The sequel starts with them dropping these huge tungsten rods from space on the tree from the original film.
There are two factions within the humans now one is all about that unobtainium the other basically wants to steal the 'tech' of Eywa and bring it back to earth for geoengineering on a massive scale. These are RDA and SOL in the file names. RDA seems military. SOL seems tech. Sigourney and Stephen are both creations of SOL at least their avatar's are labeled as under that schema.
This basically 'poisons' Eywa and totally destroys Neytiri's tribe
Jake and his family have to move
For this reason Jake and Senpai travel to the reefs where at the deepest point on Pandora Eywa's 'seeds' are produced - they are protected by these sentient whales that basically prevent anyone from going into this trench where they live because 1. you physically can't unless you have a submarine and obviously the navi don't have those and 2. the whales will frick you up
Britain, plays the son of Jake, he's the 'seed bearer/tulkun rider' because the only way one gets these seeds is through them
Spider and the youngest are held prisoner to try and blackmail them into giving them access to the seed - Zoe and Jamie break them out - Jamie dies here saving them all.
Final fight in A2 is an attack on the entrance to the trench - where Britain comes on the whale and basically attacks and gets harpooned at which point Eywa sends a tsunami which wipes them out.
Also a couple other things to clear up based on concept designs:
Norton WAS NOT a swap for thewlis - in fact Thewlis is playing a leader of a na'vi group who are basically human nut huggers and won't appear in TWoW at all. From what I've seen there they basically want to do the REVERSE Avatar and become human civ, they embrace technology (they're also greenish in colour and live in a euro kind of forest region from the conept art.
