Mummies are lame.
Unless you’re making a comedy, they don’t work.
I don't get it either. It wasn't as bad as everyone says. It's weird how much hate it gets/got
People aren't very good at moderating their opinion of something these days. It's either the greatest thing ever or dogshit.
It's just kind of boring. Mid, as the zoomers say.
RT is specifically designed to unmoderate opinions. If a mediocre movie has a bad ending, then it’s rotten. Of course the mummy’s ending was absolutely god awful.
>It wasn't as bad as everyone says.
No it really was. Cruise had more romantic chemistry with the fricking monster than he did with the female lead. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a comedy or not. People just like it because they found the monster highly coomable (which she was) but forget the other 95% of the movie which was TRASH.
>Cruise had more romantic chemistry with the fricking monster
I'm pretty sure that was the point. Blonde was completely unnecessary after Cruise got the map. Then the rest should be just about Cruise and ancient queen.
if it was then they completely failed at making a love triangle
I don't think there was any love. He just used her to reach his goal but then feeling bad for her when Ahmanet killed her, decided to resurrect her.
Ahmanet believes Cruise is an incarnation of her lover but Cruise is afraid of her. There's no love either. Unless you count Ahmanet saving him from plane crash and generally being obsessive stalker.
The joke is the answer to make the monsterverse work was to rotate the traits of all the monsters. Make the mummy a (female) seducer, Dracula a man cursed with involuntary savagery (turned survivor of the last voyage of the Demeter), etc etc.
Most of that hate is towards approach to set monsters cinematic universe rather than the movie itself. Movie is ok but people hated to be spoonfed universes, they prefer to be tricked into them.
>they prefer to be tricked into them.
Which is dumb. Most people don't know what they want & just go along with what the loud mouth grifters say
im disappointed that they completely wasted all that setup from the mummy when they had more stories to tell. all they had to do was to fix some errors and continue building monster universe they started.
>inb4 standalone films
yeah they are irrelevant and they flop, look at renfield or the last cruise of demeter
Last cruise flopped because bad traveling from love death robots was everything it should’ve been, but they couldn’t make that movie.
The movie is supposed to leave you wanting more, all the monsterverse movies did the opposite. The best thing about the movie is killed off and replaced by tom cruise.
A mummy movie set in modern day is kind of lame compared to the fun adventure days of the 20s/30s. Plus even Tom Cruise couldn’t make Nick Morton an engaging new character.
Awesome mix of horror and action. Also it takes itself slightly more seriously than other Mummy movies that were basically parodies of Indiana Jones, even with same generic 30s settings. Unfortunately indeeed ruined by the studio and their ambitions to use it to set up cinematic universe that didn't happen.
Also I don't like how despite more serious tone they wanted to go with, there are still shitty 'joke' moments that ruin every tense scene - for example this webm. Shame because I loved how it is focused on eerie mystical relationship between princess Ahmanet and Tom Cruise.
But still love how dark and grim it is. Feels like modern incarnation of Hammer Horrors.
Scenes where she wakes up and feeds on members of rescue team are straight from creepy horrors.
>I must sell my soul to an evil god in exchange for the power to...kill an old man and a baby while they're asleep then be immediately arrested
Hey Nick, it’s me, your best buddy Chris, and we’re the exact same age!
friendly reminder that dark universe is not as dead as they say and it is getting a theme park so in conclusion the mummy being the 1st dark universe movies will have a long lasting legacy making it a cult classic just like some people predicted this years ago
Just because they can’t admit failure doesn’t mean the attempt at a franchise isn’t dead.
It is undead and going to come back. At least as a theme park first. We will see what happens next, hopefully movies of course. And yes it is officially named Dark Universe and revolves around descendants of dr Frankenstein reviving various monsters so it's still the same concept for having monsters together, just a different medium.

The entertainment industry as a whole is dead, and that will be impossible to ignore before 2030.
Oh it's because it sucks.
>mummy makes 400mil worldwide
>oh noo its a flop quick cancell monsterverse lets do standalone films
>renfield flops at 20mil
>abigail flops at 37m
>voyage of demeter flops at 20mil
>invisible man makes 140m because people hoped it will restore darkverse but instead they completely rejected it
what kind of idiots are in charge of this?
These are B tier concepts just with AAA bydgets. They usually get poor critical reviews.
