It's a great long term investment if the movie continues to grow in popularity over time. I'm sure for every big Christmas classic out there there were a dozen other xmas movies that came out the same year but faded into obscurity
it got aired on tv every year when i was a kid (most of the 90s)
most movies like that i later found out were complete flops which i guess is why the tv stations could afford to show them but i loved them anyways and still do
This is why. They got re-runs on tv so everyone ended up seeing them and now have nostalgia for them. If it had done well in the theatres it wouldn't have the popularity it does now.
regardless of box office, this shit ran miles of reruns on disney channel
then that age group is the wine aunt/yessss women crowd now. plus the witches are so ugly it makes it easy for the drag queens/trannies to accurately impersonate them.
It released in theaters in a weird month. Just imagine watching a Halloween themed movie in fricking July. Just doesn't work. Plus, the marketing and advertising for it was bad. I don't remember any trailers or commercials for it apart from when it was premiering on the Disney channel in 1994 the following year.
chuds really see this movie and all u can think about is lgbt shit and ur hatred for women ur age? dam imagine constantly living in that hell
i'm prescribing you chuds with 1. touch grass 2. get some pussy
It has obligatory brown people and the magic store owner is a flamboyant black gay but that's about it. It's mostly just boring and bad. Strong independent black witch (not evil) ending though.
Surprisingly competent. Humor is in line with the first but they came up with enough new jokes and most importantly didn't try to make the witches the good guys just because they're popular now. In the wake of stuff like Maleficent and Cruella I was worried about them making it another big retcon but the actresses were clearly having too much fun being the antagonists to let that happen. >tl;dr if you like the first you'll like the second
>>tl;dr if you like the first you'll like the second
False. The original had a compelling cast outside of the witches which is what held the whole thing together. Everyone besides the witches and the flashback puritans was awful in this one and everything even might have been funny was made worse for it. It feels like the sisters were transplanted directly from the first movie into a soulless cash grab sequel made 30 years later under the watchful eyes of a board of executives.
Pros >At points in the movie, the actresses looked like they were just having a lot of fun and you could tell
Cons >Who the frick even asked for this? >Just a complete retread of the first movie. Lot of the same jokes, same elements, etc. >Movie thinks for some reason that it should be a parody, like it was really just making fun of the first movie that, while lighthearted, was mostly played straight and was goofy as an unintended side-effect of the characterization. This movie is just out to take the piss, but in a boring way. >You can tell it was phoned in because they couldn't keep anything straight. One second, the witches are shocked about sliding doors. The next, one of them is saying the word "spitballing," a modern corporate term. >Also the fact that they got the original three witches. They are HEAVILY caked in makeup from being old, especially the one that is near 70. Kind of feels awful to parade these old women around and make them jump about for this nonsense. >Everything else around the movie is insanely underwhelming and just boring >Main two characters are uninteresting wiccans, and their big huge plotline about losing touch with one of their friends is completely undersold, and then wrapped up in a single scene with ONE conversation that is summarized on multiple sides "Oh I didn't know you were mad about that. Why didn't you say anything?" Even the dumb "bully" white kid was straight up "Yeah I was just making conversation," which he was, but is made out to be a "villain" for his entry scenes >The big plot twist of the movie is that the main girl is a witch, and gets video game lightning powers to fight off the witches >The witches turn out to be just "misunderstood" all along and not REALLY evil, just vengeful. Made even more hypocritical by the fact that this happens suddenly at the end, after the witches just tried to murder a bunch of people. >Encourages girls into witchcraft.
It is pretty boring, but not too offensively bad. It felt like two movies were made and they stapled the scripts together somehow. I don't think it was good, just okay. The scene where they were trying makeup products was kind of fun. I forgot the rest of the movie.
I watched this shit all the time growing. It was THE kids Halloween movie in the 90's and early 00's. 80's kids had Monster Squad, my generation had Hocus Pocus.
>kids grow up watching cheap movie
I wouldn't call it a cheap movie. They built an entire street houses and all inside of a studio building. That shit ain't cheap.
This movie single handedly gave me a domme fetish, when they're using their witch magic telekinesis and the main dude is like bound by their power and struggling - also the love interest girl in this movie was so hot and even the little girl was cute (relax I was her age when I saw this movie), movie was very sexually charged
I watched it during the 90s and even then my friends and I would independently watch it and next day kinda be like >Hey did you see Hocus Pocus was on? >Yeah dude, I missed the first 10 minutes but when I saw it was on I had to finish it
This worked for a few different holiday movies. Christmas ones were hit or miss, and admitting you like some of the Disney Channel original movies would be a bit cringe depending on which you chose.
But overall kids loved Hocus Pocus. It was big with the girls too, especially the ones that'd later get into Burton/Depp/mallgoth/scene kid stuff. Got quite a few valentines in my paper bag later in the year thanks to being a big Hocus Pocus/Halloween nerd in earshot of girls.
Holiday movies are a good investment because they will become relevant again every year and people will watch them out of nostalgia.
It's a great long term investment if the movie continues to grow in popularity over time. I'm sure for every big Christmas classic out there there were a dozen other xmas movies that came out the same year but faded into obscurity
Not really, most are shit that get forgotten about
But only if they lean into the holiday and not be just another vehicle for political shit.

