        The new religion

          Anonymous

Radical egalitarianism has always been the religion since the Nazis lost, metaphorically speaking that is. Since then there was a cultural battle between the Soviets and the Americans as to who could be the least prejudiced. "In your country they hung Blacks" as the Soviet have said. To over simplify without making this a blog post, had the Nazis won we probably wouldn't be in this state. And no, I'm not saying they should have won. The biggest mistake the Nazis made was waging genocide.

The Simpsons did it, South park did it, every show has done it at some point, and Orel is not special for it, thats why they started to go full shock value on the viewers. Hell, adult swim b***hed about the show because it wasn't "mature enough"

If you think the show is "religion bad" youre a total brainlet. It's about people abusing positions of influence and power.

Faith improved Orel's life. He ends the show well adjusted with a good Christian family. That's purposeful.

Whoever cherrypicks the show and represents it as anything but a criticism of Christianity is dishonest. The last scene in Moral Orel is a 5 second epilogue of his future family taped onto an episode where his dad spurns his secret gay lover and Orel is permanently crippled. We're talking about a show that has pointed out the absurdity of the Bible's rules when applied to the real world, the social pressure of starting a family leading to loveless marriages, the rampant ostracization of any outgroup or even those who share similar beliefs (catholic vs protestant), the willingness to turn a blind eye to atrocities committed by any Christian (Orel included), the ridicule and censorship of any scientific evidence etc. If there's one takeaway from the show, it's that you can be a good person not because of faith, but in spite of it.

It's a very specific satire of Red State/small town America and its hypocritical intricacies that comes from a place of intimate understanding.

It's a critique of the culture that spawned the religion and how individuals can overcome that culture though their own strong sense of principles.

I've never watched the entire show but from what I've seen it seems very apparent that Orel is the only one who firmly practices his religion and is better for it, learning to interpret things differently along the way. Obviously the message of the show isn't to use religion to be a good person, but it seems like a fine middle ground especially during that era of adult animated shows that really was just RELIGION BAD.

This is true. The Evangelicals believed that they were performing the Will of Jesus when they invaded Iraq. They were moronic, but sincere.

Now you've got ostracised young men on the fringes of society pretending to be Christians out of a sense of societal contrarianism so they can get one over on women, gays, and the israelites. It's not the fact that they hate gays and women, it's the fact that they're trying to justify their anger in religious terms that they don't truly believe in.

        >Many of you young zoomers either were too young or weren't born, but super hardcore Christians who were hypocritical pieces of shit had a powerful grip on the country and were the modern day woke trannies. I know it sounds ridiculous but its true.

no, it's not true, and if you think it's true, you are a moronic homosexual. Evangelical Christians were more prominent in the 2000s, but it was nothing like the control that trannies wield today. Evangelicals were not trying to change definitions and get special privileges in schools.

The only reason they were prominent was because they were a large voting bloc and thus had to be pandered to. They really didn't have much influence. The mainstream media didn't like them. Even Fox News wasn't extremely pro evangelical. Every other news station disliked them. Daily Show jon stewart always made fun of them.

By contrast, trannies are able to wield their influence to shut websites down. They can teach in schools with comically large fake breasts.

Trannies can have grown men dressed as sexual demons with horns read books to children in school and have the children sit on their laps while they get boners. That's a legal thing that happens around the country.

But Evangelicals were never even able to say a prayer in schools.

And for the record, I think Evangelicals are cringe homosexuals that worship Israel and israelites, but it's simply disingenuous to propose they had anything close to the power that woke trannies have today.

If anything, you'd have to go back to the 1980s for a time when Christians had a similar level of power to trannies today, and even then the extent of their power was just getting warning labels on rap and metal albums

Uh no, the Rev was a horny chronic masturbator who abandoned his only bastard child (until the very end). The only good moral characters were Orel, the Nurse, her son, the police officer, Clay's dad, and of course Christine. I'd even argue the Rev's daughter is more morally righteous than him even though she's an atheist.

