        Anonymous

        >and yeah a big drop off with tons of bad films
It's pretty much the same for most actors of his generation, who are staged trained and older - there's not many scripts they can shine in. Mot of the crap Hollywood pump out now is a waste of acting talent - Hopkins probably made more from his MCU role than most of his movies, but they didn't need a great actor for that. In fact, they kind of messed up, Hopkins out-acted all of them in Dark World, without even trying. They probably forced him to tone it WAY down after that, because he's a completely different character after that.

Most of the blame is scripts. Hollywood doesn't make movies like Remains Of The Day, or Howard's End, or The Bounty anymore. What are they going to put him in, where he's at his best? But even in a goofy movie like Road to Welleville, or Westworld, he takes over the screen because he's so good compared to everyone else on the stage.

He had a hell of a run. It's just a shame an actor like him is completely wasted on modern Hollywood. You can say the same for a LOT of actors. "Hey, just get in on the easy MCU cash, dude!"

Weak bait. He had some stinkers later on, but most of his resume are now classics. Him and Paul Newman, you can watch pretty much anything they did before the 80's, and it'll be a great movie.

He had some stinkers before that, Woman Trouble and Ironweed were total bombs. I think he was just bored from the 80's on. He'd done it all. He had more money than he needed, and fricked everyone he wanted to frick. I think The Departed - as flawed as it is, was his goodbye to acting, he actually seemed to put effort into it.

            Anonymous

Jack definitely had some lulls in his career (mid 80's, mid 90's) that he was able to bounce back from once he started to give a shit again. As for The Departed, meh I guess he's fine in it but I would agree that's his goodbye to acting.
