Yes, the final film gives context to the Rebuilds as a whole and are worth watching if you're a fan of the original series, but you may come out of it not liking it as much as the original NGR + EOE because the Rebuilds don't quite have as much to say as those. It's message and ending still resonated with me and left me with the largest feeling of catharsis I think I've ever felt and I'm a major Asukagay so I'm being relatively objective here.
Honestly, no. They probably hit harder if you're obsessed with it but if you just watched NGE and liked it then the Rebuilds aren't gonna do much for you.
>*car crashes your beloved series so unbelievably fricking hard that you stop asking him about it, ensuring there will never be fan demand for more content and that he is free to go off and make his passion project remakes of his childhood shows*
He fricking won. He BTFO’d otakus eternally and there’s nothing you can do. He spat all over the waifus of millions and made COUNTLESS nerds drop their waifu in disgust and rage.
>>*car crashes your beloved series so unbelievably fricking hard that you stop asking him about it, ensuring there will never be fan demand for more content
Was there ever a demand for more content?
I already accepted Rebuild would be a complete waste of time after 3.0 was so irredeemably terrible but 3.0+1.0 makes me wonder if they genuinely ever had any idea of what they wanted to achieve with the rebuilds.
As a whole the rebuilds kind of mirror the mess that the sequel Star Wars trilogy became only more annoying since it 15 FRICKING YEARS.
1.0 & 2.0 = The Force Awakens
3.0 = The Last Jedi
1.0+3.0 = The Rise of Skywalker.
It was obvious with the first movie that the whole thing was just a moron milking machine. The original movies were for morons too, any real creative input ended with episode 26. After that, Anno became disillusioned with his shit eating fans and just came back occasionally to shit on them some more.