This episode and the "Moral is grounded" episode confused me - what were the themes to take away from them? Were they being pretentious or possibly shortsighted? For the Buddha one, I think the message is that "Many religions share similar values and can be practiced if it's towards the same ends" and for the Church one, the message must have been "Church isn't necessary for salvation as long as you have faith and live righteously"

Anyone else looking forward to 20 to 30 years from now, when we'll finally get satires about the hypocrisies and failures of feminist progressivism and the emerging troony cult? I don't think the kids today are going to judge the generation of their parents any less harshly than the 2000's atheists did.

I used to watch Moral Orel while I lied in bed with my ex-girlfriend in her little apartment at college. It's hard to watch now even though years have gone by. I've found another woman and I love her, even dated her longer at this point, but it's not the same. I'll never know the passion that I felt with my first love again, and I guess I'm alright with that. Smile that it happened as they say. Christ, I need a mother fricking drink but I told myself I'd cut down and not drink until the weekend. Lord give me the fricking strength. Goddamn it. I quit smoking too.

New? Christians have been playing this card since day one. Compare the outrageously fictitious Christian stories about martyrs to the actual evidence: Romans mostly had the same attitude to Christians that we do, which is to say that they just laughed at them for acting moronic.

    >Justin Martyr argued for the genealogy of Jesus in the biological Davidic line from Mary, as well as from his non-biological father Joseph.[1] However, this only implies a general israeli ancestry, acknowledged generally by authors.

The focus of many early sources was on the physical unattractiveness of Jesus rather than his beauty. The second-century anti-Christian philosopher Celsus wrote that Jesus was "ugly and small"[25] and similar descriptions are presented in a number of other sources as discussed extensively by Robert Eisler,[26] who in turn often quotes from Ernst von Dobschütz' monumental Christusbilder.[27] Tertullian states that Jesus's outward form was despised, that he had an ignoble appearance, and the slander he suffered proved the 'abject condition' of his body.[28] According to Irenaeus, he was a weak and inglorious man,[29] and in the Acts of Peter he is described as small and ugly to the ignorant.[26]:439 Andrew of Crete relates that Christ was bent or even crooked[26]:412 and in the Acts of John he is described as bald-headed and small with no good looks.[30]

Sounds convenient that they only get punished after they die, after they live a life satisfied with the heinous shit they've done. From what we know about consciousness is that it ceases when we die, and there's no empirical evidence that contradicts this. I think they might just be getting away with it.
But I suppose contradictions never bothered you considering that the bible is chock full of them.
But then again,I think the stories written therein were supposed to be taken at face value, and since they're so holy and important they could never be subject to scrutiny. Anyone who disagrees? Hell, they're worse than the pedophiles and sadists.

            >Sounds convenient that they only get punished after they die, after they live a life satisfied with the heinous shit they've done.
Well, as Buddhists say, more grease for the dharma wheel. It seems perfectly logical for a sinner to be given a whole life worth of chances to repent or damn himself.
            Free will and all that.

              Anonymous

So if we're dead set on being logical why are we venerating a book where our god created a false dilemma ie the serpent to tempt his creation when he knew that they would be tempted by it. That is highly illogical. Unless you're advocating that god had the free will to figure out what he already knew was going to happen.

                Anonymous

It illustrates free will. He created a foil to his overwhelming power so humans could choose.
In Eden humans were cattle and it was not right. So they were given a choice to be cattle still or to live with the consequences of a free will.

                Anonymous

Have you ever even read that story? God doesn't offer the humans a choice between free-will and obedience. He lies to them about what will happen if they eat from the tree, the snake tells them the truth and God evicts them out of fear that they could become his equals. This isn't even a strange interpretation. This is what the words on the page say, even in our modern Bibles, which are third or fourth hand translations.

                Anonymous

He just created a snake. It does all the work for him.
Be like gods themselves, all that crap is the snakes words, humans are free to turn away.
They obviously don't, and in that same act they learn of free will and punishment.

                Anonymous

No God explicitly says that "they could become like us". And God's creation of the snake is never explicitly mentioned in the story. If you care at all about the truth, you can't ignore parts that are inconvenient and add-in parts that would be convenient.

