Why again old tired 1920s aestetics?
1st film looked like that because if was literally from 1920s. It was their now-present. Since then nobody dared to make another now-present version.
Bram Stoker's Dracula worked because it was written like a police or news report. People could feel presence of Dracula as it wasn't a story taking place 200 years ago. It was set in 1800s just as released.
These monsters will never be relevant again if they are stuck in the past that is so far away it's basically fairytale.

This. Another flop incoming. Recent version of The Invisible Man proved that you have to break out of period settings if you want to make monsters relevant. They are so stuck in that era it is almost like a parody at this point.
That's why they were replaced by dumb slashers like Halloween or Friday 13th. Studios now clearly don't understand that.

This, just make Nosferatu a misunderstood gay queer Romanian immigrant who has to face discrimination and racism in modern days.
Leave the audience guessing: "Who was the real monster all along? A lonely vampire or systemic racism?"

I think it's more about settings than themes. Keep original themes but make it look like the action takes place right now, behind the corner. That's what made Dracula so relatable. He was a fictionalized image of Jack The Ripper - big threat in London at the time of Dracula's release.
If you place action of your movie or book too far in the past it's just nothing more than an old tale. Bram Stoker knew it and thats why Dracula takes place in 1890s and now 100-200 years earlier.

          Anonymous

You can't extract the tale from its setting. It works precisely because it's set in this era, with its limitations and atmosphere.
If you set it modern times and someone was to wipe out an Iphone to make a Nosferatu tiktok the magic is gone.

You can. Terminator is bascially a modern take on Frankenstrin but instead of 1800s it takes place in 80s and at the time of the release it was again relevant and not some sort of 200 years old mumbo jumbo.

          Weak post.
A good writer would be focused on figuring out how to keep the creepiness of vampires in a way that's relevant to the modern age.

The inability of artists to express themselves in a contemporary setting is a flaw that creates work that's inherently disconnected from its audience. Doing it repeatedly implies that the author has nothing to say about real life, or is at least disconnected from the common man.
I'm not saying period dramas are bad, but contemporary pieces are naturally more worthwhile. It's my biggest (maybe my only) criticism of Paul Thomas Anderson as well.

we're living in a fake world where anyone moderately critical of anything is silenced and canceled. That's why all contemporary pieces are so fricking bad.

Too Old to Die Young is kino

                Anonymous

Nosferatu, and by extension Dracula, were contemporary pieces at the time of their releases. They just happened to be released in early 1900s but they were still talking about same era and not something set in 19700s that would feel already too far for 1900s. If you want another example, let's say take Halloween or Texas Massacre but set it back in 1800s. They wouldn't have that big impact anymore.
That's why these monster movies fail. People associate them with old times that are so disconnected they no longer care about. Meanwhile dumb slashers like Halloween are again making bucks. Studios slept on a chance to update them. They were always stuck in 1920s or 1930s even up to 1970s Hammer films.
