Both. The two are characters with little to no moral compass. One just happens to be worse than the other.

Both of them are shits, but all Brian had to do in order to destroy the entirety of his tirade is say "You are a literal rapist" and walk out.

At least Quagmire is funny sometimes and isn't involved in any of the cringiest moments of Family Guy. Quagmire was never in a bank vault eating shit for an entire episode. Quagmire never died to feign drama in a show that can't break from the status quo.

      >At least Quagmire is funny sometimes and isn't involved in any of the cringiest moments of Family Guy
That changed in later seasons. For some reason they decided to make Quagmire the cynical straight man of the show that gets annoyed at everyone's antics and refuses to go along with any joke.

You can't really have a pervert with questionable attitude towards consent anymore, so all they can do is make him a straight man with a slight sexual edge, but who now respects boundaries.

          Anonymous

They could have toned down some of his more controversial sexual deviancy and still kept him as the laidback ladies man, just with no more rape jokes. He actually annoys me far more than any other character now because of his he kills any scene he's in by refusing to participate in any of the antics. It doesn't help that they try to put him on a moral pedestal often and keep showing that he's actually this really upstanding and responsible guy.
I know they're trying to erase the fact he used to be a literal rapist but it just doesn't work with him. If they wanted a straight man for the group it could have just been Cleveland.

I hate how he gets to be on the pedestal and above everyone despite what his character is. He ALWAYS had to be better than everyone. I wish someone would put him in his place.

It's rare for anything bad to even happen to him anymore even though literally everyone else is subject to slapstick or getting shit on with little to no prompting.
I'm pretty sure someone on the writing team turned him into their personal pet character.

Quagmire's objectively a worse person than Brian being a rapist and all who doesn't talk to the swarms of kids of leaves behind. His argument for why he's better person than Brian is that he's more "honest" with who he is to himself and others which is dumb. Also my music plays in a different window lol

this whole conversation was just mastubatory on quagmires part
neither character is in much of a place to judge
quagmire as a man who ats like a dog
and brian a dog that acts like a man
if anything Brian is more impressive in his social failure
but quagmire starts to just barley crack the surface of brians existential absurdity and how in his transcendence of species has placed him in a sort of mellow mediacrity instead of something more apocalyptical

Brian for trying to manipulate someone into liking him.
    >but Quaggy Maggy Rapey
Yes, but the question isn't "who's the worse person" it's "who was in the wrong?" Brian found out that Quagmire hates him and instead of going "like I give a frick what that deranged weirdo thinks", he becomes fixated with getting Quagmire to like him. Anyone who does that gets what they deserve.

Brian was done dirty by the writing staff. The original character was a little bit of a pretentious know-it-all, but he was genuinely intelligent and had reason to be snarky, as he really was surrounded by people who couldn't appreciate him, but as the characters shifted and flanderized and societal norms changed he eventually turned to unwarranted arrogance and got punished for it. Now all they do is make jokes about him posturing pretending to understand intellectual things and then getting called out for being a poser, which is the complete opposite of his original character, but which fits better into how the show works now. Random characters are more likely to know extremely niche things for the sake of comedy, so in modern Family Guy, if an obscure philosopher comes up, the joke would be that Brian would say some vague and blatantly incorrect thing to try to sound smart, and then someone who has no business knowing about the subject, like Quagmire or Joe or some tertiary character like Carl would correct him leading to an awkward embarrassing scene. Which is okay on its own, seeing pretentious blowhards get punctured is fun, but the original concept of the character of Brian is that he legitimately was the one to be able to quote literature and philosophy and it would just go over the heads of everybody else.

      >does loads of bad shit with the guys
He’s always been the epitome of a bad friend, from the first episode to the newer ones. He deserves to have the world shit on him instead of being this martyr moral compass butthole they’re writing him as. Since 1999 he’s
      >hit on all of his best friend’s wives
      >had sex with one of his friend’s first wives and broke up their marriage, making him a single father
      >hit on and attempted to have sex with his best friend’s underage daughter and her underage friends
      >hit on multiple underage girls in general
      >raped women and has rape machines in his home
      >stalked multiple women including his best friend’s wife
      >has children with multiple women and refuses to take care of any of them or pay child support despite being a single man living on a pilot’s salary
      >is condescending towards all of his friends including making fun of Joe for being in a wheelchair through no fault of his own
      >demeans the wives of all of his friends by calling them bawds despite being the textbook definition of a bawd
      >doesn’t ever realize how much of a pig he is despite living as a woman and experiencing this firsthand
      >is a hypocrite towards Brian, not seeing the irony that he’s worse than a dog
I don’t see why the writing staff has such a boner for redeeming him. If anything, kill him off.

Brian's an idiot for even trying to be friend with Quagmire. But he's as least not in the wrong in most situations.
Quagmire however is a known serial rapist, a sexual deviant among the city, and knowingly gives out std's despite knowing the risk. Him trying to take the high ground in this altercation never came off as genuine seeing as once again. He's a fricking rapist with numerous unforgiving deplorable acts against his closest friends and the people around him.

    quagmire is in the wrong

    let's ignore the rapist part

brian is actually trying to be quagmire's friend and quagmire throws it in his face when soup kitchens don't solve homelessness. quagmire is one of those snob activist that thing activism is what really helps when it doesn't actually fix problems.

he also makes a lot of money as a pilot and if he gave a shit, you'd think that he would do other things like specific donations or run for office in a political party that supports the working class.

also the show is inconsistent about what brian is allowed to do as a dog. how the frick is quagmire to judge when brian can't do many human activities?

rather than rationally criticize brian, he just goes off the rails on a tirade

Alright I'm gonna go ahead and reply to Quagmire. I'll also go ahead and call him a homosexual as that's the common procedure here. I'll be sure to quote his post number even though that's completely unnecessary. Let's also post an accompanying image that's appropriate enough but really is just the quickest image I could find on the first page of a google image search, probably a youtube video clip with a watermark that I won't properly crop. I am going to make an offhand remark about Quagmire's race, religion, and sexual exploits or lack there of. Better call him a newbie from reddit or twitter just to be safe, I can always blame /misc/ or Cinemaphile if that doesn't work. Insert a forced sneed's feed and seed reference, wouldn't be the first time we stole from the Simpsons. Finally I'll cap off my reply by saying that your mother will die in her sleep if you don't respond to my post. And that should just about do it for my Cinemaphile post.

The irony of Quagmire calling Brian a bore is that Quagmire has since been reinvented as the bore of Peter's group.
In fact, in some ways, Quagmire and Brian have practically swapped roles, as Brian is the only one regularly shown sleeping around.

Any reason why they seemed to have quietly done away with the Q man being a serial rapist?

And I do mean rapist, like when he raped that high school girl tied up in the early seasons.

well yeah, its because Seth wanted a spin off with quagmire but this was during the sex pest era. So now they're just gonna tone his ass down and reinvent his character. And then have this get drawn out for several years and cut out the episodes of him being problematic and then Suddenly he'll get his own show.

        Anonymous

Seth wants to get a spin-off by removing all the things that make Quagmire amusing?
It's not like they're just toning down the rape, they're intentionally writing him as a boring, annoying 1950s throwback wannabe that's only good for other characters to bounce off.
