but not the actual Joker character from the comics which was only played by Nicholson and Romero
Ledger and Phoenix played a totally different character with the same name and a vague resemblance. the characterization was way off in those movies. that's NOT the Joker.
This. Nicholson was the best one. For frick's sake, can these capeshit movies grow the frick up and stop trying to be serious? I'd take something this based any day over Nolanslop.
Nicholson played Jack Napier, who is not the Joker, who's real name is unknown. Ledger at least played a character with no known name and origin. From the 80s onwards, Joker is regarded as a criminally insane psychopath and an inmate at Arkham Asylum. Any reference to Ledger's Joker though being one of the escapees from Arkham never makes it into the final cut. Phoenix's Joker has a name and origin that are revealed to be not true, but his adopted mother lying that she is his biological parent, which still does mean his real name and origin are unknown, and therefore he abides closest to the post-80s characterisation of Joker. The only thing missing is all the elements that caused chemical exposure and changed his complexion, which is now make-up.
Arguably, there is no complete adaptation of Joker, which is said to be part of Joker's self-image: there is no consistent personality or psychological diagnosis. Like Batman, he wants to be an idea that people can't get rid of, but is even more successful at keeping his past a secret.
>another 89 fanboy trying to do epic schooling on what he thinks is the real joker
it’s not a good movie. i know you grew up watching it and that was all you had at the time but it’s a shitty adaptation that has nothing to do with the source material. jack never played the joker. he was just a fat mobster.
I don't know why you're saying this so condescendingly- Batman is nearly 100 years old. The Joker is arguably one of the most iconic characters in the history of American literature at this point. You get he's not like Bozo the clown, right?
>this was probably inspired by the mask
Lol no, the Joker predates the mask by decades and Nicholson's version was lifted straight from the comic pages. Early mask comics were nothing like the movie version either.
they were pretty good. its just weird they made it a superhero related movie instead of its own thing. its like "the master", but if you made the master some mcu bullshit
Feels very much like somebody's cynical attempt to get their gritty movie made by tacking on some superhero shit to it. You could remove all references to Batman shit and Joker would still be an excellent, internally consistent film.
i can sorta get the thinking, but you cant make a sequel to it. i can believe it as being an alternate take on the joker existing, but it dies really early. thats sorta neat. but it also could of just been a movie, with none of that shit and it would of worked, maybe better.
what a joke of an award
unironically
always was
frick it
time for an actress

It's almost as if your REAL Joker is shit and their interpretations are better
The Joker is not even a consistent character in the comics anyway.

Pagliacci
>literature
should have been 3
100% the mask was inspired by this.
this was probably inspired by the mask. The mask is also a comic book and the MC has cartoon god powers like bugs bunny

still the best joker. don't @me. him pulling that gun out of his pants is one of the most kino shots in any capeshit movie.
was supposed to be patrick stewart befor arnie got casted. the character of freeze is very poetic and damaged. pstu would have killed it.
Who else do you think should’ve won? Joaquin?
Finally a Joker that is actually funny
>tfw play joker irl everyday of my life and still haven't gotten recognition for it
In chaotic times our heroes are chaotic too.
Could any actor do a dramatic take on Mr Freeze justice?
which proves that batman/bruce wayne is a VERY hard character to get right
i'm convinced now that playing the joker is an actor jumping the shark
Only really applied to Leto
Yet no actor has won an oscar for playing the Jogger (George Floyd) yet
How many Oscars did these movies win?
New York Times got Pulitzers for reporting on Trump Russia collusion
> be 50 y/o mentally ill chudcel
> still have cute negresses thirsting over you
it's not fair ;-;
Well, he can be an interesting character. Also, nerds have money, so we must cater to them now.

joker is like Shakespearean kino so it makes sense
People just love the Joker, because the Joker is right, and Batman is a gaylord upholding the status quo.
They merely played The Joker
They didn't live it