>zoomer discovers cult movies
People grew up with it. Took me 0.000001 seconds to think of that.
Because it was the only thing on. If Spongebob or DBZ was airing instead or at the same time no one would still remember it.
regardless of box office, this shit ran miles of reruns on disney channel
then that age group is the wine aunt/yessss women crowd now. plus the witches are so ugly it makes it easy for the drag queens/trannies to accurately impersonate them.
white women in their 30s fricking LOVE this movie
Came here to say this, it's kitsch for wine drinking cat mom millenial/younger Gen X women.
Yeah this. For some reason; Disney films, especially the late 90s and early 2000s ones, are popular with LGBTBBBQ people.
They played it multiple times a day in the weeks leading up to Halloween on the Disney channel. What did you think was going to happen?
It's popular because aging millennial women are the easiest demographic to market nostalgia to.
It released in theaters in a weird month. Just imagine watching a Halloween themed movie in fricking July. Just doesn't work. Plus, the marketing and advertising for it was bad. No. I like this movie and hate women of all ages.
Satanic pedo movie
Honestly I don’t have a clue, this is tv movie garbage
Anon why are you still trying to convince others [or yourself] that this was some kind of unknown thing.
What is your malfunction
Is 2 any good? How woke is it?
One of the kids is obviously gay. That's pretty much it.
I don't know what meme you're trying to make
It has obligatory brown people and the magic store owner is a flamboyant black gay but that's about it. It's mostly just boring and bad. Strong independent black witch (not evil) ending though.
Frick you, that black guy was the only funny part of the movie
Yes but when gaytalking is the funniest thing in your comedy you have a very serious problem.

Final Grade: D-

I didn't watch it in theaters but did see it when I was a child in the 90s and loved it. Still love it.
was super comfy. young enough didnt think sjp looked that bad at the time
women and homosexualS keep expanding
>movie is a flop
>rights are cheap
>spam the cheap movie on TV
>kids grow up watching cheap movie
>movie becomes popular
Many such cases
>kids grow up watching cheap movie
I wouldn't call it a cheap movie. They built an entire street houses and all inside of a studio building. That shit ain't cheap.
It's quite cheap actually.
Are you talking about
or production value because there's a difference
It's cheap anon.
It was cheap for the networks to get the rights to show the movie.
What are some other cases?
It's a Wonderful Life
Idiocracy
The Iron Giant
Matilda
and if we count TV shows both Futurama and Family Guy
This movie single handedly gave me a domme fetish, when they're using their witch magic telekinesis and the main dude is like bound by their power and struggling - also the love interest girl in this movie was so hot and even the little girl was cute (relax I was her age when I saw this movie), movie was very sexually charged