>I-is that new instalments in a franchise! I-IT'S like star wars. They ruined my childhood toy franchise remember?! Sequels bad!
Embarrassing. It's embarrassing because the only thing you can compare it to is one of the most popular movie franchise is us and your comparison is based on your bitterness at that and implying everyone is like that.
>comparing recent movie series of a franchise that's extremely popular in japan to a recent series of movies of a franchise that's extremely popular in the usa is embarrassing
what?
You going through the archives to bring up a thread made by a completely different anon is supposed to prove you aren't obsessed... how?
Imagine being filtered by the biggest work of Brechtian art since Dogville. Imagine your only takeaway centred around which sexual relationship Shinji should have ended up in. Imagine being that much of a mouth-breathing brainlet. Educate yourselves.
I'm convinced that the "EVA is 2DEEP4U" memes are in fact true. People went into the Rebuilds with impossibly high expectations and ultimately disappointed themselves, then blamed Anno for it. I thought they were a very mature way to end the series (or, at least, Anno's direct involvement in them), even though I concede that they don't have as much to say as the original TV series and EOE.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it gave much needed context to the Rebuilds as a whole. The entire 30 minutes was Anno's final therapy session mixed with metacatharsis and I truly felt closure with this series. It certainly wasn't perfect and does rely too heavily on heat came before, but it re-contextualizes even those and makes the whole greater than the sum of Rebuilds' parts, even though 3.33 was retroactively made much better after 3.0+1.0 released. I know this is an impossibility given how greedy studios are (and the implication that the meta, Gnostic anti-universe that allows manifestation of pure thought is), but I do think it ended perfectly and is the definitive ending to the series no matter what comes after.
It wasn't meant to have the same lasting appeal or grandeur as EoE. Based on the behind the scenes stuff it seems Anno had no idea what to do with it story-wise and mostly curated ideas coming from his trainees which is why it feels like a weird laborious fan homage. It was mostly a vehicle for Anno and team to experiment with animation techiques using Evangelion as a template.
>Anno is a hack. He admitted it himself that he didn't actually read the bible and only used Bible names because it "sounded cool". Swear to God. >Lmao@ your life >>Anon makes an image >>this mutant never questions the information conveyed >>and regardless, he would take Anno's word for anything >What a moronic c**t hahahahaha
I'm neutral on 1.0
Liked 2.0
Appreciated 3.0 but could understand why it was disliked, I feel like the time jump was a weird choice though.
But 4.0 was incredible.
The rebuilds are literally rebuilding Eva, I don't mean that as a 2deep4u statement I mean that in the sense that EoE is this violent, destructive, explosive film that destroy Evangelion in totality that it makes more sense that there shouldn't be a follow up, but the Rebuilds came along and picked up the pieces. You do not get the pure cinematic anger that EoE was in the rebuilds, you get an older Anno re-exploring plot points and themes from the original show and reaching a similar but matured conclusion. That's not to say EoE is immature, but that the Rebuilds rather than succumbing to Shinji's anger try to move on and grow from it. You do have to be willing to engage 4.0 on a meta and thematic level however which is where I think it loose people, however if you're willingly to meet it on those terms it's an extremely satisfying film to watch as a companion piece to EoE.
What really happened is Anno came back and passionlessly recycled themes from the original because he wanted to make money and knew that morons like you would eat it up.
>recycled themes
He reexplored ideas but reached a different ending, what else do you want? Passionlessly is a weird accusation to make too given the 3.0+1.0 doco has footage of 1998 Anno talking about what will become the rebuilds.
My problem with 3.0+1.0 was that its all metanarrative and no actual story with well fleshed out characters. Because none of the rebuilds that proceeded it gave it a good basis to conclude the story on or developed the character anywhere near as well as NGE, all it can rely on is its meta elements and all the pseuds sucked Anno's dick because of it.
That's honestly a completely fair point anon, the Rebuilds do not work at all without watching the original series+EoE. That being said what that allows for is the interesting metacommentary rather than ignoring the original series, which I preferred personally.
>different ending
A bland ending that repeats the point of eoe for any idiots that didn’t get it the first time. Shinji running off smiling with a literal who character is just fanservice for the morons that need it spelled out for them that he can be happy. >3.0+1.0 doco has footage of 1998 Anno talking about what will become the rebuilds.
And then he proceeded to make 4 shit movies filled with bad cgi, the directorial flair of cctv cameras, and poorly developed characters. I don’t care what he said in a recording before the movies, the movies speak for themselves.
>the Rebuilds do not work at all without watching the original series+EoE
True. They work more as a companion piece to the original series, rather than its own thing that it was pitched as supposedly being from its conception.
>the 3.0+1.0 doco has footage of 1998 Anno talking about what will become the rebuilds
And where can I watch this doco? Sounds like you are assuming everyone has seen all the behind-the-scenes material there is - which is hardly ever the case - and regardless a movie should stand on its own, and not need a commentary track to explain it to viewers.
Anyway. I'm going to be frank and say that 3.0+1.0 disappointed me. The movie is just so long and boring. And I can't help but to think, that if the movies didn't get delayed like they did, we would have gotten a more cohesive, and even happier trilogy/whatever.
What I most dislike is how Asuka never got her chance to shine, despite CLEARLY being the main character. In 3.0 she's seen rescueing Shinji - who does frick all, by the way - and then we just learn that she has given up on life, love and everything - and just mopes around naked. It makes zero sense to end her story there.
>>*car crashes your beloved series so unbelievably fricking hard that you stop asking him about it, ensuring there will never be fan demand for more content
Was there ever a demand for more content?
>Was there ever a demand for more content?
I'd say there definitely is NOW! They need to go back to the beginning and do it right - the fourth time!
>Sounds like you are assuming everyone has seen all the behind-the-scenes material there is
That's what Anno expects. And he expects you to have read the manga and played the games. He thinks everyone that watched the Rebuilds were obsessive fans.
Not assuming everyone has seen it, was just noting the footage for refuting previous anons stance that Anno was "passionlessly" working through the rebuilds. The doco's up on Amazon prime, it was released alongside 3.0+1.0.
My problem with 3.0+1.0 was that its all metanarrative and no actual story with well fleshed out characters. Because none of the rebuilds that proceeded it gave it a good basis to conclude the story on or developed the character anywhere near as well as NGE, all it can rely on is its meta elements and all the pseuds sucked Anno's dick because of it.
are you really supposed to watch 30 whatever seasons of this schlock just so you can watch "the pinnacle of anime" End of Evangelion? Because frankly watching the opening be some kid jerking off on his sick friend gives me big doubts
first part of the film was good but then the rest was garbage. the Shinji versus his dad fight was embracingly bad, even from animation standpoint. Even when the studio had their backs to the wall, no budget, they still had better animation. The reverse dark dimension was also a reach to grasp past glory.
I finally watched it the other day thinking it was going to be huge clusterfrick but it was just emotionally insipid. Gendo's monologue was good and maybe the first hour of the movie but everything else was just ok to bad.
Movie sucks balls
Meta commentary and any resolution you have with the series be damned. None of that shit resonates for me when the base of the films story, characters, motivations, set pieces etc ate all garbage and incomprehensible. Not to mention the ass looking, obviously out of place cgi
I watched the rebuilds before watching the original series and EoE and, apart from 1 and 2, 3 and 4 are shit while they elevated my first viewing of the TV shows and EoE because it was soo much better!!!FACT!!!
>forgotten
motherfricker this movie was dead on arrival. sure some people were hyped but literally everyone else had already moved on with their lives because anno was dragging his feet for over a decade on this movies. And even those who saw it just saw it to check it off their mental box of completion. its had been like NINE years since the third one.
Wrong
best and blessed
you have to be 18 to post here
I have been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old and never once have I taken them off to get a better look at something.
Are you an imbecile?
i never watched anything after the first movie are they worth watching?
Naw it sucks watch Boruto
Yes, the final film gives context to the Rebuilds as a whole and are worth watching if you're a fan of the original series, but you may come out of it not liking it as much as the original NGR + EOE because the Rebuilds don't quite have as much to say as those. They are bad to the point they hurt your appreciation of the original series
Rei>Mari>Hikari>Misato>Ritsuko>everone else
fact: nge was never good to begin with
This is not correct.
Original series and End of Evangelion are great.
The first 2 rebuild movies are good
I'm starting to believe that, honestly

