It gets better around halfway through season 2. Season 1 is kinda cringe but at least it's the entertaining kind of cringe. Especially that one episode where Willow gets catfished by a demon on the internet
Every time I introduce people to the show I make a deal that they just have to watch one season with me and I'll watch one season of whatever they want. I've had to sit through a lot of boring reality TV and so on but the s1 finale literally never fails. Usually how it goes is people make fun of it being so dated for the first few episodes and enjoy it in a half-watching sort of way. Some of the monsters of the week they sorta tune out but none of it is bad, just not anything special.
Then they get to the finale and they're hooked. Immediately on to s2 and they binge the whole rest of the series. It never fails.
Buffy S1 is very cheesy and kinda cringe but every show these days is ten times more cringe. Half the appeal of Buffy is the cheesy 90s aesthetics and the fun high school setting.
I rec people to start with S2 because nowadays most ppl struggle to watch a single episode esp of something that's as "dated" as Buffy's first season. S1 is unironically one of the best though it's better than the last 2 seasons.
The last episode of season 1 is pure kino, that's when I fell in love with the show
Prophecy Girl is 10/10
It kinda is. Its success infected the world with despicable Whedon quips, even though it worked better in this form
Because of Whedon every marvel / superhero / blockbuster / teen drama is a quipfest
watch Buffy until Angel leaves and gets his own...then switch to watching Angel.
Actually watch Buffy S4 and Angel S1 together then do the same with BS5 + AS2 and THEN you switch to Angel because after the S5 finale that's when the show thematically ends and Angel is just a better show
He also says if you want a happy ending for Angel to stop at Smile Time. Thats absolute bullshit, the ramp up to what happens at the end of Angel is fricking fantastic. Why would he tell people not to watch the end because it isnt "happy". The ending is fricking great, whoever wrote that is a dumb frick
Smile Time > Not Fade Away is the best run of episodes in the entire Buffyverse
I haven't seen Angel since it aired on tv, but iirc it kind of slumps in the middle seasons and then picks up again in the final season. I remember being surprised at how good the last season ending up being because I hadn't liked the show in a while when it started and was only watching out of habit at that point.
Season 4 is the biggest slump every other season is solid and even S4 is mostly watchable it's just not as replayable due to the season-long storyline that drags on for too long
it was aboot the guy looking for the demon who killed his GF, but i never found out before i moved on (timeslot changed and i found other shows to watch at the time)
and years later i found out it just became a demon and angel shitshow
how tf do you watch angel, they made hotchick annoying and obnoxious and the rest of is gay helping poor Black folk cringeshit. like the last possible thing you could want from a show about a vampire
it is cringe, the season with eliza dushku is kinda good in a schlocky way though. use a watch guide and skip 95% of s1 and then whenever the network change happens (when the sister materializes or whatever shit drop it) and it's watchable again as schlock
What a complete trash list. Puppet Show is pure unadulterated kino. Won't bother looking past that, because this spaz doesn't know what he's talking about.
He also says if you want a happy ending for Angel to stop at Smile Time. Thats absolute bullshit, the ramp up to what happens at the end of Angel is fricking fantastic. Buffy is a super kino show (as is Angel) -- They both have their rough edges but with a few exceptions, even the janky ones are fun.
Buffy was a mid-season replacement for some shitty soap so they had very little prep time and the aforementioned jankiness is there in season 1 as a result (it's still a lot of fun though) by season 2 they knew what they were doing and season 3 slaps HARD.

Sounds like your standards for television viewing are even lower. Watch guides are fine for shit like SNL, Seinfeld, and other shows that just reset at the end of every episode, but with shit like this it's just being lazy and shallow. >no sense of time value
Where do you think you are right now?
It's hard to believe now since it's been so dominant in movie and tv writing for so long, but Whedon dialogue was very innovative and refreshing at the time. It also came right on the heels of a decade of media that took edgy vampire shit too seriously, so the audience was ready for something that spoofed the genre a bit.

