He didn't think his master plan through and comprehend the danger of it. What did he think the dinosaurs would do when he shut off the security system?

nothing? The dinosaurs know the gates are electrified so they'd have no reason to keep checking if they were off or not.

What? The dinosaurs broke free quickly, it's like they were waiting for the opportunity. The T-rex was out of his cage within hours of the blackout. I forget when the raptors got loose but it was early enough in the film for Samuel Jackson's character to get eaten. And Newman was eaten by the spitting carnivores, I don't know if he crashed into their pen or they were already out of there pen and loose.

This shit all happened on day one. People died because of him. He saw the children before he initiated his plan. That fatso put children's lives in danger. Did he really think he was going to get away with it? Hammond is a billionaire, there would have been an international manhunt for his murdering fat ass once the dust settled.

yes and its an unrealistic scenario. If an animal gets a shock from something, it will be scared of it for a long time and avoid it. There's no situation where the dinosaurs are going to know the power is out and they can break free right away.

Living dinosaurs created for a theme park is also an unrealistic scenario. But nonetheless it is what happened in the movie.

He didn't turn off the Raptor's pens. The pens got turned off when they tried resetting the power to reboot the computers and unlock Nedry's encryption. Nedry had expected the whole thing to take only about twenty minutes there and twenty minutes back. He wasn't supposed to get lost, crash and not return.

He didn't think his master plan through is my point.

the only part he failed at was getting lost, which then did jeopardize people. It's silly that the directional signs can accidentally rotate. If he hadn't gotten lost, everyone would have been fine. Nedry also thought similarly to many of the other staff that these were just big zoo animals and easily controlled. He didn't even know much about most of them, like what a Dilophosaurus was.

He's not in school. He isn't going to be scored on a gradient because he got 90% of his plan right before it result in catastrophe.

                >Living dinosaurs created for a theme park is also an unrealistic scenario
The dinosaurs existing is explained through scenes in the movie. As a viewer you are expecting logical consitency in a movie and if anything deviates from it then it should be explained why. Dinosaurs are animals and everyone expects them to act like so. Animals gets scared when shocks happen, thus my problem with them breaking out when they did. If they explained that they were super intelligent and could see the power on light-bulb and know that meant power on/off, then maybe it would be reasonable.

In the movie they didn't act the way you expected them to. It happened in the movie. The T-Rex was out of its pen in hours. How does the staff even corral something that big back into a cage? Once it's loose, they would have to shoot the T-Rex to safeguard lives. It's a multimillion dollar loss.

Pretty sure only two were depicted as breaking out: the T-rex and the Raptors. The Raptors were mentioned to be not only very smart but constantly testing the fences and figuring things out. The T-rex was drawn to the area where the goat and cars were and seemed to hit the fence or otherwise notice that it was unpowered. It put its arm onto it before then busting through.

Did he not know how to drive or something? Did Hammond not build any roads on the island? He was driving a pretty nice Jeep. Was Nedry just that incompetent?

security off, go drop your shit off, come back, security system on. It would have worked, but he failed to be (properly) prepared. You need to think of every possibility when you plan shit like this. He should have had a map with him, he should have tried to practice the route beforehand, he should have checked forecasts and known how bad the storm could be, and he shouldn't have gotten so nervous. If he drove a bit slower he might not have gotten himself killed. he wasn't a pro like the guys in Heat

      >he should have tried to practice the route beforehand
He did do that. He said so to the guy on the boat when he was asking him to wait. He said he did a test run and it took him a certain time and he might not be there by the time the guy said. That's why Nedry was panicking and rushing because the boat was gonna leave before he got there and frick up the whole plan

I forgot that part. So then was it just the storm that threw him off?

The storm plus the mud causing him to slide into the directional sign plus needing to winch himself out. The funny part is that it should be a direct shot to the docks from the Visitor's Center and a very easy path.

So he really just panicked. He could have taken it a bit easier and barely made it to the dock in the rain instead of killing himself. Or even made it in the same time he thought he would. A little rain never slowed a really good driver down. He just needed to stay cool. I say if he'd had a few driving beers with him he would be alive today.

In that map, the yellow line is the rail line the driverless cars were connected to. The dirt road to the port Nedry was driving isn't near the Dilophosaurus pen.

there was a pretty big thread a couple years ago discussing this map and Nedry's path. Basically it didn't make any sense from what I recall. So either the map is wrong or the director didn't follow it.
