I only read the first book and watched a few episodes, but they got the vibe wrong, added a bunch of shit no one asked for, and the casting was another predictable eyeroll. Dornick isn't even an important character, is he? Does he come back in later novels? That's another thing. They took so many liberties with the story that I can't tell if they are skipping to later books / rolling them all into one story, or just scrambling the first book into something I cannot recognize.

It was pretty decent but forgettable. It's basically all exposition and set-up. Season 2 should be kino though.
The reason it failed and it will continue to fail is easy: the writer of this show fricking despises Asimov, Foundation and everything it stands for. Also you can't have a show tackling the decay of civilization in this day and age, people would start making scarily accurate parallels.
