Zoomie here, I thought the movie was pretty enjoyable, although I think Silvestri's lighthearted Back to the Future esque music is a little inappropriate at times.
What does Cinemaphile think?

What does Cinemaphile think?
Kino and anyone who says anything bad about it is a homosexual
Even the music? Like I said doesn't it feel upbeat at times it shouldn't?
I only remember the music when it gets tense. But the beginning part of the movie is meant to have a lighthearted feel. You're supposed to think this is another action romp through the jungle for Arnie and his crew but then it turns into a slaughter.
the movie ive seen the most. i love every bit of it.
As someone who has never watched this movie, what makes it so good?
It's a simple narrative
>Soilders in the jungle hunted by an ayy lmao
The cast is very enjoyable to watch
The movie is masculine to a comical degree but it makes It only work better
One of the most iconic alien designs to date
It's simple fun, macho men versus an unseen threat...
Jokes aside, the directors commentary is one of the best recorded. He goes in to detail about how he chose to shoot the action sequences in this and Die Hard to separate them from what else was out in America at the time. He wasn't an action director so he looked at guys like Spielberg and noticed something (the same thing everyone post Hong Kong realised by the 90's, for the most part) and it was that you needed to get the action and the actors in the same frame. He even talked about a simple part of one scene which was the guys observing the camp from a hill. The producers expected it to be a simple set up. Shot of the actors laying down, looking through binoculars intercut with wide shots of the camp. Instead he insisted on a complex boom shot where you follow the guys crawling and the camera moves up and over them to the wide shot of the camp, so you feel like you are actually there and discovering it with them. Same with the shots of Jesse shooting his mini-gun while explosions go off behind him. The normal assumption was "quick shot of Jesse shooting, cut to explosions, cut back and so on".
Anyway, it all seems quaint now.
Why are you sucking boomer wiener homosexual
Can't win with you grumpy buttholes can we...
He ain't got time to bleed, homosexual
Music doesn't feel out of place for me at all, never thought of such thing
i love the music. especially when dillon sees mac
What other movies for this feel? Apocalypto is the only other jungle chase Kino I can think of…specifically everything from the bow and arrows in the ball court scene on.
13 warriors, definitely
Or any other 7 samurai adaptation
When I think of the score I think of the opening sequence, which is perfect.
You're just used to low, downbeat scores that are always humming away in the background of modern movies. Musical scores used to be up front and lively.
All of capeshit is upbeat and lively still
I'm used to consistent tone, in Back to the Future it makes sense, but in this movie it persists even after Preds starts offing our guys, it's just jarring and/or dated, no?
No.
the music doesnt sound that way to me. none of it sounds lighthearted as you describe
The onlu thing that sucks is they set up Billy as this stoic le epic badass and all he does is cut hos chest and die like a b***h
yeah right that part is great too. the pred was just too awesome
Every one of them died like a b***h aside from Dutch and maybe Dillon. That was the whole point. That even these experience, competent and deadly soldiers didn't stand a chance against the predator and it could take them out easily unless it handicapped itself.
Shut up homosexual