Point of all religions is soul-searching. Thumping the book usually results badly, in either way- be it Bible-bashing or bashing-Biblers.

Everyone fears. It is the main feature of humanity. Faith is really the only viable solution to it, be it faith in God, Communism or Cthulhu.

Faith is not the only solution. This sort of close mindedness is why people have come to resent religious people. Clearly you haven't soul searched enough if you just found one solution, and went "yeah this works for me" without a doubt in your mind. There are so many possibilites and fundamentalists go with the easiest, most comfortable solution, probably introduced by your parents. Why? Because it's easier than believing that one day your brain will stop receiving external stimuli. No one is entitled to an "afterlife"

In doing so he introduced his creation to a lifetime universe of pain and suffering. And now we're supposed to believe, in his rigid doctrine, that not believing is a crime on the same level as murder. All of the people who don't know of Christ? Condemned to hell. The imagination is one hell of a drug and exacerbated by the fact that people have been drinking this same kool-aid for centuries. I'm glad Christianity is dying out, people refuse to believe in your backwards rhetoric. Complaining about tv shows and arguing online won't ever change that.

Of course it has a pretty bookish name. Always had. Superego, Supreme being, four iirc parts of soul as per Book of the Dead (which was ripped off by Jung), all that.
But then you see shit and names slide off the primal terror which really drives you on. And you start to pray to whatever form your god is.

You can just skip the preliminaries and say you believe because you're scared of the alternative

                Exactly.
You live in a country where there are consequences for not conforming. You might be too moronic to grasp that just because you personally want to conform, this does not invalidate the presumption of conform or face consequences you claim you were not bound by, but all that means is that you, as a moron, hold the views of a moronic person.

You are seething so hard, the point was muslims can't convert me to islam just because they're majority, you've missed the mark hard. Your insane theories are yours to spout but you can't shit your pants when you get proven wrong by literally everyone. This is why everyone thinks of you religious people as dim witted closed minded people. Because you believe there is a bearded man in the sky who favors whites and hates minorities, and you think humans aren't capable of extermination on a mass scale when we literally do it to cows

                >the point was muslims can't convert me to islam just because they're majority
Yes they can. You say as much yourself.
What you are stating is that Islam is not currently the dominant social climate.

As I said, you're too fricking stupid to realise how stupid you are. There's a level of intelligence where people are incapble of viewing things from outside their perspective. Your current perspective is the current social climate which you are obligated to conform to, as you delightedly and moronicly use as a "gotcha" against the people trying to explain to you what a moron you are by stating *nonconformist opinion*.
What do you think would happen if an Islamic social climate were to occur? Where instead of
                >Enjoy having to bottle up your racism and your stupidity. The holocaust definitely happened and that's why the only place you can say it didn't is here. If you had to show your face you wouldn't say shit
                It was
                >Enjoy having to bottle up your atheism and your stupidity. The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was definitely the perfect man and the prophet of Allah and that's why the only place you can say he isn't is here. If you had to show your face you wouldn't say shit
I know this is hard for you to understand because that is not the current scenario. That is not how things are at the moment. Nobody is claiming it is. This is something called "abstraction" where we take ideas and theorize what it would be like if that were the case.
Again, the fact that you enjoy the current paradigm does not distinguish it from alternate paradigms. It is, in fact, a given that you enjoy it, because you are clearly too fricking stupid to be anything other than a product of your environment, and if you were born in an Islamic paradigm I have no doubt in my mind that you would be first to sing his praise. Your claims that you don't have to conform are bullshit. You have repeatedly made that argument yourself oblivious to the fact that you are arguing against yourself.

Well, there is that little thing called humanity's spiritual tradition, going all the way from the first caves.
Where does that fear of judgement come from?
I am not talking about Christianity. There is a part of human firmware that really sticks out of any logic you try to plaster on it. It comes out at every liminal moment a human has.

It's called the Superego and it doesn't have anything to do with fiction written by desert tribesmen larping as philosophers. You are a bundle of flesh that processes information the same way a computer does. You fear the unknown variables so you replace them with something you find comforting.

It's like how Adult Swim originally aired the season 1 finale as the series premiere.
