      >calls himself a "comedian"
      >gets offended over the indian managing a convenient retail stereotype

That would be like Dave Chapelle being offended that Simpsons had an African American kid character with no father figure in the household and that being a running joke in the series.

      Fricking Pajeets

What's sad is that, while I do think aspects of Apu could be seen as offensive and I believe that Kondabolu did actually have some problems with the depictions, he was a nobody in the entertainment industry who tried to hitch himself to controversy for notoriety and it failed him on multiple fronts. It didn't turn him into a celebrity like he thought it would. It hurt his relationship with industry officials and other key players while limiting potential deals because they saw it as a Hollywood hit-piece. It brought attention to the issue, but in the wrong capacity, decrying it rather than bringing attention it and forcing the Simpson's crew to overplay their hand. It's like he pushed the issue just because he thought he knew what would happen, but it just made everything worse for everyone while frustrating everyone in process. Even worse is, Kandabolu has seemingly attempted to make amends with the Simpson crew, even thanking them for specific changes, but they just ignored him like the whole industry now does.

It's not even a stereotype, it's the fricking reality, you can't make shit up about them because whatever you think is in fact several times worse in reality.

Wasn't this doc literally just about exmanning about how Indians are portrayed in media and only using Apu as a starting off point
And both libs and conservatives just started screeching and yelling thinking it was CANCELLING Apu or some shit. It's like getting rid of Cleveland Brown's original voice actor, no one asked for that. It was over corrective corporations and bullshit like that

yeah, didn't he also shit on Short Circuit even though the actor did travel to India and got voice lessons from Indians? And they made the second movie about hard it is for an Indian to succeed in the US and become a citizen? I think it might also be the only romance between an indian man and a white woman.

Black actors were some of the biggest defenders of songs of the south yet Disney decided the film was too offensive.

i remember black people saying that offensive shit was needed 'cause ignoring it just perpetuates stereotypes and segregates communities. That shit exists for a reason after all.
Ironically this Apu fiasco did that, it segregated voice acting to the point Indian people can now just voice act Indian stereotypes. Congrats.

You gotta look at the context of the production of the film that makes the issues more glaring. Like, Walt hired on a crew of consults for the film, including some black people and some sociologists who looked at Walt's script and told him that while touchy, if he avoided depicting specific stereotypes and focused on the American-Spirit aspect (that Walt had already kept emphasizing as the point of the picture) that it should be fine but then Walt specifically ignored specific things they had warned him about because it didn't fit his vision for the film that nobody but him saw. Even during the time period, look at some of the articles and the ones not just trying to stir the pot (like the issues with actor segregation throughout all of Hollywood) actually mention the half-hearted attempt Walt had made to make this a socially acceptable picture, showing he understood the problems people had with it but just didn't care. That in and of itself is part of the reason Disney has distanced themselves to far from it, not just because of the mild offenses within the film, but how it's production actually depicts Walt in a negative light. All the other projects, you can claim it was a different time or that you learned, but when you have a recording admitting that it was 'wrong' and you still did it anyway? The only way to hide that is to bury the film entirely.

its a shame though. brer rabbit, bear and fox are among the few purely black created cartoon characters at the Disney parks and they are about to get removed in favor of mostly white made characters. Princess and the Frog had what, 2 or 3 black people among 30 or so white people directing, writing, managing, etc? The movie was commissioned by what, mostly white disney execs? Vs the brer stories made by black slaves based on folk stories from their home countries?

Song of the south is kind of trash though. Not even for racist reason. But like, its a live action disney movie from 1946 and most live action disney flicks from the 40s and 50s are just bland

qrd? I ignored all this shitstorm when it happened and now I'm curious. Who's the pajeet? I asume he's a third generation "indian" that wormed his way into the producer's/writer's room and demanded they remove apu for being a stereotype. How far am I?

      Anonymous

he didn't worm his way in, he isn't involved in the show at all he just made a youtube video where he complained about apu being a stereotype and that he was voiced by a hispanic actor instead of an indian one
the video went viral cause indians will watch literally anything with indians in it, so the simpsons removed apu from the series
as far as i know he hasn't done anything else of note

A while back, one of the early showrunners or writers of The Simpsons was doing an interview on NPR, and he said that a lot of the shows Indian fans loved Apu. One reason was because he was the only representation they had at the time, and another was because he was one of the few people in Springfield who genuinely cares about his job.

he was also just a good man
think of how many episodes feature apu as the voice of moral reason
i feel like anyone claiming apu is a 1 dimensional stereotype hasn't actually watched the show
in fact he was one of if not the first side character that had a lot of character development on the show, even entire episodes that center around him

It's funny how his complaint boils down to the fact that Apu was the only Indian character on any tv show at the time, therefore he came to mind first when whites interacted with Indians. He should've been b***hing at all the other studios for having zero Indians, rather than the one that did.
