How did Anakin have a padawan when he wasn't given the rank of jedi master until the third movie? They can just grab someone and train them? Didn't Obi Wan have to be given the rank before he trained Anakin?
Master is just a title for higher ranking jedis. Obi Wan was still a knight when he started training Anakin.

when a knight was asked to join the jedi council he automatically got the rank of Master (but most members were Masters already because they trained multiple padawans)
Anakin was enraged when he didnt get the rank of Master, this was because Palpatine politicked Anakin's way into the council