EoE was kino, putting it in the same group as the rebuilds is moronic.
EoE was a bland action romp for invalids who didn't get the point of the show.
don't disagree but it had cool drawings and nice music
ah yes, End of Evangelion, truly what a bland generic action movie that was.
How come American can never talk about anything without comparing them with star wars. Getting second hand embarrassment reading this.
not even american but ok just let them live in your head rent-free
>Not American
>Still obsessed with star wars so that letting it live rent free.
That's somehow worse.

The movie was literally made in a way to kill evangelion and stop every discuss. So it succeeded.
Imagine being filtered by the biggest work of Brechtian art since Dogville. Imagine your only takeaway centred around which sexual relationship Shinji should have ended up in. Imagine being that much of a mouth-breathing brainlet. Educate yourselves.

Anno is a hack. He admitted it himself that he didn't actually read the bible and only used Bible names because it "sounded cool". Swear to God.
Absolutely nothing wrong with doing that.
You act as if 99% of directors/writers don't do the same.

More people than just anno worked on evangelion.
As it should be. It was trash and Anno should just stick to Godzilla/Ultraman or whatever shit he's doing now.

>30 seasons
I don't get why you morons don’t just google how many episodes are in nge before saying shit like this.
bruh, there is literally only 26 20 min episodes before you arrive at EOE. Did you think NGE was like One Piece or something?
>only 26 eps bro
Yes.
Yeah, you should totally watch something like the Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad instead.
Anno told people to stop watching anime and find a real girlfriend. Screw you Anno, I ain't doing that.
It's kino and a perfect ending to all of Evangelion.
>Even in the rebuild Misato dies miserable
That's what she gets for fricking that b***h ass Kaji.
In my headcanon, it isn't Mari that takes Shinji's hand to run off to a happy life together, it's Misato