Season 1 was still very experimental. Season 2 it's much better (and add 2-3 memorable characters, especially Spike that later inspired dozens of ripp offs in other shows) and the general consensus is that season 3 was the best
From season 4 onwards the series fork because Angel received his own spin off show, and the core cast was split.
Personally, Angel is overall a much better series than Buffy post season 4, and aged much better. Its less episodic "monster of the week" formula and more of a continous plot, especially from season 2 onwards.
The only weakness is that regarding specific memorable episodes, Buffy 1-3 wipes the floor of both Angel and the later seasons of Buffy
>Angel is overall a much better series than Buffy
But all the Connor shit is awful and it goes on for like two seasons, and it only gets saved because of season 5
Yea. It's a strange developed in which seasons 1-2-5 are kino (but the endings of season 2-5 may not be liked), while seasons 3-4 starts both good but later develop into a convoluted messes
I really think they should had made the Supreme Evil (Buffy Season 7 major villain) as the true mastermind behind the clusterfrick of season 4, given the two seasons aired at the same time
Angel S5 ending is based, but even Buffy has it's shitty seasonsm I didn't even finish Season 7 last time I watched it, never thought it was very good.
I really couldnt stand the rushed ending. The thorn council were litterally whos that i suppose were planned for season 6. Hamilton, McDonald, Illyria and so on all had rushed arcs in the last episodes
Some rushed shit aside the ending is great, going out swinging (presumably) they couldn't have done a much better job, imo.
And it's not just that, the rest of the season was the best of the two shows, while Buffy languished on S7 (which is arguably tied with S1 as the worst one) and talking of ending issues Anya is killed off with a literal shug and a "whatever".
some of the Angelus and Faith stuff in season 4 is pretty good, but yea season 4 was not the high point. I think the real life pregnancy of Charisma caused them to scramble and change things on the fly too. That is a pretty idea though about having a cross show villain
>That is a pretty idea though about having a cross show villain
This is what everyone tought while the first half of season 4 aired, with that frickhuge epic demon that kicked their asses. Its seems natural that he was some general of the Idea of Evil tasked to deal with Angel, to keep him busy and stops him from helping Buffy against his master
And as a villain it was actually much cooler than the boring, litterally who main villain that was revealed in the second half of the season
some of the Angelus and Faith stuff in season 4 is pretty good, but yea season 4 was not the high point. I think the real life pregnancy of Charisma caused them to scramble and change things on the fly too. That is a pretty idea though about having a cross show villain
Angel season 3 is kino though especially the long drawn out storyline involving Angel's son, Holtz and Wesley's betrayal it's honestly one of the best written storylines in the entire buffyverse
Angel season 4 may be the weakest but it has some of the best action scenes in the whole series and it's pretty fun and enjoyable the first time watching. Just hard to sit through on rewatches. Even the Connor stuff wasn't as bad as I remembered especially at the end of the season when he breaks down and becomes suicidal.
Season 4 was a nonsensical shitshow look at the Cordy stuff. Connor sucks, period, and while it may have been so-so at the start it quickly got worse and worse as time went on.
>memorable episodes
Honestly idk about that, later seasons of buffy are the ones that have the extremely memorable episodes like The Body, Hush, and so on. The later seasons are more uneven, but they do still hit very high highs.
I suppose, but it's The Body or Once More with Feeling in a season full of forgettable episodes. I agree with the other anon Buffy 1-3 just WIPES the floor to the point where even the last seasons of the show just suck in comparison.
Angel is a better show because it's more solid and consistent from start to finish. Buffy's peak was better than Angel but Buffy nosedives in quality in the last seasons while Angel steadily maintains quality throughout. Could even argue that Angel S5 is as good as Buffy S3
>Angel is a better show because it's more solid and consistent from start to finish. Buffy's peak was better than Angel but Buffy nosedives in quality in the last seasons
Yea this is the general consensus. Angel is a solid show with an overall higher and costant quality level, while not able to match Buffy at its best AND worst
Millenial here (born 1994). I watched Buffy the Vampire though for the first time and found it kino
I hate it, too. My mother is watching an episode now and I can't stop cringing.

Angel was better. Which is surprising, because Angel was kind of cringe in Buffy.
both Angel and Wesley were cringe on Buffy but get serious character development on Angel. It really is the better show
Angel (the show) was the Deep Space 9 to Buffy's Next Generation, and Angel and Wesley were the Worf and O'Brien of the Buffyverse.
This is highly accurate.

well i wasnt a teen in the late 80's so i wouldn't know of the vjs
mtv isnt the only place that did specials or commercials for things. dont know what the point of that post was even for
Kari Wuhrer, Nia Peeples, Julie Brown, Martha Quinn
These are all MTV VJs who got into movies just because they were on MTV
ok so?
most people (especialy back then) wouldn't know or care that an actor was a vj before they got big
the only one of those people i even know of is kari
>When did MTV shill that or give it awards?
Buffy never won a single MTV award... because MTV didn't do TV awards back then, you unbelievably moronic zoomer
>because MTV didn't do TV awards back then
Oh really? Those started in 1992.
Youre either lying or trolling.
they had the MTV Movie Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards
that was it
they didn't add TV to the movie awards until 2017
you fricking homosexual
This is verifiably false, but keep making stuff up
Stop acting like no one has internet and cant check you when this is an internet page
>cant check you when this is an internet page
Not OP but literally the first line on the wiki:
>The ceremony was renamed the MTV Movie & TV Awards for its 26th edition in 2017 to also honor work in television as well as film.
you're proving you weren't "there", homosexual
you're a moron zoomer who doesn't even know how to look shit up on the internet properly
kys
>shown up to be a giant try-hard homosexual larper
>no response
kek
F A G G O T
you're a fricking moron
And as a villain it was actually much cooler than the boring, litterally who main villain that was revealed in the second half of the season
this. The Beast is a great villian, Jasmine is trash.
Even the Connor stuff wasn't as bad as I remembered especially at the end of the season when he breaks down and becomes suicidal.
the baby connor plot is one of the best season storylines and he isn't even that bad of a character in S4
Season 4 was a nonsensical shitshow look at the Cordy stuff. Connor sucks, period, and while it may have been so-so at the start it quickly got worse and worse as time went on.
I was referring to the baby connor plot in S3, and yeah i agree S4 is a mess but it's got some awesome moments
>I was referring to the baby connor plot in S3,
Same.
Connor was pretty cool in his last appearance.
>memorable episodes
Stick with 13 reasons why, pleb.
season 1 sucks , did you watch vampire's diary's ?
Buffy S1 is better than all of Vampire Diary's
are you op ?
