You know what?

I actually like overexaggerated, wacky faces in Modern SpongeBob seasons.

Reminds me of Ren and Stimpy.

Lot of people don't want to admit it but Ren & Stimpy blood was baked into SpongeBob since its first season

The only reason why it's fine is because it just isn't the same show anymore. If all these WACKY faces would be in a new IP there would be way more praise than just 'ah well it's better than season 5-9'

Of course it's not the same show, the creator is literally dead. Do people expect anything besides cartoons to stay literally the same

Why do people keep trying to convince others that Spongebob is good again when it's just as mediocre as it was 15 years ago.
Only now it has different problems that didn't plague the middle seasons

Forced assessment. Nobody cared about those seasons because they weren't doing anything special

Shows are a team effort you John K wienersucker. My point is that at this point they should just kill Spongebob and make something new with more room for cool ideas

I spend my time discussing Catholic creative philosophy, I just come to cartooning discussions to encourage things to be better for kids despite wankers like yourself sounding off for a better wank later

"Cool ideas" = bad imitations of SpongeBob, anime, and some other things almost always

Still it irks me that the Driving School Boat was retconned to be a school for kids rather than a school for adults which it makes Spongebob looks like a student who didn't finish Elementary-School.

That doesn't even make sense, kids don't go to driving school.

What the frick?! When did this happen, is there a specific episode .
It’s so weird how adamant Nick is about stuff like this, I’ve heard that they make school settings basically a requirement for getting a show picked up.

You'll notice in later episodes that the school now has kids as opposed in the older episodes where it had adults.

The boating school only exists in the first place because Nick wanted Spongebob to go to school even though Hillenburg specifically intended for him to be an adult, so I guess they've finally come full circle.

You're complaining about some rare attention to detail and continuity in Spongebob. If there were still a ton of adults in Mrs Puff's class after all these years then that would make it seem like the entire (extremely small) population of Bikini Bottom is just as terrible at driving as Spongebob. The show is episodic but time does pass, albeit very slowly. Spongebob is so uniquely bad at driving that he's probably now sharing classes with the children of his classmates from season 1.

These work in the context of Mrs. Puff commiserating with others about what a nightmare Spongebob is. When the show does this sort of thing normally, it just feels off. They show was a lot more laid-back in the earlier seasons and I feel like the newer staff lost that appeal.

One of the artists for nu-Bob visited Cinemaphile expecting praise and stuff, then became confused and irate when people told him the grotesque direction is missing the appeal of old Spongebob. He provided animation cells and sketches that appeared in whatever the next episode was, so we know he wasn't just some LARPer.

I should really look into whoever was doing the work for that season of Spongebob, it was around 2012 or 2013. I imagine I'd find some israeli israelite name, and that's probably who was posting here.

I'm sure drawing goofy faces is entertaining for him but SP became famous for being well-written with timeless jokes. The faces were just supporting the joke. Not the entire joke.

How are jokes about annoying coworkers at a fast food restaurant timeless. What about if robots man fast food restaurants, that'll be it

Your demand for cartooning to merely support dialogue shows you're not in cartoons for the cartoons

            >artists for nu-Bob visited Cinemaphile expecting praise and stuff
You kidding me right? Have they watch old spongebob and compare it to new spongebob. They should have known that overly exaggerated and close up details in early season of Spongebob were used sparringly and only at appropriate parts.

            So, it improved

    >Modern SpongeBob
OP, how long are you going to live in your fantasy world? There is no "modern" Spongebob. The cartoon was never good. Spongebob was always a crybaby. The cartoon was always gross. The cartoon is rich in memes now as it was then. Spongebob hasn't "gotten worse", you've gotten older.

From what I recall season 1 SpongeBob was more mature, because back then he was just a goofy ah adult fast food worker. Now he's just noise for the sake of noise.

Ren and Stimpy was more on-model than this.

Ren and Stimpy specifically rejected on-model dogma from Filmation, etc., as idiocy.

It takes zero skill to draw from model sheets, to draw complex characterizing acting like Ren and Stimpy or recent SpongeBob takes a lot of skill

I can't enjoy them when the only reason they exist is because Nick started merchandising Spongebob memes and actually making bank off it, so now they're desperately shoving in as many wacky, "zany" faces as they can in the hopes that one of them becomes the next merchandisable meme
