I've yet to hear a single reasonable explanation. Just one.

The reasonable explanation is that some of your assumptions may be wrong.

      >zero impact
It means forgotten after merely 2 months

See how people still talk about the shitty disney Star Wars movies? that's cultural impact, something this garbage "blockbuster" failed miserably.

And yet everyone will watch the sequels.

    -Amazing visuals
    -Impeccably made
    -Antithesis of capeslop
    -Simple, relatable story about family
-Crafts a profound, sincere story which isn't embarrassed by asking its audience to feel emotions
    -No magic Macguffin
    -A rare, genuinely worthy sequel
-Has an actual ending instead of dangling a post credits sequel bait scene in front of the audience

na'vi aren't actually like any tribal people on earth and the "whaling... bad!", "poaching... bad!", "pollution... bad!", "genocide... bad!", "environmental destruction... bad!" preaching is a necessary evil to get amazing naturekino

no, just depressing. You could tell very good stories in the avatar setting with only humans but those stories would be about though struggles without any definitive answers

the tragedy in avatar is that humanity is spending the last decades as a species enslaved by psychopath billionaires

avatar actually makes everyone else in the media world/corporate world very annoyed.
its very well made technically so other media is put to shame.
it points out how wrong corporations are as most profit making involves exploitation/environmental damage.
All the people who start making noise and create cultural impact just dont want to draw attention to it.
so that leaves the fans, and to be honest these films are shit for meme material and there is almost nobody that could attempt navi cosplay and not embarrass themselves.
However there are a lot of people just quietly enjoying these films and then going home to consume products covered in single use plastics that get 'recycled' by being sent to Greece where they are burned next to a water source.
movies aint gonna change the world.

My guess is that not many people actually go see it but the demographic that does are middle class/upper middle class families who wait to buy the 4dx imax screenings (hence why the box office has such good legs). Explains why literally nobody talks about it while still making a shit ton of money.
