a lot more time and effort was put in though. Solid directoral vision from Ang Lee too.

    >stand alone movie
    >director with a lot of control
    >reputations at stake
    >CGI being a CORE element of the film - need the tiger to work and look realistic, along with all the water elements
compared to CGI in capeshit where no ones career is at stake, already have a built in audience who will watch no matter what.

    capeshit is just cinema goyslop

Well that whole scene with the carnivorous island was all a lie right so probably he made it all up

Well its impossible to have a carnivorous floating island and they said that nobody's ever seen it at the end I think too

made-up bullshit but they still imagine it was real in headcanon so they act like they won, like all christcuck / whatevercucks

This is so stupid on so many levels bc isn't it more religious that he would have personified his intrapersonal battle as a tiger or whatever? The base story itself is not overtly religious

I don't think that was the point of the religious stuff at all dude it was just about this guy having a spiritual journey in general. That's why he had 3 different religions so that it wasn't biased one way or specific

It's almost like it won the Oscar for best cinematography

Yeah and if you are making a vfx-centered film you should invest in cinematography like this and avatar but barely anyone does it

True. But then if you're making factory floor goyslop for fatasses to stare blankly at for 2 hours and then completely forget, why bother? Especially if you've got a very expensive cast who's just there for a paycheck and doesn't want to be on set longer than a few weeks.

The same guy as Pi shot Oblivion the next year, which I think is actually an even better-looking movie, and I think the only reason he didn't get the Oscar for that was because he'd won the year before

You're right that they are doing it for cost-cutting measures and they are making money purely on the ip and shit but that is bad in the long run for sure. I think stuff like spiderverse shows that people will go out and see stuff because the production & technical side is good and on the other hand shit like the flash is tanking bc ppl can only watch the same shit over and over for a little while

            Anonymous

True. And we must not underestimate how much some A-lister who's there for an easy Disney paycheck does not want to spend 14-hour days on set on some garbage comic book flick. A real DP getting a scene lit beautifully takes a ton of time and Robert Downey Jr does not want to be sitting around waiting for hours and hours of it every day. So shoot it all with sitcom lighting and make it pretty in post when the stars are on their yachts off Monaco

I mean it doesn't actual work but you can see the appeal to a suit

100% and it really fricking sucks. Since capeshit is dying now I wonder what direction they're gonna go, if they're gonna pivot to even more mass-produced tv and stuff or try to give more money to art. Most likely the former but maybe once marvel crashes and burns cinema will return from the ashes

                Anonymous

Cinema and TV I think, those are the media where people pay a studio actual money to make stuff. Streaming I think is sort of a creation of the easy-money era of 2009-21 that's now come to an end, but advertiser spend and box office receipts are cash you get for producing entertainment and that's what studios need.

I think more creative mid-budget features will get made, trying to find the next franchises that can be safely milked for another decade

it's literally just as simple as the heads of the studios making vfx artists crunch to meet release dates, thats why capeshit cgi looks so bad, also the studio heads just chew up these vfx studios and spit them out, watch the documentary life after pi
