say she looks better now, she hasn't aged well and looked way better when she was younger.
>she hasn't aged well
yes she has she is almost 60
2002 peak.
As of now I am closing the XX-Files.
peaks in season 3 but from todays perspective no, the main arc never really gets good
This is why I only like it from a monster of the week perspective, knowing as I do now that the main plot just meanders for like 15 seasons and never really goes anywhere.
