movies are worse today but the way social media is set up just makes everything disposable. nothing is around long enough to ingrain itself in culture because a week later the social media hivemind has dictated that you move on to the next thing. everything is forgotten immediately now no matter how good or bad it is.
It seems like that's not even happening anymore. In the 2010s Twitter or Facebook were the epicenter of spreading viral shit but now it just seems with Tiktok everyone is in their own world.
The cultural zeitgeist of the 2020s is far more bland and unitlnteresring than the 2010s
Social media happened. It did a massive amount of damage to society. Being on the screen that long isn't healthy for you, just so you can talk to people that have become narcissistic buttholes through being insulated online too much, as social media functions almost like a mirror. It is also addictive in nature and it functions similar to a slot machine: >pull the slot machine >hope you win more than you lose, even though you lose more than you win
>scroll down social media site #20 >hope you find something more interesting as you scroll down, even though you will uncommonly find something intriguing which releases a small, albeit weak, hit of dopamine, while advertisers sell you product #21984197831978 as you scroll since all your data is being sold to data companies and corporations to make more money off of you
I respect the slot machines more since you can actually win money. You can't win with social media, in fact, you lose everytime. Exploitation of human social instincts using technology of the worst kind will never not be sinister and vile, and the fact that people cheered (and still cheer) this on just so they can communicate with their friends/spouses/parents etc is a legitimate blackpill.
We are pretty much cattle in the 21st century, and it will only get worse. I can't even imagine being born in 2024.
That's true for any era and any medium. I mean, no one even watches most movies released every year. But the big budget American stuff is generally remembered.
We're living in 1984 today
We are
>Movies released 40 years ago still hold cultural relevance to this day
>98% of Movies made today are forgotten about after one viewing
Where did all the soul go?

this is really depressing to think about
To be fair, 98% of movies made 40 years ago are basically forgotten.
No, they are not. 80's nostalgia is still a thing.

Pop culture won't move forward until Gen X dies off
I think films just aren't as relevant to culture today as they were back then
>Beverly Hills Cop 2
>1984
Yesterday belongs to the dead
Friday the 13th the final chapter was the best movie of that year
>40 years before that WW2 was still going on
ngmi
But we might be closer to WW3 than we think??
Just watched this 1984 flick, fun little time capsule of when Atari was king.
I watched this lesser known 84 film the other day
>Proto-capeshit
>proto-capeshit
>shitty sequel
>proto-capeshit
>unfunny comedy
>Goyslop commercial crap
Exactly, the birth of modern franchiseslop
And yet they are still better and more soulful than any of the blockbuster slop that they inspired
saw each of those films at least once in a theatre back in the day.
>movies that had good stories still hold up
>movies focusing on representation garner no lasting attention
KEK
Tarantino says the 1980s were one of the worst decades for cinema.
while stealing from the actual worst decade of the of the 20th, the 70s
40yrs ago plenty of kino films came out, now 40yrs later Hollywood is still trying to milk the dried-out retired breasts.
Modern Day Hollywood has no originality and Zoomers cry in a corner when they see comedy. The world is dead!
